@Sorry for party rocking well interesting opinion but what’s about the 5 ideas of the NS Ideologie: Racism, Antisemitism-Lebensraum, Volksgemeinschaft and Führerprinzip. All are pretty awful. What do you even consider National socialist? Do you just think about nationalism mixed with socialism? This would then be Nazbol as far as I remember. It is still antisemetic and the common meaning of nationalism is chauvinism and it has this meaning here too and Bolshevism ain’t that great either. But if you just think about the nationalism of the 19. century, what basically is mich stronger patriotism with a bit extra the socialism is still left as a not very nice thing. In any of this cases you would still necessarily sate it expicitly. As you just said national socialism, I can say full eager: Burn in Hell ! (If you aren’t brought to the light again) I hope you understand that when I say: „not that nice“ I mean terrible etc. everything else would not meet my intention.

Each time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes, especially the line "von die lippen springt ein fluch, geistert schnell die reih'n entlang". To me it describes hearing one of your mates cursing when getting hit, haunting the whole unit, while not being able to help or daring to look but having to push on. My deepest respect and compassion to all the brave men who lost their lives, their brothers, or their innocence in war, fighting for the men next to them.

@@paralusdivinprophetedupara8903 I'm not excusing every instance of German aggression I just think that saying Germany being the cause of the war being reason for the terms of Versailles is just unfair. Yes Germany did violate Belgium neutrality and their treatment of the French was less than favorable. Russia did get screwed over by their treaty but with the Tsardom gone a lot of the Russian imperial territories likely would've ceded regardless during the Russian civil war. Germany did do a lot of wrong during the war, everyone did such is the nature of war.

My grandpa was within the "green Devils", the 1.St. Fallschirmjägers in Montecassino....He always told me, that the only reason he survived (whithin 8.000 others), was, that he was the company benjamin; 17 yiars old, able to do over 10 climb ups (has a record in bavaria (alps) for climbing up alone (was climbed before, but not alone). They allways tried to send him back, getting mail, ammuniton...getting back, a couple of more Landsers where dead... The youngs where managed to get away with "Kübelwagen" not one had a drivers lincence....MY grandfather goat caught on bycicle, ridiing down a hill at the end of the village where all the italian partisans where smiling...at the end of the hill: four english tanks, They took his diary, with the proposal to hand it back, after there is nothing !Warimportant" (Kriegsentscheidend) in it....but never got it back...Imma still alive, i dont care about the everything, like i was told...

I love your work Karl, and I have been learning German for some time now. I can't help but notice the lack of nuance in your translation, however. The last company sings a hard song to march" This sounds weird to English speakers. I think a more accurate and nuanced translation to this sentence would be: "The last company marches to a song that's hard to sing" Danke Schon
