Fantastic advice. Thank you so much. After even just a few minutes of practicing I can tell it's helping me reach high notes with better tone and less strain.

Why am I only learning this now?? Why does this have only 490 views?? Why is almost no vocal teacher talking about this? Some are even advocating the opposite - pressing the tongue down, thereby clogging the pharynx, preventing the formation of a closed resonance space back there and preventing a good lowering of the jaw and the larynx. My control of the parameters enabling a free and powerful singing the voice is pretty decent now, but I just realized how big the impact of the tongue position is and I've been doing it wrong all the time. Now I'm pretty excited what it will do for me once established as a habit.

Thank you, and I'm so glad it's helping! It's shocking that tongue position is so hotly debated in the classical voice world. High back of tongue keeps the tongue out of the pharynx (which dampens resonance and creates vocal tension)!

@@VoiceWithJulia Hi! I’m a bit confused now, I thought you said a high back of the tongue is necessary for the best and healthiest sound?

The tip of tongue is up or down?

The tip of the tongue is down, by the bottom teeth :)

So is the tongue suppose to stay off the soft palate while high in the back while singing with the tip of the tongue resting behind the teeth?

Your observations seem practical but Can't you do this by choice of vowel? For centuries that worked well. Why not now? (I suppose you would also have to know what a good sound is)
