Mostly Singapore MRT in 1991, with a little of the former Sentosa Monorail as well.

@SGRevolution2011 I am amazed at how so many comments to this video complain about people who (I assume) are not from Singapore - even though Singapore is a multicultural society where peoples of many different racial and religious backgrounds live together in peace. If this is how humans treat their fellow humans, so what happens when we start meeting people who are not from around here?

If you still check video responses...what many Singaporeans are unhappy about (not me. my job industry is relatively unaffected) were the very relaxed employment pass requirements. It was rare to get an employment pass application rejected. That says a lot (used to submit applications for my company). Many of them demand lower salaries so naturally wages for locals in similar capacities were depressed. Also, heightened demand have raised housing prices and well....reduced empty seats on MRTs. =)

@kenogihebe Whilst there were no mobile phones we did have music players - typically these allowed us to listen to the radio and play compact cassettes. Most of these had small speakers built in, although listening using headphones was usually also possible. The most well known brand was the Sony Walkman.

@mailerdiablo In London every inch / cm of virtually every station can be seen by one or more CCTV cameras. Many trains have cameras inside them as well. The cameras also use facial recognition and movement detection softwares to try and see if someone is spending too long at one spot. Tourists can use cameras but only if 'passing through'. To stop and film you often need permission from the station supervisor (depending on which railway company controls the station). George Orwell RIP

@blizzaroxx to my eyes we are all human, no matter from which part of the planet one originates. If all nations offered their people decent standards of living then few people would feel a need to travel away from their place of birth simply to be able to afford to live. Working overseas for education / as part of a 'grand tour' visiting different area around the planet is a different issue.

@kenogihebe 'scolded'? Did you mean 'told off?' In some countries the local police and transport officials will stop people from filming at stations. But this did not happen (to me) in Singapore. It has happened in London, nowadays they normally allow tourists to use small hand held cameras. But you will get in trouble if you use a flashgun on the underground. btw,if stopped no-one - not even the police - can tell you to delete any images. That is illegal.

So it seems. But I do understand what war is, and mass killing. It would be a real shame to see dislike of others simply because of them "not being one of us" resulting in the horrors of armed conflict. I also understand what civil war is & would be very sad to see the various ethnic groups who make up Singapore fighting in this way. This is what a dislike of foreigners can lead to. All humans are one family; we have enough challenges with coming geophysical events - without war as well

@mailerdiablo democracies can be like that too. The government legislation for the building of a tram system in London's southern suburbs includes a ban on anyone (except the press) taking photos on the station platforms. However since so much of the system is on the street there is nothing to stop you taking photos from 'nearby'. In part this might be because we are at war, albeit with those in power at war against ordinary people - if you've seen about the 'occupy' protests (see part 2)

How to cover cost with this kind of ridership in the long run. Sure mati. In Tokyo, for example, they need ex-somos to push and pack commuters like sardines during peak hours. The price of urbanisation is some discomfort during the peak hours. Oh . . . check out KL's monorail during the peak hours as well. We need to travel and see reality.

Hey Simon Nice video... Seems like a dream, sometimes wondered if I imagined this country was less crowded way back when. Don't take it personal, there are many Singaporeans who are discontent yet are unable to rationalise why. I personally have no issue with foreigners, in fact many of my friends were not born here. What I take issue with is the use of the word "foreign talent" and low birth rates to justify bringing more in. Our overpaid government's flawed policy did this, not you.

(part 2)... in most western nations (especially USA) you may understand part of whats going on. The powerful are frightened of ordinary people, because now we are almost at 2012 'it is time'. Did you know that 100 years ago Nikola Tesla demonstrated a system of getting free electricity? A small box powers your house without any bills! Dont try to do this yourself, as you WILL be killed. The oil and other energy companies dont want people to use this, as they will go bankrupt.

The methods are different but the aim is the same. Instead of being full of nutrients the food is poisoned, additives, chemicals, colourings, artifical sweeteners, etc. People are dumbed down. The Internet is your friend. Poverty in western nations is at an all time high. Soon will be worse than the 1930's.

Lots of people come here from former Soviet controlled European nations, Africa & the Indian subcontinent. Also, many jobs such as telephone call centres now use people who live in countries such as India. So what happens when we start meeting people who are not human / not from this planet?

+Garuda Corona It was easier to film in 1991, as I understand that new rules have been introduced and if a member of staff sees someone using a camera they will tell you to stop filming. However I think that some people do not let that worry them and still like to film the trains. I would expect the MRT to have surveillance cameras everywhere and it could be said that if the MRT can use its cameras to film the passengers then the passengers should be able to use their cameras to film the trains!
