In this video we clean up the C5 and inspect the chassis which has come back from the powder coater's. We put it back together, and replace the worn out mechanical parts (brakes, tyres etc) along the way. Notes on this video: the front tyre is on the wrong way around (the tread shows direction of travel). The side stripes should be folded back out of sight on the inside of the body shell to help prevent them peeling off. Please leave a question or comment below, or get in touch @retroworkshop on Twitter. If you spot any errors, let me know, as we already found some errors in the way it was put together when I bought it.

It would make an interesting exercise to restore but upgrading the C5, fiting, disk brakes, suspension front and back, seat padding maybe adding up to 8 inches in ride height and an Austin battery. The C5 would have amazing range, be comfortable and much safer, fit some powered gyros and it would be a lot more stable.

I think you can hide the scratches on the plastic by blasting them with a heat gun. Make sure to test on a hidden part of the plastic for the right temperature.

Fascinating video series mate. Remember these perking my interest as a kid in the 80's after seeing them on Tomorrows World. You've got a great presentation style too. Good job all round.

Hi. Great video thanks. May I ask where you got the Sinclair vehicles sign from. If you had it specially made do you have a link the the sign maker many thanks.

Very nicely done. The Teardown Guide will be useful for new Owners. Thank you for that. You put a lot of work into the C5. I´m sure you´ll have a great Time driving it. I enjoy every Minute on mine. One tiny flaw I noticed during the Assembly: It looks like you have the Front Tyre mounted Backwards. Easy fix.

Markus_B Thanks for your comment. I enjoyed a ride last week. I’m going to try a 7 mile commute before Christmas. You’re not the only one to spot the front tyre issue. I’ve added this to the video description.

If you email me via my website I will send you the logo. Any printer that can print on Foamex board can print it. The foamex was cut to size by the printer then I velcro’d it onto two battons that are screwed to the wall.

I put my trust in Cif 😉 Actually the polypropylene body shell is very resilient. I cif’ it, bleached it and used nail polish remover on the hub caps to remove paint. Other plastics tend to melt with nail polish remover.

Love the video … though I would still (selfishly) love a step by step rebuild video even though in theory it is the tear-Down in reverse . I must try and take lots of wee videos as I do mine. Though I can not see them being anything near as good as yours

Take a look at my website there is a tear down guide, step by step which may be of use, read in either direction!

You made yourself so much work, but the back brake system and the axle you didn´t clean?!? Rosty screws back on the brake?!? Bad Idea and move. Now, the rost can move slowly back to all parts, you put money and time in it!
@RetroWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
The small amount of rust on screws was removed. Some parts are tarnished but there’s nothing wrong with them.
