Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 - Chess
Sims 1
In the Sims 1, one or two Sims can play chess. When Sims plays chess alone, as you can see, the pieces on the chess table will not move. no matter how many moves are made, the chess pieces will stay the same. But when two Sims play chess against one another, the pieces on the chess table will sometimes move, and they show different stages of a real game. they represent real moves. Playing chess increases their logic skill. The loser will always be upset after losing the game, and the winner will laugh mockingly.
Sims 2
In the Sims 2, again one or two Sims can play chess. But Sims will open the chess board and place the pieces down before playing. As you can see, in the Sims 2, The chessboards are actually fully animated. Sims will grab each individual chess piece and move it across the board accordingly. Because in the Sims 2, Sims are playing an actual chess game, and you can watch closely their every move. Sims that have less than two nice points can cheat when they're playing against another Sim. They will try to rearrange the chess pieces by distracting their opponent. But if the Sim gets caught, they will lose relationship points with the other Sim
Sims 3
Like in the previous Sims games, In the Sims 3, Sims can practice chess alone or play against another Sim. But unlike The Sims 2, In the Sims 3, Sims don't play chess dynamically. The Style is more similar with Sims 1. When they make moves, the pieces don't go where they move them. They are pre generated and show differently on the chess board. If a Sim dies, when the Grim Reaper shows, another Sim can have the option to play chess with the Grim Reaper for that Sim's life, if there is a chess table nearby. In the Sims 3, Sims can compete in chess tournaments with other Sims. The Sims 3 has an option for Sims to invite other Sims for ranked chess matches.
Sims 4
In The Sims 4, Sims can ponder moves at a chessboard to gain the focused emotion and increase their chance of winning. One or two Sims can play chess. But in the Sims 4, the moves are random. Watching them play chess doesn't make any sense. the moves don't make sense. The pieces don't go where they move them and they show differently on the chess board. Sometimes Sims make a move twice, Here again. She goes with a white peace first, then makes another move with a black peace. Sometimes the chessboard doesn't change for several moves. The loser can take the loss with a chuckle, or by angrily knocking the pieces Like in the Sims 3.
Like in the Sims 2, Sims can also cheat in the Sims 4 by distracting their opponent.

it is very simple: the business side of the company doesn't want to pay the developers, the animators to spend time on details - or spend time on much anything when it comes to sims 4. It is all about bare minimum for funding, but milking money from consumers as much as they can.

Wouldn't judge on Sims 5 during such an early stage without much footage of the gameplay other than few prototypes. I doubt however that it would be as highly detailed as Sims 2. Although usually Sims prototypes particularly aren't that different than the final games in general.

I do remember how oddly detailed Sims 2 was as a kid and spender a lot staring at tiny details which was very unusual for that era or any era for that matter. It really felt like they had a mind of their own! I kinda see how downgraded most of the details were in later games but I didn't like to compare between the Sims games much as I though each game had their very own unique experience as a whole equally.

I do agree. If one preferres doll like, candyesc look for the game and silly extremely PG gameplay with no serious depth, TS4 is absolutely the best choice out of the bunch (this is not sarcasm, I understand that this sort of gameplay is actually preferrable for some). For those who apreciate rich gameplay options and customization of items and characters and relish the freedom of open world but can ignore displeasing asthetics, TS3 is unbeatable. TS2 would be optimal for someone who wants good gameplay with the added spice of quirky, isn't too keen on freeroaming the neighbourhood(s), can ignore lower customization of items and character looks and adores all sorts of whimsical, lovingly crafted details. Bonus if they are good with TS2 bodyshop, adds some really good customization options. And TS I'd recomend for someone who likes really punishing retro games with quirky details and playing with the same unchangeing character forever (you might relate if you preferre to play with aging off). I am choosing to leave out all performance, monetary, moddability and compatability related details from this comparason.

Sims 5 needs the dynamic effects from Sims 2, the massive interactive world of Sims 3, Sims 3's robust amount of content without the exploitative practices of the Sims' Store involving the Sims 3 official content, The gorgeously in-depth and varied CAS in Sims 3 mixed with Sims 4's, with a final touch of similiar soft beauty that was the art style of Sims 4. I think you'd have the ultimate Sims game if this was the case.

I kinda like Sims 4's multitask system, it was really neat. While the Sims 4's path finding was still not great, it was better than the previous games. Sims 2 can walk through and between smaller objects more smoothly that even moves natural even though the placement of the objects weren't that flexible. Sims in Sims 3 move like a small tank with tank controls on a parking lot indoors. I love the collectives in Sims 3 such as gems that you could cut in different shapes. I like the automatic memory system in Sims 2 that did also affect the gameplay while the memory system in the other was just like a photo album of tiny things that took space when automated. Maybe you could combine the two systems. I also want to be able to sculpt and shape the bodies in the 4's CAS as well how flexible, quick and easy the building system was.

Sims 3 wins! Sure it doesnt have the individual chess piece animation but there's a lot more to do with chess (plus we still see change in the pieces regardless). The competitions, playing against Grim Reaper just give more dimension to such a simple thing. And i love that you can compete because chess competitions are a thing and it just makes the Sim's hobby more than just an alone time activity or occasional play. I also love the different reactions to losing. Sims 3 traits matter more than people think, but unfortunately most people want to create perfect Sims and dont experiment with their traits. The chair animation for the child Sim is so cute too! I always thought the sims 2 books were too much. Sure the Sims 2 has a more detailed animation but the Sims 3 has a lot more gameplay and depth for such a small thing

As a chess enthusiast myself (1838 official FIDE rating / 2150 Lichess blitz rating). TS2 contains the best version of a chess match. In TS3 and TS4 the piece just warp from one position to another. Also, there are only 2 openings which are Sicilian Alapin (1.e4 c5 2.c3 d5) and Indian Opening (1.e4 e5 2.d3 c6). Both are not very common in the real world (although the first one can be seen occasionally at a club player's level). There is even more bullshit when they play against the computer with Slav Defense Exchange Variation (1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.cxd5 cxd5) when there is a moment of white bishop taking the black king on e8 which is an illegal move (the king can't be captured, to win the game, it must be checkmated instead). In TS2 the chess opening is the Caro-Kann Defense Exchange Variation Panov-Botvinnik attack (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4). The white pawns later in the game (4 groups of ugly doubled / isolated pawn structures) look pretty much like the game that Fischer played against Euwe at the Leipzig Chess Olympiad in 1960. Fischer playing white was the 11th world chess champion while Euwe playing black was the 5th world chess champion. This game was considered brilliant by many people since white sacrificed pawn structure but got initiative in the long run. The black Rook on h8 was out of the game for an entire game. I soooo love the fact that the terms "check" and "checkmate" were just "turned around" into "meck" and "meckchate" in Sims 4. I didn't know why they kept saying "meck" up until that point, but laughed so hard when one of my sims said "meckchate" at the end of the game and I realized what it meant. If I made The Sims 5: Chess can be played by 1 or 2 players. Children can play it alone for Logic and Imagination skills. Most of the time, the one with most Logic Skill wins. Here the moviments are like TS2. Mean Sims can cheat by playing twice in a row, but Perceptive Sims will never be distracted. Sims may play Chess with Grim Reaper when a Sim dies, and it has 10% of chance for each Logic point. EP stuff: Pets: Cats may jump into the table and mess the game up, if they have the Troble Maker trait. Also, Equestrian Sims use the Knight more than other Sims. Modern Times: Aliens are best than Sims at Chess

I'm the only one who thinks that The Sims 2 is way better than The Sims 3 and The Sims 4? Well I mean, it is. The Sims 2 is aged well since I've played all platforms with different versions. I’ve played all 3 in the past few days (all expansions) and I must say. Sims 2 is more detailed, but it can get boring quick. Sims 3 is just chaotic af and unpredictable (I play in the late night world) and sims 4 looks amazing and has the best most (ofc. Because it’s a newer game). But sims 3 honestly takes the crown. Even without going to uni or vacation or to the future ect, you can play the game for hours without being bored. I love it.
