I am surprised that you didn't mention a line of dialogue that Hibbert mentions in Season 10 about how laughter is the best coping mechanism against stress, and is the reason he chuckles so frequently. It really makes you rethink about his character with that information.

It could be kind of a continuation on his "simpsons time-line" video He kinda functions in comic book time but, unlike captain America where you just add years to the amount of time he stayed on ice or Iron man and the punisher where you change the war... His story has so much "don't think too much about it" or "this all happened a while ago" that it looks like a wolverine resume. He's a kid with a son that's gone through a divorce but needs a fake ID to drink

Dr. Hibbert has the reputation for becoming too much like Dr. Nick in the later years. So for this one, I really wanted to get into the weeds with this character study, go over a lot of the examples to see if this actually happened or not. This ended up being a less conventional Simpsons Histories, as there less relationship and character arc stuff to go over, and more the plot stuff and meta/production aspects surrounding the character.

I always felt like Dr. Hibbert in his earlier years was a parody of Bill Cosby from the Cosby Show, what with him being a wholesome black Doctor with quirky mannerisms like his laugh.I wonder if a spotlight episode on him would have even worked. A fascinating little trivia fact for me is that originally he was going to be a white woman named Julia Hibbert, but once the staff found out they were gonna be going head-to-head with the Cosby Show during Season 2 they decided to make him a Cosby parody instead. I wonder what the female version of Dr. Hibbert would've been like and how she would've gotten used, because the show doesn't have many recurring female characters who aren't primarily defined as wives and/or mothers. Curious if they ever drew up any designs for her before she was scrapped, because if so, I'd love to see them.

I remember that I often thought that it was weird that a big family like Hibbert's was never expanded upon, and that I would like to know more about the. But I also think that this desire is probably more important than its resolution, because it would probably be disappointing. It's good to want something of a show that you will never get, it adds to the few mysteries that remain. Also, Hibbert's family is just too detached from the usual cast to justify a whole episode about them. They're from a different world, they wouldn't have anything more to share than in a normal episode.

I will always love this series. It’s so chill and yet so intriguing. My attention never lapses for a moment because you are so engaging Mr Jims, and along with the music it sets the atmosphere and the pace for what we are about to watch. I agree, I would love to see a spotlight episode to see what his life is like. I feel it would be a melancholy take, as comedians such as himself usually have the most touching and depressing backstories. For your next character, I would be interest in Marge’s mother. I feel she is sometimes constantly there for a short time and then drops off of the face of the earth for ages. The dynamic between her and Marge, her and Patty and Selma, her and Homer, her and grandpa and as well as the rest of the family is interesting. I feel there is both a love and disdain for her? At least from what I vaguely remember. It would mean that you would have all the grandparents covered :). Keep up the fantastic work! You always make my day!

@@Super_Mario128 I feel like, if they were to bring back Apu and his family, it'd be a good opportunity to give exposure to Indian voice actors/actresses...I feel like that would be more respectful than completely throwing them out. Introducing a new Indian family after getting rid of Apu would be too jarring and Apu's family has been expanded on so extensively over the years that I feel like it'd be a waste of potential not to use the characters.

He’s just one of those guys that kinda has a strong relationship with some other characters, like Apu and Chief Wiggum, but still feels like all of his appearances are self contained little moments for him. I love Dr Hilbert! Definitely I think he deserves to have his own spotlight episode, he is a very under used character, who is very present and interesting, but we keep from having even more laughs from him because we never get the time to. Also, his development needs to set some hinted characteristics straight, and make'em clear to the viewers. Personality, I would simply adore to see an episode about his marriage to Bernice, because his infidelity has been suggested an awful lot of times, specially in the middle seasons (post classic, pre HD), but that was when everything was a little too wild and wacky to be taken as the final take and sure fact. So we need to know what is up with that... is he a dangerous like abusive assalting creepy boss type, or is he inappropriate but clueless commenting and laughing that keeps being misunderstood type? Does he have a specific affair with his secretary, or does he sleeps around and constantly cheating? What is he doing and who is he doing it to? They can't just pop the empty, unclear, "cheating" jokes in our faces and then let it be. The thing is, when the couple is shown together, they do seem happy and in tune indeed. They seem to have a functional marriage and are rarely seen fighting. So, what's up? But it's also like Bernice knows about the stuff, because then there's the jokes about the Halloween parties and the swing and bdsm and stuff. So, you know what I think it you be just really funny and interesting? An episode where they are forced to confront their open secret, by Dr. being caught in the act or something. Then Bernice could admit she knew it all along, of course, she ain't stupid. But she would put up with this by having her own share of nonmarital flings. So after some shenanigans, either with them choosing to remain with their "I won't tell if you won't tell" dynamics even post the uncovering crisis, or separating to try to be with their other significant other, or even trying to move on like they never discovered anything, or trying to stop and being exclusive, whatever the script went to... after the story they could make the transition from unnoficial to oficial poli amorous, open but marriage centered, relationship. Because they love each other, and miss each other, wanna live together and being married, but they also wanna engare romantically with other people. And so because status quo, they'll have their fancy upper class happily married image for the town, but maintain their secret sexual adventures withing their own businesses, only that now they'd know about each other and play along with it. For a B story it could be about Bart and Lisa getting sent a while to the Hilbert kids privet, elitist, far away from town intern school, which would explain why the kids don't attend Springfield elementary and are never shown in town other than church sunday mornings. Back in Evergreen Terrace the Simpsons love ones could be facing their own infidelity suspicions but in their case, we all know they are as monogamic as they can be, and that's great for them. It would be a great place for parallels between the very similar yet extremely opposed two families. PS. I also want them to make sure Dr. Hilbert is not some sexual pervert, assaulting their subordinate women rich man. There's something about the abusive, mandingo sex freak black male that doesn't sit straight at the third decade of 21st century. We don't need any more Cosby jokes, and we don't need the intelligent, rich, respected professional, black man to be the one in the show who behaves like Harvey W. Enough with this type of representation. He can have the vicious we already know about him, that are already well stablished: he is money hunger, weak for letter adult Halloween costumes, lost the sense of when its a good moment to giggled, and definitely can be oblivious to patients sentiments. Also he is a republican. So yes, it's possible to say he is the selfish capitalist men, who became conservative out of an afluent monetary situation, but to make him a serial cheater who takes advantage of his subordinate women is unfair, too risky, and in poor taste considering the pre existent negative stereotypes concerning the sexual supposedly predatory behaviors of black men in USA traditional (white) media. Let him be flawed but likeble and ultimately harmless, not change him into straight up criminal and perpetuator of racist stereotypes.

The fact it was Dr hibbert definitely interested me just because it did feel like he was kind of a blank slate so now to know that there's more to him is pretty cool.
