The economy class you had on singapore airlines is The short haul economy. It's even better on The long haul version: same for business class

I agree! I wouldn’t compare SIA’s short haul flight to United’s long haul. SIA is way superior than United’s. I’ve flown United’s first class and it sucks!
@Studders012 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the flights but can’t really compare the two. The Singapore flight you chose was short haul and on a narrow body plane (737 8 Max), whilst the United one was on a long haul wide body plane (looks like a 777). If I was to choose the flight out of Singapore back to US then would be Singapore hands down. Their long haul product is great. I have flown many times in their economy cabin, ranging back to the 747-200 Big Top (when I was a kid). They have never let us down travelling from Manchester UK to Singapore and back. I have flown premium economy once with them, again from Manchester to Singapore in the 777-300ER and that was very enjoyable too. I always enjoy flying the Asian and Middle Eastern carriers due to the food and hospitality.

@@AlwaysBeChanging Singapore is definitely worth trying on long haul but NEVER out of US. From the many vids I have seen, the food is not satisfactory flying out of US on Singapore. Going from Singapore however it is catered for the Asia food market and the flavours and dishes are better.

This is a refurbished plane previously owned by Silk Air. SIA never fly on a narrow body. I am surprised the seat's padding looks thin! Is it because it is a regional one? I also feel SIA's Airbus long haul has more padding.

I used to fly to the U.S. about once a year. I have flown both Singapore Airlines and United on economy and business class. Singapore Airlines is by far the better airline, especially the quality of service. Singapore Airlines have always been voted as a top ranked airline in the world. Neither United nor any other U.S. airlines are ranked anywhere closed to Singapore Airlines.

I typically don't fly in the higher classes these days. However, I have flown both United and Singapore business and economy on numerous occasions for both professional and personal reasons. I've been with Mileage Plus for about 40 years and can attest that United has definitely declined over the years. Particularly with cabin crew attitude and courtesy. United is just more convenient for my domestic routes. For international travel, Singapore has always been at least a cut above. My nod goes firmly to Singapore Airline. Many thanks for your video on this subject.

Singapore Airlines metal flying to Cebu are from converted planes from Singapore's wholly owned subsidiary, Silk Air. Silk Air uses single aisle planes and flies to "smaller" Asian cities with thinner traffic. In 2020 or 2021, Silk Air was merged to Singapore Airlines and Silk Air's single aisle planes were refurbished to be similar to the interiors of its widebodies. Singapore Airlines uses 787s and A350s on their regional flights to "bigger" Asian cities like Manila, Hongkong, Bangkok, Jakarta, Tokyo, etc. I suggest you try flying their widebodies next time. Singapore Airlines (SQ) has a 5 star airline rating (Qatar, Asiana, Cathay Pacific, etc).

Singapore Airlines is probably one of the best airlines I've flown. You could have also tried Philippine Airlines non stop flight to San Francisco. You will love Thailand and Vietnam and get ready to have a bigger wallet because its cheap and delicious. English is just a concern especially for the former. When you comeback in January please arrive via the new Clark airport. Just like the Cebu airport it was made by the same company that had ties with Singapore airport

@Rising Son....Actually, not quite right. MCIA is operated by GMCAC, a consortium between Megawide (Philippine company) and GMR from India. GMCAC stands for GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. Clark International Airport, on the other hand, is managed by a consortium of 3 local companies and a foreign company, Changi Airports Philippines, in turn, a subsidiary of Changi Airports Singapore. GMR also operates international airports in India (Delhi, Hyderabad and Goa) and Greece. By 2024, both Megawide and GMR will no longer be involved in MCIA after they recently sold all their shares to Aboitiz InfraCapital, a Cebu-based corporation.

On international flights where they require everyone to wear facemasks I like to put the headphones on and then put the elastic around the headphones so that it doesn't make my ears sore and it's almost like I'm not wearing anything covering my face. I remember the last time that I flew on PAL from Manila to Los Angeles and as soon as we took off I put a movie on and the next thing that I remembered the movie was over. I was glad that I had a window seat so that I could rest my head against it. Most of the time I don't sleep very much when I fly but that time I probably had about 8 hours of sleep because I was just so tired. Thankfully it' is only about an hour drive from LAX to Anaheim. March 24th we are going back to the Philippines and I am excited to be going back again after leaving on October 10, 2020 during the crazy pandemic.

Took UAL from SFO to Beijing a few years ago. Never again. Terrible food, terrible service. Since then, we’ve been on the following (economy/premium paying, business with points) Sing: Economy was decent, but not really comfortable, but then what economy class is? Great service. PE was quite comfortable, despite being sick, but, man, that’s a looooong flight. Business class was quite nice. EVA: Again, decent economy class, but it’s economy. Great service again. Business, particularly out of SFO is stellar and, in our minds, beats Sing. ANA: Economy was slightly better as more seat pitch. Food in economy was very good. PE was really nice. Actually got a decent amount of sleep boys SFO-HND and again on HND-SIN. Business is also excellent. JAL: Our favorite in each class. Economy has 34” pitch, which helps a lot. PE has a whopping 42” pitch and Business, while it’s configured oddly on the 777’s, is still really comfortable. Currently in KL, with a return to Sing tomorrow on Scoot. Thank God it’s only an hour. Then off to BKK for two weeks (on Thai Air (first time in economy, but Business was comfortable. Then back to SIN, staying at the Crowne Plaza because our return flight on ANA (PE) leaves at 630AM…..ugh.

In Calif. the plane was already 3 hours late, getting ready to board, my tools were found by a scanner. OH you can't take these on, you might try to dismantle the plane. Remember this is 42 years ago. Next story, same airline - heading home to the U.S. , we have a couple of the fancy blinking Christmas lights and wanted to put them in the overhead compartment. OH, you can't do that, why you might unwrap them ( in the isle ) and use the cord to try to strangle some one. ??????? True Story - Where have I heard the phrase - oh yes Biden

That’s crazy to believe how much security measures and threats have changed. I (Erin) grew up a competitive ice skater. In fact, Tara Lipinski is my best friend since 12yo. We used to constantly travel all over (this was before 9/11) and we constantly had to beg the TSA security to let us carry on her skates. Most of the time they would let us after a supervisor stepped in. But sometimes they would escort her skate bag to the plane and they’d agree to put it in the cockpit until we landed. But of course 9/11 changed everything.

@@AlwaysBeChanging Husband speaking, I'm impressed for sure. Your skates did have very sharp blades, maybe they thought you would ( as a young girl ) take them out of the case and walk up the isle cutting folks. Very dumb then, today not so much. Another quick story, From Cebu we flew to Guam to visit a friend. Trying to leave, the airline clerk didn't want me to get on going back to Cebu with out proof that I had a ticket back to the U.S. When we got our ticket to Guam in Cebu, that clerk didn't mention that maybe I should take my return ticket to Seattle. Took a supervisor to let me on. more dumb

Singapore airlines, Emirates and Qatar airlines wins hands down. I love Singapore Airlines Business class and first class suites. The first class suites is awesome. Sadly they don’t use A380 for flights to USA
@desireones2 жыл бұрын
Nice comparison video. But I wouldn’t compare Singapore Airlines Short Haul Economy Class to United Airlines Long Haul. The Singapore Airlines flight you took is a 737Max, ie a narrow body aircraft, used solely for short haul. Fun fact, it is one of the few, if not only airline that offers flat bed and throne seats ie 1-1 configuration in a short haul flight. Perhaps, next time you should try Singapore Airlines A350 Premium Economy seat from JFK and compare it to United Airlines Premium Economy in this video. It’s the world’s longest flight, probably good content for KZbin! If we really want to compare Singapore’s Short Haul flight, that would be to compare it against United Airlines domestic flights. I have taken domestic flights with United Airlines. To be honest, it’s quite horrible. The best domestic I feel are Alaskan and JetBlue.

Hope you guys can do an airline review for Philippine airlines, but international. Like LAX-MNL! Whenever you choose to go back!
@AlwaysBeChanging2 жыл бұрын
That would be great. Didn’t realize Philippine airlines was nonstop from LAX 👍🏻
@icesadi75892 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBeChanging PAL flights are non stop to Philippines from LAX & SFO since there are big filipino communities there and those flights don't fly over US airspace (well don't fly beyond California airspace) since there are regulations for that . But I dunno if the miles are interchangeable with other airlines. Unlike cathay CX/singa/JAL/UA who are part of star alliance and therefore you can use their miles interchangeably.

Most of spore airline short haul flight do not have premium economy and are on narrow body 737-800 or max. Comparing long haul UA product over short haul SQ isnt really apple to apple. You should try SQ long haul on their wide body

I booked my flight with miles through United to Singapore with layover London with United then I do fly Singapore Air to Singapore. I’m definitely loyal to United I strayed for a bit got a different credit card that gives me a bit more miles but as I tried to use for a fight end of January it sails I had to wait for the next year to see 2023 flights. Not worth it at all. I’m back at only United.

Good to know 👍🏻 The only routs we see from Denver are flying the other direction. We’ve looked into other loyalty programs and United seemed like the clear choice for us.

I’m sorry, but in order to do a fair comparison you need to do it with the same product. Both SQ and UA do the San Francisco route, so you should have compared the economy class or against each other (or premium vs premium). Also, your SQ flight was a regional product (737 Max), not on their long haul A350. Try next time to fly to Singapore on SQ and back on UA and you will conclude that SQ is best against any US or European carrier. BTW, if you are Star Alliance Gold, which I assume you are, you can visit any Star Alliance lounge in the world even if traveling coach. Cheers!
@AlwaysBeChanging2 жыл бұрын
That was our route home and we took the opportunity to share what we experienced. We can compare any economy or business airline to United since that's who we fly with most of the time. But we're not going to pay for extra flights and fly back and forth. That was our route home and we used it to compare the two the best we could. We did conclude that Singapore is the better airline, we also explained that we don't have SQ as an option domestically in the US. We are fans of loyalty programs and United has provided us with the best one in the US. We're grateful when we get the opportunity to experience other airlines like SQ. Thanks for the Star Alliance tip!
@tomasavila45912 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBeChanging I fly UA too, best among the Big Three. But the title and concept of the video was a bit unfair. Your comparison was of a SQ short-haul flight vs UA long-haul flight. I was actually waiting for a fair comparison as I usually fly United to Singapore on that route on Premium, and recently did it on Singapore also Premium and it was way, way superior. In each case the longest flight in the world. Cheers!

Laundry! Althoooough, since you were in the Philippines, laundromats in the Philippines are cheap, and like when my sister leaves for the US she goes to the laundromat and has all the clothes laundered and folded and its by weight so for a family of four with two toddlers, 250 pesos so around 5 usd. So that when she reaches hime she just puts the clothes into closets. But it takes like three days XD

there is no comparing SQ to united ... it's like comparing a new modern car with one from the 90s (and i won't be surprised if this describes the difference in ages of the aircraft as well). also, you cant ever compare food out of the us with any country. it is always going to be crappier. also i think the no.1 airport in the world is in doha. or perhaps they are citing different sources.
