Sincerely (2022) - Violet Evergarden [Piano]

Finally, I decided to play this piece as my first formal piece on Fazioli. And also it was to celebrate the Chinese New Year on 2022.2.1
In March 2018, I initially uploaded the full version arrangement of Sincerely. Although I now see many flaws and deficiencies in the performance and arrangement, it was from then on that I gradually found my own style.It can be said that was a milestone video.
At that time, when my friend Uncle Jiu(Drunk Sashimi) returned to China after graduation, we often got together. After several years of something like ”cultivation“, I have made great progress in music understanding and performance methods.
In 2019, I uploaded the street version of Sincerely and it went popular on bilibili very unexpectedly. In fact, at that time, I didn't make any preparations in advance, I just simply went to the street piano and played this song. At that time, I had gradually moved away from the early mechanical performance like smashing iron and chasing trains, and gradually began to pursue some emotional expressions.

In 2022, I established a new recording studio HarmonicStudio, and set many goals, such as making more videos, apllying for music conservatary and so on. However, all of this is actually for the purpose of making further progress in my piano skills. This Sincerely can be said to be the first song I officially played and recorded on Fazioli. Although there are not too many complicated changes in the arrangement compared to the old version, I think all what I wanted to say and express can be conveyed to you through this video and the performance.

Your shift from the previously more "mechanical" version as you called it, to this more "emotional" is incredible! I listened the original one so often that I was really able to appreciate all the little nuances in the interpretation! This was very inspiring but also fruitful to listen to~

Absolutely love this redone rendition of a timeless classic. Everything from the dynamic and tempo control to the raw emotion in the performance is a step up from the original. I like the amount of verb in the mix and the extra nuance to phrasing, all contributing to such a polished arrangement 0:00 - Right from the start, the first new notes captivate the audience instantly. Such a nice light touch throughout the first verse as it builds up to the grand first chorus 1:45 - Love the extra phrase you inserted here to give some pause to the flow of the piece, lingering on the last few notes before easing into the second verse 2:05 - the high right hand octave harmony rings so nicely! 2:54 - i like the alternating octaves in the melody, gives some nice variety 3:42 - the sudden drop in dynamic level to contrast the grandiose end of the previous phrase was done so nicely 3:49 - I like the way the LH was changed up here vs the original! much smoother and more pleasing transition. Such masterful trill control in the first part of the final chorus too! 5:00 - pleasant original extended ending, making it feel like a classical concerto

@@minnie-piano3969 Well, I would say he does it intentionally. He wants to stick with the sheets he wrote I guess, that's why he also barely uses rubato in his arrangements. But in some concert performances you can see that he actually can / could do that. I wish he would also include that more often in his uploads. But that's really nitpicking, I think both covers sound incredible! PS: In this case, I must have to admit that James arrangement sounds indeed more unique, I also prefer it. But I think all this comparing is a bit unnecessary, let's just appreciate all artist's results instead of making piano covers competitive.
