One of the best gardens and wonderful episodes this season. All the native plants are gorgeous. The homeowners are inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

This is my favorite episode yet! She has multiple garden "rooms" and almost all are native plants, full of life and giving sustenance to the creatures there. Also, Rita Venable being the host was a treat! I LOVE her butterfly book. I just looked at it yesterday to check that I correctly identified a monarch! Sure enough, it was. 😄 I love this show. So well done.

Ms. Venable are you related to Dr. Larry Venable the plant ecologist at the University of Arizona?

Btw I’m getting your butterfly book. I used to raise butterflies, mostly giant swallowtails. They would larvae on the citrus trees where I grew up in AZ. Dr. Bruce Walsh, author of the butterflies of southeastern Az book, got me started. He was my genetics professor. I live by Peeler Park in Madison, TN now. I used to live by Julie Berbiglia (another volunteer garden host) for quite a while by Shelby Park. She’s a hoot. Thanks for your episodes! They’re great!

I asked Linda Robertson (homeowner) about this. She said that the sedge had not been keyed out for identification, but a botanist she knew thought it was possibly James' sedge (Carex jamesii).

I didn’t see the species and or cultivar name of the Phlox mentioned. Could I get an 🆔 on it?
@juniperhairstreak Жыл бұрын
Yes, David, there were 3 species of phlox: Downy (Phlox pilosa) and glade (Phlox bifida) were in the dry, rocky area. Wild blue (Phlox divaricata) 'Blue Moon' was in the area with the big rocks.
