I am a classically trained pianist, and I have to say. This is kind of good, but they missed a massive point, and that is that playing notes is more than just pressing keys. There is phrasing, dynamics, articulation, technique, etc. For instance, you need to move from the knuckle where the palm meets the fingers, and then keep the rest of the finger strong. No app can teach that, I’m sorry. This might be great for some people, but if you want to become good or even great, get a private teacher, it’s worth it and so much more.

I don’t know how a piano works. I’m a guitarist. I can play many songs but I think weeks is not enough. In my opinion if you are able to play classical pieces fluently that determines your level. As every instrument player knows classical pieces are one of the most challenging pieces to master. Please don’t get me wrong I’m just sharing my thoughts with you. And I recommend you to take classes for classical pieces. I hope you get better and better. I wish you luck

@The_Rob_D
@The_Rob_D 2 жыл бұрын
@@mingi-vu9xn A teacher can’t teach you emotion either. The point of stuff like simply piano is to teach the basics. You shouldn’t make assumptions based solely on your experiences and the experiences of those who who have the exact same opinion. All that does is breed ignorance. There are literally millions of absolutely amazing musicians all over the world who have never had a single lesson. So your entire argument is moot.
@The_Rob_D
@The_Rob_D 2 жыл бұрын
@@mingi-vu9xn Except you aren’t “speaking facts,” you’re speaking opinion. And by stating that someone MUST learn from a teacher in order to be able to play with emotion is most definitely elitism as you’re stating that one must learn the way you do in order for them to succeed the way you portray. Like I said before, not everyone learns the same. I’m not dogging on anyone for having a teacher, not at all. But to say one can’t do something without one is just ignorant. I mean no offense btw nor am I calling you ignorant. Just saying that you claim is a bit ignorant for the simple fact that your mother is a piano teacher, so you probably never had the opportunity to “figure it out yourself” like thousands of others.

But what's bad about SimplyPiano is that it doesn't teach the piano player the important things like not moving their hands while playing. It's only the fingers that are moving. If your fingers bounce when doing staccatos, you can't play very fast pieces like Rondo Alla Turca.

I just wish when learning songs you could segment a particular portion of the song instead of going back to the beginning. i think simply piano is good to kickstart a piano experience and teach someone how to play, but after a little bit i do not believe it should be used any more than just a few basics to actually learn the piano. it should be taught by a trained teacher. simply piano would however be extremely useful for sharpening sight-reading skills, although there may be better options out there for sight reading. in the end simply piano is a great introductory to the world of piano and can be used in that way for a good amount of time, but at some point that kid or adult has gotta learn proper technique with someone and not through a screen. not everyone may need a teacher and simply piano might truly be the best thing for you, but i’d say most need a teacher

I'm wondering if you have heard of the latter two, and if you would do a review on both of them, or if you have any comments regarding them? I’ve been taking in person lessons with physical sheet music for about 2 or 3 years now, and I feel like yes this is a good beginner program if you are not able to afford in person lessons or are looking to play casually, but if you really want to learn I don’t recommend. It dosent really show you proper fingering and things such a pedal, codas, ties, etc. I would recommend trying it if you would like to get a small amount of experience but please try and learn from someone who’s actually played piano.

@linstarflight7344

As someone who’s been playing piano for 7 years with a professional teacher (and has also tried this app for quite a while before), I really wouldn’t recommend it. To non-musicians, this sounds like a shortcut that is nice and sweet and works well, but it’s not. Here’s why: 1. It doesn’t provide enough information and instructions on posture/hand positions. Yes, these are the boring beginner things but they’re very important. Building up a bad posture habit when playing a instrument will become a big problem when you get into more advanced and technical stuff. One of the most common mistakes I see starter pianists make is keeping their fingers straight and tight while playing. Playing that way will greatly affect the agility and comfort of your fingers, and they likely won’t be able to keep up with articulation and other fast moving pieces later on. 2. They teach you the notes, SOME of the symbols in music, and nothing else. When I tried simply piano and as I was skimming through all the lessons, I immediately noticed how they are missing a bunch of essential stuff such as dynamic markings, tempo markings, sharps, flats, slurs, staccato, key changes, phrasing, rit, codas, and etc. These are all very important things to know and understand because they are basically what shapes the music. If you play without any of the things listed above, the music you’re making will sound boring with no changes and no emotions. Simply piano can’t teach you that because the app can’t listen to the amount of sound you’re making and determine whether that’s considered loud or soft, because it’s different in every piece/song and changes frequently depending on the mood of whatever you’re playing. (Similar goes for the others) 3. It doesn’t teach you much about reading sheet music on your own. In simply piano, it kind of just scrolls the music for you and you just play the notes as it comes. That means you need to keep the tempo, the evenness, the rhythm, and phrasing, coordinating left hand to right hand with the correct timing, balancing hands so that the melodic line stands out, and etc. I have a friend whose been using simply piano for the past year or so, and last time I was at her house watching her play off of actual sheet music, her rhythm was a mess, there were no dynamics, no melody line over the harmonies. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it. Getting a teacher would help set your kid on the right path. Do watch out for bad teachers tho, they can be pretty time and money wasting. But yes, most are good and is in a considerable price range per lesson. (Edit: I apologize for any grammatical mistakes. It’s 12:30 am in the midnight and my brain’s not working very well😅)

I tried Flowkey and Simply Piano. Simply Piano seems to be a lot better at teaching how to read the Treble and Bass Clef It is really slow at expanding your note range. That feels… good to me. I played guitar for a long time and instantly jumped into soloing and lost SO many fundamentals. As an example, I can play Malmsteen songs but I can’t do a single “campfire” song with chord changes. On piano im only up to Essentials 2, playing through all the songs but so far… seems worth it

DISCLAIMER: I don't want this to offend anybody, I'm just saying my honest opinion. I guess its pretty okay, but the problem about it is that there's nothing to tell you about your hand posture, new players from ads I see usually have their hand hanging down. Anything thing is the touch-- or how the music is played. With simply piano it just cares about right or wrong notes, but there's still a lot more for it to sound good other than solid notes. An easy piece with fingers lifted high and a not dropped wrist would sound better than a medium piece with no feeling into it. One last thing, finger exercise. This is very important in making your fingers fast for harder pieces and more fluent and slower ones. Simply piano doesn't have it, which could tire the hand or arm, if they use their arm to help them, that is wrong. So, I would prefer a piano teacher to simply piano any time.
@MIsaac-ds5xl
@MIsaac-ds5xl 3 жыл бұрын
I have used simply piano and i can tell you A) actually they do teach you about hand position. Basically at the beginning of every courses theres a "reminder section" where they would remind you, all the older lessons they've teach you especially hand position where they would show videos of how to postion your hands, shoulder and back also reminding to keep your hands relaxed B) in the app you cannot progress at all unless you are able to beat the challenges in the said section while on top of that there is a 5 min practice mode where everyday they would give you different level or type of exercises to help you get better either by sight reading or finger independence
