@jessicaclakley36914 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m with you on that. As an American lesbian, I always found it amusing and not offensive in the slightest. However, I genuinely appreciate Cristine recognizing that “coming out” as holosexual could be seen as making light or trivializing the tensions many LGBTQ individuals feel during that process. Now that is/was never her intention but I appreciate her for acknowledging that all the same.

I also felt that as a gay woman. I feel that "coming out" tends to be something you should fear, and fear the reaction of others, and making light of it helps it to be more of an everyday thing. I realize that not everyone feels this way, and I had negativr reactions to my coming out, so I know it aint always easy. I just wish that someday there wouldnt be a need to come out and everyone could just love whoever they want and be who they are without needing to express it to the world.

It’s a city with 2-3 universities and 1-2 colleges (depending if you count private schools or not) so a lot of people are fairly educated. And although it’s a political city, even our right wing party, the conservatives, have agreed (albeit not that long ago) that people should have the right to marry the same sex so it’s not even really a political issue anymore. Micro aggressions towards the LGBTQ+ community are still an issue though. I don’t think there’s too many people that are necessarily “homophobic” but still people that lack some understanding.

AGREED!! Also not everyone “needs” to have the same opinions & values. As long as it’s not endangering/harming anyone or violating the rights of others NO ONE should care what someone else is doing in their life..PERIOD! Discriminating against someone solely based on their physical appearance, culture, sexual orientation, etc that they have ZERO control is just ignorant/stupid/cruel! Even if someone doesn’t care about the feelings of others one would THINK that such discriminatory people would choose to NOT garner so much hate...as hate makes you miserable. So it just doesn’t make any sense!🤨🤨 Just like people constantly watching & commenting videos by people they hate on KZbin. Do people ACTUALLY ENJOY being angry & full of hatred?!?

When I was 16 I became pregnant and my family turned me out and turned their backs on me. I was living in a car and just not in a good situation to raise a baby so I made the insanely difficult choice to put him up for adoption. Well, a few days ago SHE finally found me!!!! I couldn’t find her because I was searching for her birth name which of course was too much of a boy name and didn’t fit her now. She is beautiful!!!! I’ve always been an ally to the LGBT community but now I’m a proud mom of a trans girl. Unfortunately her parents haven’t been very understanding but she’s glad to know I’m in her corner. Edit: Thank you everyone for your wonderfully kind words! I'm on cloud nine right now to have her back in my life!

Yes! I barely want to go on the internet except to stream movies or tv shows because all I see is hateful/hurtful comments everywhere. It's really messed with my mental health and I just feel like there needs to be more compassion and thinking on the part of everyone. Like, yes this person could be wrong and hurtful, but that doesn't mean it's ok to be hurtful back. Educating someone who's ignorant is really important, but you also might need to do it many times for it to get through to them. Also, canceling someone isn't going to help. We should be having a respectful conversation with them to try to educate and understand where they're coming from as well. With only cancelling someone, we aren't able to do that because it's basically shutting them up. My whole undergrad degree was in Sociology and it was basically just being respectful, but trying to educate and learn about others and their experiences.

Ok we we aren’t gonna talk about how She’s leaking a nail tool kit 🤭 she had a cuticle pusher in this rainbow-ish color WITH HER LOGO ON IT!!!, a brush, another cuticle tool, Maybe her own nail vinyls, and tweezers all in the same rainbow-ish color! 🤯(Except for the nail vinyls the nail vinyls are black)
@crazyowlgirlcncowner4 жыл бұрын
For the cuticle tools I'm pretty sure that they are part of the same tool. Generally, cuticle pushers are dual ended and one side has the actual cuticle pusher while the other has that spatula-looking tool which helps to scrape off dead cuticle skin off of your nail plate. 😊😊😊

Cristine explaining how she’s never really come in contact with anyone who is a conservative asshole really blew my mind... i’m the only liberal person in my family with a few exceptions, and i never get to see them. and also very few friends as well. i didn’t know towns like Ottawa really existed... i’m jealous lmao
@teribirrell4 жыл бұрын
Taylor Alexis I honestly believe Cristine is either very limited in who she comes into contact with (and who she actually speaks to about this particular topic) or she’s giving the people around her credit they don’t deserve. Unfortunately, there are some nasty aspects of Ottawa too. I live a couple hours away, but I have family there and my son is going to the university of Ottawa in September. Like I said in another comment, we are definitely lightyears ahead of the US, but she’s unfortunately glorifying Ottawa a little bit. Just like every other big city, it has its issues too, and to pretend otherwise is naive. I love Cristine, but her privilege definitely allows her a different experience than most.

Teri Birrell that’s a great point. while i wish i lived in an area like ottawa where people have the same liberal ideas as me, i’m sure it has people who aren’t so great too.

DJ exactly. She lives in one of, if not the, wealthiest areas of Ottawa, and works for the government, where of course people aren’t going to outwardly portray their hatred or ignorance for fear of being fired. It’s awesome that she grew up in an accepting family, but not everyone is that fortunate. She also doesn’t come from a religious background, like I do, where a lot of people use religion as an excuse to hate. BS about the Bible saying it’s a sin for man to lay with man and blah blah blah that I’ve heard my whole life from my aunt... in Ottawa.

@paigegross80854 жыл бұрын
i never found the "holosexual" to be offensive. But i do remember when she "came out" and that did offput me. As someone who had a well... horrific time coming out, i thought the joke was kinda insensitive if not invalidating of my own experience. But as a straight person, she can never know what that feels like. So knowing it came from a place of good intentions and ignorance does make a difference, so we let it slide.

@alyssum764 жыл бұрын
For me personally at the time, I had found the holosexual bit kind of offensive for a different reason. As Cristine said in the video, "we obviously aren't actually sexually attracted to glitter" and so I felt that made light of how often people accuse different sexualities to be fake, even within the LGBTQ+ community. I was never offended enough to comment or be mad, but it's what I thought of automatically when I heard it. I feel like my feelings towards the term comes from personal experiences, if that makes sense, but that's why people tend to take offense to some things if others don't. :)
