Great reminder for all of us👌, better to be over prepared to avoid #flappysnaghazard then suffer the consequences. As an underwater videographer my #flappysnaghazard is something that is always on my mind!

My open water, advanced open water, and rescue courses were all through NAUI and my instructor taught us the primary donate with octo on a strap around the neck. We also clip our spg to the right shoulder D ring and it's very easy to check your gauges that way. Seemless procedures with stainless boltsnaps -- always streamlined and efficient :) I'm getting ready to buy my own gear and it's been a challenge to find gear for my preferred configurations ( which I guess are tech diving configurations since I've never seen recreational divers use them?).

@SimplyScuba Found a typo and had to fix it! Also, a quick question: with my primary donate, I think the hose needs to be longer than the typical regulator hose -- do regulators come with a choice of hose lengths or would I need to upgrade to get the hoses correct for my configuration? Thank you so much!

My favorite way to reduce flappysnaghazards is with a zegal combo bcd inflator and safe second. (Cant remember the name of it) so you end up with a primary donate setup. Of course most of my driving is fresh water and pretty shallow with the same group. So we are all used to the slightly odd setup.

D-ring on a weight belt. Not as useless as you think. Back when I was still diving in the UK, in the club I was a member off, we used to dive off a RIB a lot. Part of the water exit/boat boarding drill after the dive was to attach the weight belt to a line and boltsnap which was attached to the boat. That way, if the weight belt was dropped (And I saw this happen more than once) it wasn't lost.

After trying various things, my octo is now attached with a simple snorkel holder...the two-loop silicone thing that costs a buck. My primary is on a long hose...I donate that and switch to my octo...works great. I have my air-integrated computer/compass on a retracting lanyard...works great. My camera goes in the pocket of my wetsuit if it's not in my hand [the pocket I stuck to my suit with AquaSeal...]. Everything else is pretty tidy.

I fasten my gauges console to myself by a pair of Inglefield clips I got from a yacht chandlers, many years ago - being brass, they don't wear out, jam, or break. (Still leaves a loop of hose, though!)

These were the first things I did to my rig, spent some money on clips and stuff but I think it was well worth it! Currently just a camera, lights, and a cobra 3. Soon to add in an octo and probably more camera stuff. Still in the process of setting up a new BCD but all is good. Eye bolts, tight retractors, and hand lanyards. Even have a backup watch in a pocket for timing and an Oceanic vt4 on my wrist. Not enough stuff! Neeeed MOAAARRR!!!

Everything is bolt snapped to its appropriate d-ring. Back up lights are also bunged back onto the harness. For my single tank setup I put my spg hose over my left shoulder along with my low pressure inflator. It then clips to the d-ring on the left shoulder and is just long enough to pull it into view but when not using it its out of the way and tucked up. Easiest setup I have found other than a computer and transmitter.

@@lennygermany1507 and to get more shots you either have to pay someone to get their photos from the dive sites, hope there is a diver in your group that doesn't charge, or hand it off. I just can't justify paying for a full set of photos for one of me when I am taking the same photos as them and it is rare to find more than one photog in your group. Not trying to get far off here either. I would like more photos of me and my setup but the above is why I do not.

The worst dangly offender is people's legs. So much bad trim, so much silt stirring... Next worse are octos. Gauges are the third worst; unlike octos that are never used, divers occasionally do have to use their gauges during the dive and their hoses are usually a bit shorter. My own nemesis is the stock lengths in my reg. 80-85cm for the primaryis too much slack for over the shoulder but not long enough for under the armpit. Been meaning to either shorten it or lengthen it for years, probably time to bump it up the todo list. My camera does reside on a spring coil, but it also has a boltsnap directly attached to it, so it doesn't dangle. I usually clip it on my kidney D ring, rather then my shoulder, so that increases bottom clearance.
