What a lovely building. Here in particular I can see the canons of Byzantine architecture dramatically reworked and combined with new ideas on space and decor. The Iznik tiles are gorgeous. Such refinement.

I see this is from 9 years ago but I only just saw this. What a beautiful Mosque. I am going to Turkey in a few months and now plan on taking the time to see the Rüstem Paşa mosque . I seem to remember my grandmother talking about it :) ❤️ Thank you for this.

"Squinches" is such a cute name, lol. As for the design of this place, I'm reminded of the backs of classic playing cards near the bottom and then candy canes toward the top. It just doesn't seem to go together like many examples of cathedrals I've seen in earlier playlists... Not my favorite aesthetic, tbh. Zooming in on the designs of the tiles did help me appreciate how pretty they are - especially the Saz style. The note at the end was funny. I hope you guys had a good time perusing the shops. 🙃

3:14 what a NICE capital! The way it uses nothing more than this one simple islamic ornament in repetitions and variations but overall seems to mimic a corinthian capital!
