One good thing about Simply Piano is it provides a fuck tonne of sheet music to learn from which basically means it is serving two purposes.

Great video with some useful apps mentioned. With respect to music learning apps I've been enjoying Flowkey. In particular the function that enables you to isolate a particular section of the music paired with the wait function so you can really get a small section right before moving the selection along to the next part. Getting it right also includes showing you which fingers to use as well as obviously the actual notes.

Firstly, I love your videos and all the advice! I started on a plastic keyboard in SEP 2023 with an app called "playground sessions" and I have to say I love the App wholeheartedly! After playing for a few months I came across a lot of your videos and they really help me out / keep me interested. Took your advice and upgraded to a Yamaha P-225 and got myself a teacher and started taking lessons from around March. My playing has improved tremendously! I still use the App everyday and I still take lessons, but my biggest take away's from my lessons are - My teacher ,being an accomplished pianist, sees/hears things I am doing wrong that I was completely unaware of. Such as - I have an involuntary Pinky curl playing scales in my Left hand that I am making a lot of progress getting rid of. Never took notice before he pointed it out when I said I was having difficulty playing Em Scale quickly. That's something an App cannot do! Thanks for all the Videos and I look forward to the next one!

I found that piano teachers can be very judgemental about your playing. They dont encourage you to follow your dream of becoming a professional musician. They like to crush your hopes and dreams.

on the apps section, I have used simply piano before, but I have severals critiscisims to it, I do however really like playground sessions, the selection of great sheet music and the tools to learn it are great, as well as accompaniment if you are into that, endded up getting a lifetime subscription myself and I really like it, the advanced type of music feels really good and compleat, even though advanced actually means "begginer advanced" I would say from a broad piano skill standpoint, still sounds great

I think Simply Piano etc. does a great job of teaching you the basics and getting you motivated for playing/practicing. Piano teachers are more valuable but also fucking expensive
@mohammadnouritani4 ай бұрын
Expensive and unnecessary at first just to use the piano and get started which would take days and days I feel that I am saving money to learn basics then maybe later after I know how to read play put my fingers coordination between left and right maybe I will use an instructor to fix my technique

open your piano. the best thing i ever did on a real piano is taking of the front lid to se the HAMMERS and their distances in a chord. the keyboard can be distracting but the hammers are clear halftonesteps. just like on a guitar.

I have Yousician, its was an offer from my sister to my daughter to play ukulele, and i was in love with it because it felt like a game to me...spent hours playing. I saw that it had piano and commented to my sister how i would love to play piano, one dream of mine since being a kid. She offered me a Yamaha and use Yousician to play. But i really can tell it's more dificult to play piano then ukulele. But its good app and relaxing one because u can play simple musics since the beginning

Lol a metronome does nothing for me. I can't stay on time even with full notes, nevermind shorter ones. I need something that actually evaluates MY timing, because I cannot hear it.
@KenMerrell8 ай бұрын
I'm not sure that a metronome is all you need for learning rhythm. Yes, a metronome will help you to learn how to play in time, but it doesn't help you identify and follow rhythm notation. Is there a good rhythm app that helps with note durations, where the beat falls, polyrhythms, swung notes, rhythmic patterns like claves and shuffles, time signatures, dotted notes, slurs, beams, etc.?

Simply piano
@terracaramelbear8 күн бұрын
I've tried Simply Piano as a confirmed musician and OMG, this is bad. The interface is ok, but the pieces and the choices of arrangements are so poor and unmusical. I think it creates confusion between what a student can read and what he ears. That being said, I really think it's no good for the ones who'd like to be able to read sheet music properly.
@Kaleidoveritas14 күн бұрын
11:28 - Not to diss teachers, because they're awesome when you find one that you like, but most problems can be grouped and solved together if anyone actually discussed the issues and how they fixed them. I am great with my ears but I suck at reading. Someone here can probably reply with an answer or two about how to fix that. If all a teacher will ask me to do is "read sheet music" then there's not a lot of point in paying for their time is there? This silly notion that one cannot undergo a discipline as expressive and personal as learning an instrument, on their own, without a teacher, is just fucking stupid. Most of those practices were probably already covered here and if there are methods for practice that make sense for everyone to try, then it's up to the community to teach that information for a variety of styles and genres in a way that's accessible to everyone.
