I am a Singaporean and completely love living here. It has nature integrated into the surroundings, it's really beautiful. I live right beside a park and love glazing at it from my living room window everyday, it makes me feel so relaxed.

That's absolutely amazing. Especially all the cool footpaths that go above into the canopy where they plan on expanding the existing 200 km network to like 300. I'd really love to live in a city like that, especially one as safe as Singapore. Problem is that you really can''t do that here in Europe because everything dies in winter. You'd have to have nothing but evergreens, or in an enclosed space like our local hospital which has an atrium just like the hospital in the middle of the video, but like I said, it's enclosed.

im a biophilic person (I guess all of us are) and I love seeing lots of plants, plants help me feel relaxed and at ease whenever im stressed out.. singapore has done a very good job in promoting green spaces, I also live in a tropical country and would looove to replicate the singaporean model

i remember the story I heard as a child of how our then PM Lee and founding father of modern Singapore came up with the idea of "Garden city". while on a flight back from over seas, he looked out the window of the plane and saw nothing but grey as the plane was about to land. feeling disappointed with what has happen to the country in the name of progress, he decides to do something about it and idea of a garden city and the greening of Singapore began. ;)

All Singapore is smart, hard working. I men's all in generally. But no one can't deny, the smart and passion leader is the KEY. He's out-standing, his passion love for his ow people & his country is too much, that's why he can make it. Back in past, when ppl think Mr.Lee is too harsh, he have very strict laws, but it's the one & only way to make all people come to working together to build such beautiful & succesful country as SINGAPORE TODAY! If it not by Mr.Lee-the leader, I don't think they can grow up so amazing fast like this. I think anybody who have heart, brain or at least decent education, no matter if they're Malaysian-Sing, Chinese-Sing or Indian-Sing,etc..must be very happy, grateful, thankful & respect for their truely great leader. Many good, smart ppl but without right leader or right laws, it's won't go no where. Look, how Obama or Agenla Merkels, Mexico,etc..they're very smart & create people, but with wrong gorvenment, wrong laws, wrong leader. It's all waste.

South Korean, Japan is another amazing example too. Some ppl say if without USA or Western help,etc..they can't grow up like what they have today. I agrees, they do get help but if just the help form outside it not make big different if themselves not working for it, if they're not pushing for their own people & their own country. Just in something around 50-70year after the war till now, see what they done?! South Korean was one of most poorest country in the world, don't have any natural resource, they're poorer more than Africa-where have rich natural source. Don't even have enough food to feed themselves, the size of country is tiny!!! But with working together for their own race, with right laws & right leader. See, what they done to have today. Maybe not being perfect but it's still great after all, it's really inspirit. After 2Atomic bomb, Japan start from 0 to hero. No matter what ppl think or say, not much country can do like that. It's impressing.

I'm wondering how can they manage to put that plants all over the walls and under the corridors at 11:15 I mean, the plants need space for their roots to keep growing and how they keep on nurturing that plants. I am now just started studying biophilic design, and this concept very compelling:)

Congrats to all. This is spectacular. Is there a how-to manual? I suspect Singapore may have the most bird species per km2 of any country, given its small size, connection to SE Asia mainland, proximity to Indonesia ... and and now I see the amount of greenery in the city. I would like to suggest you feed the vertical gardens with greywater and potentially human urine, while processing feces in Urine-diverting Dry Toilets (inodoroseco blogspot). It would also be great for some of the plants to provide edible, medicinal or culinary plants. In this way, the plants would not just be beautiful, but would play a key function of cleaning the city and feeding the people. Let me know if I can help.

You mean Perth, Australia? How dry & hot in summer in there? Btw, your country is so big, have evrything natural resources. I still perfect garden green in natural way on land, if it possible. But this is the best way, amazing technology, very create for small country, don't have any resource or land. I mean that, it's amazing for Singapore or any big dynamic city. Singapore, the country size just same as a small city!!! That's why ppl need to update technology to protect & save themselves. Btw, it's beautiful country, smart & hard working ppl. I wish more big city around Asian or all the world adop this, not just make clean the air, helping conditional air by natural way but also very beautiful green garden to views.

Late reply, but there's really no need to look for an "eco-focused" tour per se. Just fly to Singapore for a week or two, and explore as you go. The whole country is really a city state no larger than Greater London, with most "eco-tourism spots" (if you can call them that) easily accessible by public transport.

12:48 “on level 9 actually a bird nest with a little baby was discovered”. well, it’s all good looking but still synthetic. Many birds need insects to feed the chicks and insects are fogged in Singapore. My friend in Austria has a small house with one overgrown façade ca. 200m2, but 15 bird nests.

Singapore government set aside a sizeable sum of money for the garden up keeping. In fact it has a separate agency to maintain its parks and gardens, called the NPark.

In Japan I once saw a swallow's nest outside a row of shops. Not only did they leave the nest there, the shop owners placed paper daily on the ground under the nest to catch the bird droppings.

Actually urban forestry improves the temperature buffering and air quality for poor people who are affected most. It prevents flood damage and increases carbon sequestration to reduce natural disaster effects on the poor.

Singapore is far from being ecological or sustainable , as it cannot produce staple crops for food , has to use oil and gas to produce/retreat water , and is extremely overpopulated . It looks green but is not ecological and is an artificial environment. It also burns most of its waste , recycling is minimal , and it imports massive quantities of sand and cement for buildings which are responsible for ecological destruction across SE Asia . Also there is massive air pollution of all types near the expressways which the government ignores . Singapore is very young , we will see what it looks like when it has the age of most cities of the world .
