I love so many of your performances, but this one was definitely one of the best!

Echo Beach.....from a great Canadian band Martha and the Muffins. That would be a great song to play.

When this song hit in Australia, MTV hadn't begun yet (in late 1979), but I remember this song being played a lot on the free to air tv stations, every weekend "Sounds" with Donnie Sunderland (non stop music videos), three hours on a Saturday afternoon. and another similar (only in SA) show on Sundays ("Music Express" with Greg Clark??). Probably played on "Countdown" too. It was a fun song to sing at school, imitating the megaphone part with a rolled up newspaper and doing the ooh oohs (as year 7 schoolkids). Video Killed the Radio star was Number 1 for eight weeks in late 1979 in Australia. I was 12 (two years older than Darren) and music mad at the time. We loved the music videos, so didn't really understand the opposite message in the song. Living in Australia, (where at the time, international acts didn't often tour, or completely left off their world tours), the videos were our ONLY opportunity to see the artists, that we would never get to see any other way. Watch the original video on YT - you'll get "shiny metallic suits, oversized thick glasses, skinny ties" very quickly, for costume Inspo. Buggles was presenting like the scientist nerd trope of the time. Buggle's lead singer was the same singer Trevor Horn, who later went on to sing in Art of Noise and YES (eg Owner of a Lonely Heart). Trevor Horn is famous for producing so many other famous musical acts also SEAL, Malcolm McLaren, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones, Leann Rimes. What a talent.

"They took the credit for your second symphony Rewritten by machine on new technology And now I understand the problems you can see" Trevor Horn predicted A1 (happening now in i2024), back in 1979! I thought this was about performers (on radio, vs videos) but now I think he was writing about WHO composes music - people or machines.

You should consider doing 'Elstree' and 'Kid Dynamo' by The Buggles, which are songs from the same album as 'Video Killed The Radio Star'. They are great songs as well.

I think it’s pretty cool, and I hope I’ve got it true that the front man of the humble Buggles band is now the most prolific screen based composer of music alive, being Hans Zimmer! ??

Sports jacket, collar up, sleeves up and piano neck tie. Red tab Levis with checkered socks and deck shoes. And yes... I still have my Motley Crue Shout at the devil tshirt as well as Blondie first tour. Both garnishing little holes from hashish joints. Decadent 80s ya'll. hahaha

Yep used to hate it back in the day - too squeaky and non heavy rock. Funny how tastes and appreciation for once hated songs and artists change over time !!

Darren got a GR8 mix, for just being a keyboard player. We all know Bass players get it all best in the end tho! 🤣😂🤣
