Perfecto!. Enhorabuena!

Mercurio is so obvious that a layman in music can guess his theme easily, it sounds so winged and hastened, playfull. Thats why i love it. Being obvious is not a dmerit or flaw, sometimes the simple approach is the best. Being "original" or "obvious" as people like to say today has nothing to do with BEING GOOD or BAD. It depends. I can inovate music in a way to fuck it up that nobody has ever thought, its bad, but NEW, idiots will say. Or i can keep to something more predictable and yet be awesome (John Williams bases his motifs in Holst, Stravinsky and Shostakovich, and yet nobody call it CLICHÊ).

BRAVO!!!!! This is the first time I have listened to this performance in about four years (I will be conducting the ORSO for a recording of this great work of Holst later this year, and wanted to hear some good performances of this while working on score preparation.) I once again wanted to stand up and shout BRAVO! This is a very difficult work to perform this well, especially in a live performance (In recordings, you can stitch good takes together and get a perfect performance.) I am only beginning to understand something one of my conducting mentors, The Romainian Maestro, Sergiu Celibidache said "Listening to a recording of a work is like going to bed with a photograph of Marilyn Monroe." I am planning on conducting a live performance of this late next year in an upcoming series "Koncerts for Kids" which will be FREE concerts for young persons and their families to be held in the NY/NJ/Philadelphia metro area, so I was so glad to see many young children in THIS audience. The goal of "Koncerts for Kids" (yet to be formally announced) is to get more young people interested in classical music in the way that another of my conducting mentors, Maestro Leonard Bernstein did in the 1960s. Again BRAVO to The Galician Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Maestro Dima Slobodeniouk for a spectacular emotion-filled performance.

I'm not sure you fully understood what Celibidache intended to convey, (although I suspect he would have modified his words if watching [rather than just listening to] a recorded performance). As to editing to get the best takes - this can also lead to sterility. The ideal, is capturing a really good performance, such as the one here, in one take. This way, the virility etc of the performance is intact. Of course this is rarely possible, but has happened on rare occasions. As you would know, sometimes it's better to retain a mistake (if not too obvious) in the interests of retaining the vitality at that moment. However, I wish you well and hope your performances, with your stamp on them, are, at least, as good as this.
@markemanuele1929
@markemanuele1929 2 жыл бұрын
@@bryangl1 Bryan, I appreciate your comments, and I agree that "stitching" together the best parts of recording "takes" can lead to a recording sounding sterile (although with today's techno;logy, it is much better than when maestro Celibidache was around.) He DID allow recordings of his performances; however, they were all or almost all of LIVE performances. I also agree that the video added to the live performances does add to the experience. Thank you for your kind wishes, and hopefully, these live "Koncerts for Kids" will be streamed on KZbin and archived so young people outside the NY/NJ/Phila. area can benefit from them.

@@markemanuele1929 Thank you, Mark, for taking the time to reply. It was a trifle impertinent of me to make that comment - it just spontaneously "happened" when I read your interesting response to this great performance (rather typical of this "undiscovered" orchestra and conductor). I have found that watching live performances in a home cinema situation has killed my CD library! You have the thrill (and vicissitudes) of conducting an orchestra, which is even better. Best wishes.

Follow this bravura performance with one of Colin Matthews' commissioned Pluto, the Renewer. (You can't out-Holst Holst but it was worth the try.) As for this video I'm very glad they showcased the percussion and massed sections, the woodwinds in particular. This suite takes everything a large orchestra can give, and then some.

One of my top 10 orchestral works, the imagery evoked of the planets is wonderfully majestic. The motif at 20:58 always make me think of Dvorak's New World Symphony which uses a near identical musical phrase. The many Jupiter themes (primarily from 21:00 - 25:45) to me are the most central to this symphonic beauty.

Is music the language of the soul? There is something more beautiful than listening to real experienced musician artists playing in unison one of the most beautiful pieces ever created A few months ago I had the great joy of listening to this piece in person at the music theater in the city of San Francisco California
