Hughie Thomasson said he was inspired to write this song at a party on the beach in Florida. He was standing at the water, with the ocean breeze blowing in on him, and it made him think of rock and roll stars who had died...Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, etc. As their songs went through his head, he imagined them playing a concert just for him there on the beach. The title often misleads people to think the song is a reference to marijuana because it contains the words "grass" and "high", but it's nothing of the sort. The title was taken from the Rolling Stones' compilation album "Big Hits (High tide and Green Grass)", and simply refers to how these dead stars will always be remembered for their contributions. One of the all-time great guitar jam songs.

Sort of like how people insist that Chicago's song "25 or 6 to 4" is a drug song. When you actually listen to the lyric, it's quite simple. The song is about a guy trying to finish a song (not this song) very early in the morning, either 3:24 or 3:25 and he's both tired and cannot sleep.

The pinnacle of Southern Rock. Just when you think the instrumental starting at 2:55 is awesome, it switches up even better at 3:55. and the whole song cranks to 11 at the end! I first heard this on a college roommate's good stereo while on my way to class. Needless to say I was 10 minutes late getting to it. I bought the 8-track of it for my car. One day heading to vacation in my brother in-laws old Bronco, I had the 8-track and played it. When it got to the 2nd solo, my sister asked if I did drugs while listening to it!!! GG&HT was their biggest hit but other more country like songs are on this album (Knoxville Girl, Water Hole, There Goes Another Love Song, etc) and they did a great cover of Ghost Riders in the Sky on another album.

Yes, I was the one who requested this and I told you, you would need a shower after this avalanche of guitar playing. Your interpretation of the lyrics I have not heard before from a reaction channel. I think you picked up on what the artist wanted to convey. The song was written as a dedication to the artists that came before him and wowed him with their performances and inspired his musical journey. Early greats of rock and roll like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and all the amazing artists from the Sixties mainly. I think you would like a lot of their other songs. They are not as long and still have great guitar, of course. Kind of like the early Eagles stuff only with more PUNCH. Great to see KSO is a MAJOR GUITAR FAN.

Every great Southern Rock band needs a guitar opus to finish off their concerts. Whipping Post, Freebird, Train Train, etc. This is the Outlaws version. It's pretty darn good.. Saw them live, back in the day, and they did a 24 minute version to end the show. They were one of the first bands to be known as The Guitar Army. Three guitars and a bassist, all at the front of the stage jamming. Nuts.

I mean, to me, this is among the greatest music to ever be created/played... I loved your reaction, as usual lol, I could tell that you really appreciated and enjoyed every second of it, as did I... 😲🤩🎸🤘 Having said that, what if I told you that it get's even Better, there is an Amazing Live performance on here (KZbin) that will Blow Your Mind, I mean if you loved this audio version, watching them do it Live, is all that much more satisfying, amazing, unbelievable, if you catch my drift... 😁👍 I've recommended this video on so many reaction channels and they almost Never react to the Live version, always settling for the audio version (which as you just heard, is amazing, obviously) and you'll only find I believe, two reactors that have reacted to the Live version, and believe me, they were happy that they did... I think the "issue" (which I don't take it to be) is that the live version is 23:27, which seems like a long time, but those 23 minutes absolutely fly by, and when it ends, you'll be ready for another 23...lol 💯 So, if you would, maybe, at least consider possibly reacting to it, but if not, at least do yourself the favor and take the time and watch it on your own, your Mind=Blown guaranteed... 😲🤩🎸🤘 😵🤘🤩😵🤘🤩😵🤘🤩😵🤘🤩😵🤘🤩😵 The Outlaws - Green Grass And High Tides - 11/10/1978 - Capitol Theatre (Official) Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnrEhJKsjq6ElaM ❗❗🥺🙏🥺🙏🥺🙏❗❗🥺🙏🥺🙏🥺🙏❗❗ ✌ and ❤
