Really awesome video Mike! Knew the car was fast, but didn't expect the standard version to beat a GT3! The EVO is on another league with an extra 50bhp in comparison, which is saying something haha Indeed, the game of the car is the fans, switching them on and off to maximize both speed in turns and speed on straights. Glad you enjoyed the car and the skin! 💪

Gotta check this car out! I love their previous car in AC, and this one seems really interesting. Always found the old one kinda tricky and unusual to drive because of just how little steering input it needs, but it's part of the fun! Looking forward to trying this one.

A year later and my favourite thing about this car is (almost) not the fans nor the DRS, but the car's ability to auto-kill the DRS before you try sending it flat into a corner with the fans off. It's like it has a sense of self-preservation

Interesting video as usual Mike. How do you like the tablet up top? Is it difficult to view while racing?

How bad is the IPS glow on these monitors? Still trying to decide whether I got VA or IPS for my tripples.

This was the best track with the most corners in the game ? I think this would only beat GT3 head to head in a track with very few straights ...

@@SimRacing604 Ah so sorry it just looks dated and the perception of speed looks unrealistically slow. Yeah after seeing this video I researched the game I didn't know it is supposed to be a "racing simulator" and has a cult like following. I love the idea behind it. I hope they make a newer version of this game since Kunos Simulazioni himself has stated since game release that he reckons its physics engine "lacks seriousness" . I love your setup up though.

Tried this car too and still drives unreal, suspension setup is nowhere near a properly designed formula student car, resulting in unbelievably bad steering response. We were double checking we weren't driving a tank while driving that car😂. Either those guys did not want to give real data to the mod deliberately (which is fully understandable) or they really didn't know much about vehicle dynamics, and the real car also has that bad dynamic performance (this could explain why it didn't get good results in competitions). As for the aero of this car, active aero devices have been made legit from 2020, so still good to see someone trying "unusual" design as students learn more from this than textbooks. BTW, if you want to know how a formula student car should drive like you can try garyjpaterson's mod of the 2016 car by UCM from New Zealand. I can assure it drives pretty close to a real one, with much faster steering response (which FS cars should have), even though that electric car has four on-wheel AMK motors, giving it higher unsprung mass than combustion cars.

Hi Jack! This car was a tech demonstrator for a fully powered ground effect car inside the FS regulations. As you can see, most of the fans are behind the rear wheels, inducing quite a bit of understeer as a result. That is why we implemented a steering system based on the Mclaren 1998 F1 car, with the brake-steer, and that is why the steering wheel has 4 paddles. This system could not be implemented into the simulator. So yes, the car has real data, and we know the flaws of the car. We focused on making a fully functional PGE FS car, but it came at a cost. The car was heavy for FS standards, and we had to compromise other areas to package everything Talking about the results, Formula Student is tight on budget and time for most of the teams. However, this car gave us the best results in our history. For us, it was a success, given our resources and our design goals. COVID took a massive hit in our budget, to the point we had to make a crowdfunding to finance the inscription costs. We have nowhere near the support and funding many top teams do And finally, the suspension system is not running the real setup as default. The car is higher and stiffer so the EVO version doesn't bottom out too much with the ground (99% of people will run this car on tracks way faster than an AutoX). These settings can be adjusted to use the values we were using IRL through the setup page. Have a nice day!
