Sinead O'Connor 'Nothing Compares' Documentary Director Says 'She Was Ahead of Her TIme'

Sinéad O'Connor burst onto the music scene in the late 80s with her soulful voice but her controversial comments and shredding of Pope John Paul II's picture on live television forced her out of the limelight. In the NOTHING COMPARES #documentary, #director Kathryn Ferguson presents a different side to the Irish singer/songwriter, framing her as a trailblazer and perhaps the first spokesperson for the MeToo movement.

ALSO Miley Cyrus owes Sinead a HUGE apology. In their public exchange Sinead gave Miley sage advice and Miley reacted with immature mocking. Sinead responded again with maturity and a strong message that people should not be mocked for experiencing mental illness.

If Miley Cyrus, Rhianna, Byonce and Sinead O Connor were to sing individually, without the makeup, dancers, fancy costumes or flashing lights and special effects......Guess who would come out the absolute winner, in my opinion......Sinead O Connor, without a doubt. ❤

R.I.P. angel. You were a prophet. And prophets get stoned. You did not deserve the vitriol you received from Americans of the MAGA type - the war mongering Americans, the Redneck Americans, the backward Americans, not just the ugly American, but the stupid American. I applaud your courage and steadfastness. I applaud the support you received from Kris Kristofferson. I’m disgusted by the violent physical threats by so-called men like Joe Pesci and Frank Sinatra (real tough guys, smh) towards a slight, very young girl standing up against a world of violence. Sinéad O'Connor - nothing compares to you.

Americanism is a fanatical cult. The flag is treated as a sacramental. The national anthem is treated as a religious hymn. To get stupid americans to march along with all the atrocities we have continually committed throughout the world all you have to do is wave the flag, pound the chest, play the anthem, spew the propaganda lies, and stupid americans will march right into the war mongering and capitalist abuse. The religion of Americanism is one made up of fanaticism, fascism, blind obedience, jingoism, chauvinism, hatred of the other, hatred of people of color, and sheer redneck stupidity.

Nobody could conceive of a young woman NOT wanting to be a pop star, so it never occurred to anyone that someone wouldn’t be grateful to become “famous”. But when you’re given something you never wanted or asked for, thinking “No thanks, I don’t feel ok with that” is not wrong just because plenty of people would do the opposite. Sinead was an artist who wanted to express herself through writing songs and singing. Same thing with Kurt Cobain. The rejection of Sinead was a complete overreaction to misunderstanding her to begin with. She never sought wealth, fame, or to “entertain” the masses. She wouldn’t compromise who she was, and she was right.

Great interview, I loved Sinead from the first notes of her voice on KROQ back in the 80s. Had lion and cobra on cassette I'd play all the time. Even bigger fan post SNL. That this tiny girl from Dublin had and showed a world full of courage and strength, instant LEGEND status in my book. And the real type of LEGEND, like the old Irish Druids of Good who fought as hard as they could to keep Rome at bay. Maybe Sinead was an Old Irish Good Druid😊

Yes looking back on that incident when she was booed and shouted down like that by thousands of people and as you say the continued abuse and painting of her as this "crazy" woman,or troubled woman etc. Would love to see this documentary and yes where was Sineads apology by the church.I heard her say that actually she did not know the full extent of the sexual abuse in the church but had seen some newspaper articles seeing families who had been dismissed for trying to bring attention to it. She said in an interview I saw that she was just generally calling out the church and theocracy in Ireland that had everyone scared and under control. Also those laundries were not only a thing of the catholic church but they had them in England too and Cof E....not to mention all the women out into asylums due to unmarried pregnancies etc.

WOKE is a term that drifted out from Tinseltown and that's wearing very thin these days. It can mean idiots destroying valuable works of art or defacing buildings in their feeble attempts to highlight the woes of the oil industry and it's effects on planet earth. Woke can mean an overweight Sam Smith going on stage in SM gear that's biting into all his unsightly blubber and calling it art. Sinead shone a light on the cruel mistreatment and abuse, in every form, of women and children in Ireland at that hands of the church and state. An abuse that's so evil, it's psychological effects are still being passed on to future generations. Sinead made a difference, a start, bless her soul 🙏 but there's a long way to go.

True. I think it is celarly elites politic. They punished her since The incident on SNL 1992. She's banned on MTV & radios. only radio & MTV asia who still play her videos, so people in Asia still remember her as rock legend. Elites always use media networks to discredit their object & provoke haters as they did to Michael Jackson, Whitney, Monica seles etc. They also use paparazi to disturb Princess Diana since she dare to speak up & even divorced.

My spirit wants that she has realized that her homeland was truly inspired by her courage. She did it afraid. People call her brave, but I say that's their way of making themselves feel better about not heeding her call while she was still here to feel their support. She wasn't brave, she was badass and seriously courageous. Her brilliance with lyrics and music, and her boldness helped me in my 20s, and she was only 1 year younger than me. My heart hurts especially for her children today. She deserved better from all of us, and they should be able to put their arms around their Mum. ❤‍🩹

only in the last couple of years, have we seen those who endured and endure ab8se, speak out with a form of protection from the public, due to social media and the very quick outing that can be done... Sinead was an absolute champion, no matter any vulnerability - including her income being at risk if she spoke out against those with the most reach and influence - which certainly did occur... she helped so many choose to speak out when they certainly were not in a protected position to do so... Every influential person who turned their back on her when she would have benefited emotionally and professionally from their support - the weakest of human beings...

Women shave their hair all the time now. Back in the late 80s women were still about big hair. Roxerte was about as short as it got. A girl shaving her head was very much a statement and not everyone could pull it off. Sinead was as gorgeous as Natalie Portman, who also pulled it off some years later in V for Vandetta. They could have been sisters

I’m a huge Sinead fan, but as far as I remember, Sinead never came out at the time and said she destroyed the picture of the Pope specifically because of child sex abuse issues. She could have held a press conference or spoken directly to the media to clarify that she did it for that reason, but as far as I remember, that never actually happened (until much, much later and after the fact). I could be wrong, and if I am please let me know.

you are taking a huge risk - introducing fact into people's fantasy . There was absolutely ZERO inference of anything to do with child abuse - it is all ex post facto projection . I was watching that show when it happened - it was really more of an attempt at being shocking - provocative . The backlash was way over the top . I think she was very intelligent - I have a feeling she knew she could not handle the fame she had met - and so she sabotaged that part. Just my suspicion . She was a talented - tortured soul - clearly obviously borderline personality - I hope she finds peace now that she was never going to have in this life .

One thing I found incredibly disturbing and which speaks volumes to the toxic culture is both Pesci and Sinatra suggested physical violence against her rather than actually considering anything she was actually saying. And people laughed. They'd rather beat someone up than listen to what they have to say yet she was the one who had problems? Sick.

No need for "judgement," since the facts of this woman's life speak for themselves. She had four children by different fathers, only one of whom she married and she married three other men, none of whom were the fathers of her children. All in all, she was married and divorced four times. Three of her failed marriages lasted less than a year. She aborted at least one child. She lost custody of her daughter, Roisin, after a bitter, highly-publicised court battle with the child's father. in 2021, she revealed she’d spent six years in a psychiatric hospital. Her second son, Shane, whom she lost custody of in 2013, was put in care and became a drug addict and dealer before committing suicide, aged 17, in 2022. Her other son, Jake Reynolds, took out a restraining order against her after she took an overdose and threatened him and his father, O'Connor's ex-husband, John. The poor lad who killed himself was the only one who had lived with her long-term.

You seem to pass judgment on people who do not succeed in love, but try, have abortions or children out of wedlock, or have mental problems. Fortunately many of us don't. However it's painful that you do. Nothing takes away from her talent, her honesty, and her courage. She suffered greatly from all these facts, and especially from her young son's suicide. I feel empathy and admiration for her standing up despite all her problems. Peace.

Merci beaucoup for this film, and merci to Sinead for standing up to the church. Don't forget the church and it's financial ties, which I've been fighting since I live in a country just to the north of Italy know for it's secretive banking. But I'm also astounded at their influences on the world's media. Canada and it's Indigenous People had a similar experience since they found mass graves on boarding school grounds. Swiss TV used that to air a segment on their nightly news about Christopher Columbus and a forensic archaelogist trying to find his origins. And they made it out like different countries should have been proud to have produced a horrific genocidal maniac. The Swiss compared the importance of CC to Jesus Christ. I was offended and hoped that a Quebec tribe would have made a complaint since there is an Association of French speakling countries and their media. Maybe the Irish might want to look into the lies told by the Swiss.
