My teenage daughter saved up and bought a used Toyota Avalon from a friend of ours and she was very sad when we turned on the sound. Found this kit and it was easy and worked great! Excellent product and easy to install with these videos. Sounds amazing now, and saved her from having to spend more money to buy a new sub (which she didn't have after saving up for her car). Thank you Simply Speakers! I would definitely recommend!

Great Product ! It will save you Hundreds of dollars. I never would have thought to try this myself but after watching the video I thought why not give it a try. It worked out Great. To replace it would have cost over $400.00. I did it for $23.00 and a few hours of my time. It's very easy to do, just take your time. The easiest way to remove Sub Assembly from rear deck is to use a utility knife and trim off about 1/2 inch on each side. It will slide right out, To remove 3rd taillight assembly just pull straight back toward seat. Keep it Flat Don't lift it up until you hear a Click, locking tabs are about 4 or 5 inches from back of the Cover. closet to back window. Disconnect taillight, Trim 1/2 inch off on each side, 10mm Socket 4 bolts, ITS OUT ! This was so simple to do. Thank You Speaker Repair. This is a Great Money Saver. I'm telling a lot of people about this stuff.

Great video! I have ZERO speaker experience but after ordering the kit and watching this video, I was able to fix the speaker myself without any issues. The hardest part was removing and reinstalling the speaker. I had to cut about a 1/4" off the corner of the wood deck in order to slide the speaker back in. It sounds great now! Thanks SimplySpeakers!

This video made the process really easy. I'm mechanically a 3/10 and still I finished this project on my 2003 Avalon in a few hours. Luckily you don't have to remove the rear deck to get at the subwoofer, just lift out the rear brake light fixture, there's 10mm bolts and it pulls out. He's not kidding about the messy part - get in there and clean that thing up! Thanks for making this video. Is there a break in period for the rebuilt subwoofer?

I want to thank you for this video. I just purchased a used Avalon and the subwoofer was exactly as you described here. In addition, the cone was separated from the basket. I looked online for a replacement speaker, and came across this video instead. So, after watching this, and after pulling out my speaker out of the car and examining it, I ordered a cloth kit and will probably be installing this next weekend, if not a bit earlier. The video was clear and concise and easy to follow along. I look forward to having good, full range sound again in the vehicle. I do have one question. I used a bit of SuperGlue to glue the cone (the yellow/oragne part) back to the frame. It shouldn't be hard to remove it, if necessary. My question is should I have used the SuperGlue, (I wasn't thinking about it when I reinstalled it), or should I remove it and use the glue that comes in the kit? EDIT: The new surround arrived today. I purchased the cloth instead of the rubber. It says in the video that there's a small indexing mark on the surround, but there isn't one on the cloth one (I don't know if it's been removed from the rubber one). Makes no difference. The surround went on perfectly, the glue dried up just fine. I was doing something else, so the speaker sat and the glue dried for about 2 hours before I put it back in the car. The only thing I really had issues with was getting the speaker in and out of the car, I had to trim back the parcel shelf around the speaker just a little bit to make it easier to get the speaker in and out. If you are looking to repair the speaker in your car, I highly recommend SimplySpeakers and the products they sell. This was easy to do, and the bass was back in my car without the buzz and vibration of a bad speaker, all without having to spend $300 or more for a new speaker for that car. Kudos to Simply Speakers for an easy to follow video, easy to use product, and one that works!

First remove the plastic top for the middle taillight that covers the woofer. Make sure to disconnect the taillight wire and it should come free. Second, remove the 4x 10mm bolts around the woofer. Third is the tricky part. Very similar to the Operation board game, you have to jiggle the woofer up and out. The instructions on the Simply Speakers website are more detailed and better. Hope this helps!

I agree that getting the speaker out of the rear deck is a bit of a hassle. I finally, after not being able to get it back in, opened up the rear deck panel with a utility knife. Didn't cut into the area where the cover goes down and on, but did remove about 1/4" along one side, and opened up the cut outs for the front tabs. I didn't take that much out, and now I can just lift the unit in and out very easily.

3.7 is a typical single 4 ohm speaker impedance, but, the stock driver is very efficient and has a unique sound signature that will be hard to match with an aftermarket driver.

for me the ring around the paper cone did not come off this easily... I worked at it pretty good to try and scrape off all the sticky stuff... cone buckled a couple times during that process and I was afraid to use alcohol on it... I finally just glued it without getting all that stuff off. It worked fairly well after installation, but there was still buzzing with certain fat bass sounds...(the end of Kiss' "Black Diamond" for instance) I took it back out and the inner part around the cone wasn't quite sticking well. So if you're going to do this, make sure to get that outside ring of the paper cone real clean before glue-ing. I ended up just putting in a new sub for about $70. This isn't quite right for the JBL amp in the car as I don't think it's got a lowpass filter there, but all the distortion is gone. (eventually I'll put in a mono amp just for it... and I think it'll sound as good or better than the original)

Does your shop demagnetize then re-magnetize the speaker magnets and or recenter the magnet pole? I am winding coils in jigs to do the usual musical instrument 12" speakers. I watched a guy at the only recone shop in town recone a speaker on a small cart while people swarmed around him with all kinds of crap in their arms. I know I can do better. I worked for Speakerwerks in the 1980s. A clean work area is paramount. I hear paper tearing. LOL T'is the only way! Nice job! I'd use your shop!

Hello, I purchased a refoam kit for my 2000 Avalon, the foam was completely gone, is this still going to be worthwhile? Is the absence of any foam going to have destroyed the subwoofer? It did have some bass coming out of it, just not a good thump type of sound,

Pretty sneaky using 3.7 Ohms instead of the standard 4. It sounds like something an American car company would do. Forcing you to buy stock parts at full price.
