Sir, this build series is the first time I've ever seen the inside of a Volvo 2.3 liter. I must say I am amazed at how much Volvo Overkilled the strength of this engine. The intake ports are massive compared to other engines, it's no wonder you love them, I wish I had known of them 20 years ago. Great video series

Hi Matt, you tighted down the tensioner in the wrong direction. Volvo says counterclockwise. Endposition at 7 o'clock. Won't be fun if the belt rips off. Greetings from Germany. Ps: very nice monster engine 👍😉

Usually whoever makes your cams will provide you with this. I went with what KM recommended and will modify as I see fit, but these specs have alawyas worked pretty well on 11mm lift 280 cams for me.

Very very nice! You have good knowledge + all of the work alone.. So, you timed like this because of modified cams, or you would do it anyway? How are cams now positioned comparing to factory spec? They seem parallel, but could cam locking tool be inserted?
@SimplyVolvo5 жыл бұрын
I only timed like this because of the modified cams. They aren't perfectly parallel, but very close. KM cams got the timing i run very close to being parallel. However I still set the cams up parallel @ volvo tdc and then fine tune time it using the dial gauge @ true tdc. I dont use the cam locking tool because I dont time them the volvo factory way.

Idk if you already went over this but can you explain how to do the dual oil fillers I can’t get the 2nd oil filler outta my the other cam cover
@SimplyVolvo5 жыл бұрын
You have to have the cam cover off and push it through the bottom. Then press it back in through the bottom on the new cover. You need to use a press or a block of wood and hammer.

Honda K24 has the same problems and look at how popular that engine is. I think it's more of the lack of aftermarket support.

@@SimplyVolvo I personally haven't experienced cracked liners in the white blocks. I have a C30 at 300hp and I drive it hard constantly. I'm waiting on the day it goes so I can send the block off to have it machined but it just doesnt break. My last C30 was a tank too. Same mods, about the same power, and I drove it hard all the time.

@keeganpock8645 жыл бұрын
Can you explain the dual oil caps?
@SimplyVolvo5 жыл бұрын
I have dual oil fillers caps so that I can set lift @ true tdc on the cams via a dial indicator gauge. This way I can set timing with the cam cover on / not have to cut up a old one to set it on cylinder 1.
@keeganpock8645 жыл бұрын
Ahh smart smart.
@alltheboost53635 жыл бұрын
That's not how you find out top dead center on an engine. All Piston engines have dwell at top dead center so if you use your measurement you will be off. The correct way of doing it is to use a piston stop there are many videos on KZbin of how to do that. I literally did it the way you're doing it for many years and found out that I was always a degree or two off minimum.
@SimplyVolvo5 жыл бұрын
Yep I know, but for my purposes this is close enough. The real way is actually to use a a degree wheel on the crank.
@100pyatt2 жыл бұрын
Degree wheel with a dial gauge to measure TDC dwell then set to the middle of that dwell 👆👆
