An actual story about Animenz and Sincerely that I witnessed last year July 22nd, 2019, a few days after the tragic Kyoani accident, Animenz fan meeting was held in Guangzhou City, China. The fan meeting began with a very happy and exciting atmosphere because it was an awesome chance for us all to meet up with our favorite pianist. During Q & A session, most of the audiences asked normal questions about Animenz's musical experience, favorite anime, etc. However, suddenly a lady raised her hand, stood up from her seat in silence, and then started talking with crying: "The accident happened to Kyoani a few days ago was a disaster for all anime fans. We are really painful and sad after that. Animenz, would you like to play some Kyoani songs here?" After a moment's silence, Animenz said he would like to play some improvisations. The entire atmosphere has changed from happy to sorrow dramatically. Then, Animenz started to improvise a Kyoani medley. Fortunately, Sincerely was contained. I tried my best to hold my tears during this beautiful and fantastic moment. It was so moving and nostalgic. This medley also contained songs from Air, Clannad, etc. That moment was one of the most beautiful memories of my life. And thanks to Animenz, I was reminded of all the special feelings that Kyoani has brought to me. A few weeks later, I visited Japan, and I also visited the Kyoani studio which got burned. The entire building was enclosed. And I could clearly see that a beautiful yellow building has turned into a tragic brown and black building. After presenting flowers, I started to talk to the local policeman there. He got to know that I came from China, then he bowed to me, and said "Thanks for coming to Japan!" Tears came down of my face endlessly. That moment was one of the most painful moments that I have ever experienced. Even now, my eyes would be filled with tears whenever I think of that moment. After a year, at this memorial date. Animenz finally officially uploaded this arrangement. Thank you so much for being so kind to all anime fans. This accident remarks one of the darkest days in the anime world. But in this comment, I want to tell every anime fan that, please stand together and defend our community. We don't want anything like this to happen again. Rest in Peace, 36 victims. Thanks for all the masterpieces and beautiful memories that you have brought us. And thank you Animenz, for standing with us, for cheering us up, for making contributions to the anime world. We are always grateful.

"Watashi nande naiterun darou?" I'm not usually one to outright tear up when listening to music, but there's something about this particular performance that brought tears to my eyes. The soft entrance brought me chills, and then the moment the scale run cut in at 1:45, it brought over an entire wave of emotions that would not subside, the same way that the right hand unleashed a continuous stream of poignant notes at that point. I expected a normal chorus entrance, but instead I got an instant feels trip entrance ticket instead. It also brought back the same exact pattern as the pre-chorus section in the second OP portion of your Nagi no Asukara medley, one of my favorite arrangements by you, which further contributed to the wave of emotions Just like how several patterns and sections from your arrangements have stuck with me, 5:11 is one of those moments that will stick with me for a long time. The tremolo creates an atmosphere of tension that grows and grows until it releases and boils over as the chorus melody comes back in. I'm also working on a special Violet Evergarden medley at the moment, and have been struggling for a while with how I want the Sincerely Chorus to come out. Listening to this gave me a bit of clarity on the emotions I want to invoke and the musical picture I want to paint with that section. Thank you for continuously giving me inspirational moments like these to push me through my writing blocks. Indeed, your musical voice has reached and touched me and several others, and that means the world to me as well. See you next time! #PrayforKyoani

@Luke Su You have a good point, though what I'm really trying to get across is the emotional concept of still trying and not seeing things as just 'beyond me'. This piano arrangement is the most beautiful I have heard. On this day, exactly 1 year ago when I watched it streamed live, it captured me in its 5 bar cage and I knew I had to learn it for myself, nevermind that I was more or less a complete beginner. I could play simple songs but I wasn’t “good” in any means. That didn’t matter. I printed out a transcription and started. It took me many many months and so many hours of practice, sitting at that piano, but I am almost finished learning it. It’s the most difficult but flowing and wonderful interpretation of Violet Evergarden’s opening- the anime that started it all. I hope to no end that I can perform this in a way that does the notes on those pages the justice they deserve. It has taken me from a novice to a well seasoned pianist, and I have nobody to thank but you. From me and everyone else here, Thank you so much.

It was sincerely (pun not intended) one of the best arrangement you came up with imo. The detailed description helped me to understand a bit more clearly everything that was happening, and especially that incorporation of Violet's main theme as an additional melody: this is briliant. I am generally a huge fan of leitmotivs in music so this kind of attention is very interesting. The polyphony is very predominant and the RH seems to be perpetually flourishing with all these embelishments, runs and arpeggios. I still can't believe it's been a year since KyoAni tragedy happened, and I still don't realize it totally, but I think it is the best tribute someone could hope for. Bravo for this amazing arrangement. I really like this "non-conventional" and free direction you're taking, it makes your work more unpredictable, and it surprises everytime, even when knowing the original song.

Funny. I just finished watching this anime for the first time, despite it being released a long time ago. It... was so powerful, and beautiful. I cried 9 times. Thanks for the beautiful performance and memories, Animenz. #PrayForKyoani

This piece is beautiful, as was the anime. This anime never failed ti make me cry every episode…. Violet Evergarden was such a tortured, yet beauty soul. Despite horrific things she went through, she managed to pick herself up and move forward with grace and beauty.

It's good to come back here occasionally and remember scenes from Violet Evergarden...truly one of the best animes of all time

Just like a letter sailing in the wind, the notes of this arrangement have touched thousands. Thank you Animez, and thank you KyoAni. Glad to see after a year, you're both going strong
This is still one of the best animenz pieces of all time

As an anime fan, we all share the same sadness on that day and are probably still feeling the same even after all the tragic moments in 2020. I myself could not arrange a piece to carry my condolences and appreciation to Kyoani, thus thank you very much Animenz, for bringing to us this arrangement. I have been waiting for your version of Sincerely, and I am really surprised I can have this piece on the very same day after 1 year. Anime can heal, and so is music.
So beautiful. I remember sitting at my desk at work when I saw what was happening online. I almost burst into tears and immediately donated money to help the survivors and the affected families. What a lovely description for this piece, Animenz.

This left me speechless. I don’t think there is a word in the English language that can describe how beautiful this is. You’ve truly touched my heart, Animenz. #PrayForKyoani
