Hello, i am currently working on a project like your. Mixing 3 cars into 1. 1997 volvo c70 t5 (engine and parts) 1995 volvo 960 2.5 (gearbox and parts) 1993 volvo 240 Polar (car) Currently busy with the t5 engine (b5234T) stronger con rods, pistons etc etc. Holset hx40 preparing. Im still driving the 240 as a daily. I am wondering what i will find considering the motor mounts. I noticed you didnt do a video about those. Am i going to weld. Is it just mounting the 960 mounts on the 240 frame. Etc etc. Plus i noticed that at first u thought u wanted to keep the ac and later decided to remove it. Can you clarify? Simply impossible to keep the ac or?

Sounds like a cool project 👍. There will be a video later today (if everything works out) where I will be talking and assembling the engine mounts. They are off the shelf items and I do have a 10% discount on them through speeding. Basically bolt-on things and you can get various models depending on what volvo and what engine and so on. I decided to not use ac because this car will no longer be a daily like the very first plan was. Its going to be more track-day oriented that planned so ac is not a priority. And a friend of mine really wanted the ac system so that tipped the scale for me and I sold it to him. //Backman

Im guessing i wont be using the 960 engine mounts due to age etc. I bought a dummy 2.0 block to get the engine bay ready. First engine en transmission rebuild. Plus daily driver rust repair (s80 v8). Thanks 😁 I will be using the M90 transmission out of a Manual Volvo V90 with the inline six. Driveshaft from the same vehicle 👍 There is a video way back when I remove that. In the future I might have to upgrade to a beefier transmission. So if high power is your goal you might want to go for a BMW diesel gearbox or something other that is stronger.

Why not use the rn version like a b5244t4.. Then you could run coil on plug easily and vvt.. Also has solid lifters, windowed block, and better coolant passages. As well as 9.5:1 rather then 8.5:1 little more low end torque.. I put the b5234t9 rn 2.3 in my 98 s70 t5m but went with a bigger turbo then td04hl. Mines also fwd so no clocking necessary. But always loved the idea of a 740/940 with a 5cyl. Also contemplated a 242 with a turbo ls but then i lose the volvo factor. Either way very cool!!

I did have a rn b5254t from -98/99 to start with but making that run with motronic 4.4 was a little bit too much work and it needed more custom work that I wanted to avoid since i want this to be beginner friendly. I still believe that the B5244t5 from 2005 is the "better" engine to use, if you want to run aftermarket ecu and so on. They have however gotten very expensive latley. So the short answer is that this was just the easiest "og" way of doing it. I figured I would do the T6 which is an rn engine from a -99 S80 insted.

@@BackmansGarage i have an awd xc90 with the t6 awesome winter car and just all around. The 2.5 had some cylinder cracking issues. Any of the 5cyl whiteblock can run on m4.4 very easily. I didnt run cop and just drilled the end of the cam for the rotor plate and removed the intake cam sensor. Use the 98 intake with cable throttle. Plug n play. My tuner shut off o2 check and sas along with evap. We repurposed the rear o2 preheater wires to power the vvt hub at a set rpm/load point. And used the stock o2 signal wire as an analog to the aem wideband. All on m4.4

Interesting stuff, but... you're using an angle grinder with the intake side of the turbo on the same bench? And grinding the body with the oil unions exposed? Not ideal...

Its an rwd conversion, one must turn it upsidedown in order to fit it into the car. Either that or build a custom manifold.

Shocking that your video and audio quality was so good, just using your phone! What phone was/is it? Really quite excellent. I'm going to guess an iPhone 12 Pro or 13 Pro, judging from the video quality.

Thanks! :) Audio was external tho, zoom H6 with rode mics. But video was from my Samsung S22 Ultra. It was ok, but in some dark situations let me down 🙂

Tack för att du kollar :) Vet inte om det finns någon favorit så direkt, alla är ju bra på sitt. Hade en Fiat uno 1.0L som man kunde piska dag ut och dag in utan att något hände, fantastiskt bra motor men kanske lite slö med sina 55hk. B230 ja den är ju väldigt drifttsäker men inte så jätterolig att varken köra med eller lyssna på, grym på låga varv, törstig och trött dock 850 T5 motor sjunger ju fint men är ganska trött på låga varv istället, ganska slöa original, mer jobb å trimma än b230 och dyrare men somsagt fantastskt ljud. Gillar Diesel femman i våran V70 jättemycket, stark som en oxe och ett skönt bröölande morrande ljud vid påstigning. Men tyvärr ganska död på höga varv. Rb26DETT som satt i min Nissan GTR jag hade en gång var extremt högvarvig och gick nästan inte att köra i normal trafik takt utan ville bara stämpla hela tiden vilket blev för stressande för mig i längden. Annars fantastiskt ljud och drog hårt med mycket ketchup effekt. Hade en 364 Nailhead V8 i en Buick från 1959, den va riktigt trevlig att köra men gammel som satan men samtidigt charmig och följsam. Det närmaste bästa kombinationen borde ju vara något i stil med en överladdad V8, Kraftfull på både låga och lite högre varv. Har alltid vart svag för v8 och är mera typen som skulle köra en E63AMG över en Toyota Supra tex. Men om jag måste svara på din fråga om vad jag anser är den bästa motorn jag provat så får det TYVÄRR bli en B230FK då den i särklass har hållt bäst och gett mig minst bekymmer under alla år. Men somsagt, alla har något bra att komma med.

Always nice to see a new video. My b230fk rear seal is leaking, so that annoys me, as it is my daily and all. How much time would it be to take the gearbox away and replace the crankshaftseal?

I would say about 4 hours if you know what you are doing and nothing becomes a problem. But I would book a saturday if it was the first time doing it.

Support bearing for the driveshaft usually goes bad in the rubber when dissasembing it, if its never been changed. The platic clips on the shifter might be a good thing to replace while at it, then you may or may not have the three point rubber connector on the driveshaft between gearbox and shaft, that may have cracks in it. Might also be a good idea to look over the rear seal on the gearbox, and if that is bad and have been leking, might want to go ahead and change the gearbox rubber mount 😄
