Program Notes:
Commissioned by Takanawadai HS Wind Orchestra in March, 2020.
A sinfonietta is a small scale symphony. This work consists of multiple main themes and developments. The introductory theme is by Trombone and Euphonium. The second theme is at measure 8 for upper woodwinds. These themes reappear in many forms throughout the song.
For instance the upbeat quintuplet at [M] came from theme two. This is my first melody as I began. Take time to play lyrically. The four beat triplet is an inversion of the first theme. Both themes appear at the beginning of phrases. It is easier to differentiate them by form rather than pitches.
At [E] timpani and winds are written as one ensemble. At the midway, play expressively.
In the latter part, the entire band will be led to the grand finale.
The subtitle was selected by the commissioning band. 2020 was very challenging for many musicians. Performing opportunities are rare, and uncertainties for the future are in everyday life. So the title came from their strong wish to have a brighter future.
