Loved the deep dive, as always! One interesting design difference between the Unicorn R1 and later versions: the R1 used the standard left-side tray mount port location (as opposed to the center port in later versions), so you could use different PCBs if you tray mounted instead of o-ring mounted. I've even seen one madlad put a Wooting60 in a Unicorn R1.

Really enjoying the content, congrats on procuring a Kohaku!! nothing but mad respect for Elaine’s commitment to QC and her customers! I’d love to get my hands on a Unikorn, as I’ve probably done 20-30+ different builds in my bakeneko (gotta love how easy it is to get my hands on different plates/pcbs), and can’t get enough of the gummy o ring sound / feel. Just got my hands on an Alas 60 extra, and must say I’m impressed by what a weight can do for the sound! Hope that Elaine and Singa continue to be successful in running more units of the Korn/Kohaku and whatever else interests her!

Great video as always! Well researched & well thought out, you're quickly becoming the go to guy for hobby history it's looking like. I've been around since late 2015, early 2016 & you still manage to pull some info out I was unaware of! I would love to see a deep dive on just keycaps if you get the chance. Like the origins of GBs for custom colorways, some info on the different manufacturers, etc. Anyways keep up the awesome work my friend!

I personally think the board is priced high at retail. SINGA is a business so there is technically nothing wrong pricing an item higher than what other companies charge for the same form factor. However, I do find it odd that Elaine won’t accept the fact she purposely is creating limited releases to generate hype and desire for her boards. I have voiced this opinion in her discord only to be met with her keyboard warriors lol. SINGA by now should have the funds and means to create a traditional GB for their desired boards. This obviously isn’t something that Elaine is after though as this would deprecate the value of her “limited” products. Her boards I’m sure are fantastic it’s just a shame it is something most of us will likely only experience at meetups. I don’t believe any custom keyboard even SINGA’s is worth what they go for in the aftermarket like 1-3K USD. I give huge props to Geon from Geonworks. He has really made strides to make his boards be obtainable to every enthusiast who would want one of his boards. For example, he recently ran a massive GB for the F1 8X V2. According to him he likely sold (across all vendors) over 2,000 units. I of course joined in as well. Why? Because of what he wants to do for the hobby, making high end boards accessible to everyone.

_SINGA is a business so there is technically nothing wrong pricing an item higher than what other companies charge for the same form factor._ Are you simply comparing kohaku price with other keyboards with same form factors (65%)? With this logic kohaku price should be same as ducky SF.
@bosenngantor9160
@bosenngantor9160 6 ай бұрын
you just stupidly comparing Kohaku's aftermarket price with F1 8x v2's GB price...like what the hell of comparison. F1 is also sold at ridiculously high price if you talk aftermarket. I also bought F1 aftermarket (though I got it quite "reasonable" price from the community). But, in general, I don't think we should over criticized the way they produced their product, whatever it is, raffle...GB...PO, etc. People may said raffle is just a way of keep custom keyboard "exclusive", but if you won the raffle, you will got the best price anyway. So, you hate Kohaku that price 1K...3K ? just don't buy things aftermarket, simple.

I have always been under the impression from their team’s statements that newer vendor-backed projects were specifically funding refunds and I for one wanted to see Gehirn do well to see the number of refunds issued increase. If as time goes on, this is proved not to be the case i would be the first person to admit I supported the wrong person! I would also like to say, I don’t condone recent screenshots shared from his part - and think that’s all the more reason it’s good he has a manager overseeing past projects now

I can completely understand that, but I have to admit I have not been under the impression that people wanted me to address the situation until your comment As with everyone else this is a hobby for me, and I’ve gotta say (as you can see by my embarrassingly poor upload schedule the past few months) I haven’t been as engaged with what’s been going on as I much as I would have liked to be. I am keeping a close eye on the progress with refund updates etc currently and will be the first to admit if events turn for the worst and I had supported the wrong person Would also like to say recent messages etc sent from Baion I do not agree with, and I don’t think it was handled in the way that it should have been on his part

The fact that singakbd doesn’t prevent the same people from winning multiple raffles makes me support clones like Kalam (support as in consider purchasing and recommending to others, not morally). I see way too many people winning a unicorn from every run and flipping it on the market. Yes cloning is unethical but at this point they’re kinda asking for it
@Alsry1
@Alsry1 6 ай бұрын
What reason would they have to prevent someone from getting lucky? This is like saying lottery winners shouldn't be allowed to enter again. Also, they do prevent winners from winning more, during the unikorn raffles, if you won in the first batch you couldn't win in the second batch.

I'd buy a singa raffle keyboard at raffle prices if it were possible, but the only way to get one is to pay aftermarket scalper prices, which don't even support singa in the first place. So buying a clone doesn't hurt singa too much when you can't buy one from them in the first place
