hook= rough and pyle= soft side; velcro correct terminology. Thanks for sharing. In a pinch you can use baby socks and tie a little string around to hold them up. I have done it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I just picked up some "sew-ology" grip fabric for slippers soles w/ nubbies for $3 at hobby lobby to add to the bottom of these so they last longer! This is awesome- thanks!

Black Sunshine Good idea! Mine still look great from last year, thankfully. They're out and ready though - good since we've got snow already! I'd love to see yours if you post them anywhere. :-)

maybe felted wool would be better for all instead of the plastic fleece? just wondering
@simplystashlessvlog8 жыл бұрын
Buji Knits Yes! I was thinking about other options and meant to suggest maybe felting a thrifted wool sweater. As long as it wasn't too stiff, I think that would work well! Great suggestion!
@bujiknits8 жыл бұрын
or knit from the bottom up, an enclosed tube...even a bit bigger, then throw in the wash to felt before sewing on the velco..I just a new boxer mix & I might try that w/her...cause i can't sew! LOL

Buji Knits Ha! I actually knit one! I think I still have it somewhere. I only did the one. It was too narrow so difficult to get on him. I may have to keep an eye out for a sweater too felt. I need to use to this polar fleece though. It's been in my stash forever.

What could you use on the bottom of booties for traction on slippery surfaces inside?
@simplystashlessvlog5 жыл бұрын
I have seen knitters and sewists use puffy fabric paint on the bottom of slippers and such and I think that would work. You could also add a later of a grippier fabric like they used for footie pajamas. I usually put the booties on right before we go out and take them off when we come in so I've never seen a need to add anything to mine since they've done fine on the linoleum covered stairs going in and out. If you add something that works well, I'd love to hear about it so I can add that here. 🙂

I live in eastern wa too. I am also from Alaska originally. I live this idea. How do you determine size? Polar fleece water proof? This is very new to me.

Tawnya Mitchell Hi, Tawnya! Hope you're staying warm in this cold snap! (We broke out the booties again!) So, polar fleece is not really waterproof, but it does seem water resistant and does well in snow. I just lay the booties on a rack near a vent to dry. I figure if they're good enough for sled dogs running the Iditarod, they're good enough for my boys going out to do their business. ;-) As for sizing, you might need to play a bit with this. You want the booties wide enough to slip over the foot easily (for my little guys, I went with about 2" wide strips). Glad a flexible measuring tape and measure the widest point on your dog's foot, divide by half and add a half inch for seaming plus a bit for wiggle room. The booties will be cinched up and held on by the Velcro though so if they end up a bit big, it shouldn't be a problem, but you won't want to be squeezing them on a dog who really needs to potty. When you cut, be sure the fabric stretches side to side across the foot and not up and down the leg. That will also give a little more flexibility in the fitting as well. I hope that helps!

What size boots is Gus Gus , as it is the same as mine
@simplystashlessvlog5 жыл бұрын
I just checked. I used a 3" x 9" piece of polar fleece for his. I would cut and sew one and check the sizing. My guys just got new booties after I cut and sewed a batch for a friend and realized they were too small for the intended dog. Haha

how far from the top do you place the velcro?
@simplystashlessvlog5 жыл бұрын
I sewed mine about half an inch from the top edge. That leaves enough fabric to keep the edge of the Velcro from rubbing on the dog's leg. You'll want the Velcro to hit near the narrowest part of the leg when worn so the bootie stays on well. I hope these work for your pup!

@@simplystashlessvlog Thank you so much. I've been asked to make these for the homeless folks dogs here in Arizona for the summer heat protection. I'm adding extra protection on the bottoms for a heat barrier. Going to use different material, but I love your simple pattern!

Oh, that's awesome! Once you get an assembly line going (cut a bunch, then sew), you can really whip up a ton very quickly.

VERY CUTE, BUT i NEED WATER PROOF
@simplystashlessvlog3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I'd guess they could be made with other material to be more waterproof, but these were really meant for snow instead of rain/puddles/mud. I would look for a fairly flexible waterproof material at your local fabric store. Let me know if you find something that works well! 🐾

Thanks for the great tutorial. I am going to try and make some booties for my Golden Doodle. I saw a tip where a lady used the fabric from an old broken umbrella (which would be pretty waterproof), I'm going to give that a try. Another person added 'jean' patches for the sole of the bootie for added strength. My pup comes in from a walk and had mud all the way up his legs so I'm going to try and make my boots taller, then the trick will be IF he'll keep them on and not bite them off

I don't think these would fit the bottom of a dog's foot very well. They look like they are for a chihuahua. Need to make a video for larger dogs. You need to use something that is waterproof, otherwise they are worthless.
@simplystashlessvlog6 жыл бұрын
Thejudge Well, these are the same style booties used by mushers for their sprint and long distance sled dogs, so they're definitely not useless. They work quite well on my little guys as well in snow and ice. Resizing is simple by making the booties wider for a larger dog - just measure your dog's foot and adjust the width of the fabric. If these aren't what your looking for however, there are plenty of other videos and many styles available in stores that may suit your needs.
