Simpson Deseret Crossing / Part 3 - mid Simpson Desert to North of Poeppel Corner

We make it into the Simpson Desert where we tackle the 1,100 big sand dunes that are located within the desert system. We visit the Lone Gum Tree as well as doing some required vehicle repairs along the way.

What a wonderful country The lone gum tree reminds me of some very very old trees in northern africa in the sahara. They have a root system working down to an oasis which keeps them alive. Perhaps this is the same and there is an underground water source no one has noticed. I love the point of all three states...

The mystery of how the Lone Gum Tree got there is unsolved. I tend to agree with you, there has to be some water source of some sort for it to survive.

Another great video Mick! I like the simple, down to earth presentation. You're inspiring me to do the trip myself! I think it's great idea to have a designated time for Starlink, so it doesn't consume the social time around the fire. I see the guy with the 200 series has the iTechWorld solar blanket - what's he using it for? Presumably to charge a 2nd battery, but wouldn't that be being kept fully charged by the vehicle during the day? Also the two vehicles which got bogged, are they all terrain tyres or road tyres? The tread doesn't look too aggressive, vs yours for example. We've got a Pajero and I had some challenges trying to get up the back side of Big Red with Dueler A/T's, so it could be the 4WD system too. Cheers, Greg

The solar blanket was being used to capture a charge from the late afternoon sun when we paked up for the day as there were two fridges running off of the second battery. Sorry but I can't help you with the tyres as they were not mine I didn't have a good look at them.

That last sunset was so beautiful!! Like a glowing red fire in the west! I couldn't help thinking that you needed a grader to go before you & prepare the road as the ruts in some places were quite deep. The nights might have been quite cold but any later in the year & the days would be too hot to travel without air-conditioning & so you would need more fuel. So now I know what the Simpson desert looks like & personally I like the scrubby look rather than barren look & I am sure that the wildlife agree with me!! 😆 I am looking forward to your next part of the trip that is for sure as it sounds more interesting vegetation wise!! btw; did you see any dingoes, emus or roos on your trip so far? Or feral animals for that matter as I am told there are many roaming about in the centre of our country.

I sometimes think that I record too many sunsets or sunrises but I love them. We saw some dingoes and plenty of bearded dragon lizard plus some bird life but no camels unfortunately.

Sorry but I can't tell you the height of the sand dunes as I do not have a clue😢😢 The top that Jo had on was from one of her functions that she had been involved with. Can't recall if it was a sporting group, not sure.
