2024 and the Comeng are still the most reliable train on the network. Xtraps worse suspension and rougher ride, seimens worse seats and had plenty of issues. The HCMT's are very good, but the Comeng were the first air-conditioned sets, big windows, arm easily rests on the sills. I'd argue they are the best trains Melbourne has ever had. Love riding them. Push button doors would have been nice but what do you do? Hope they get preserved when they leave service. Hope the Xtrap 2.0 is better than the first xcraps

Windows and seats line up properly. Rare these days. So why can’t that be managed today? Also a view of the line ahead makes for a pleasing atmosphere

At least we have No. 5034 preserved at the London Transport Museum’s Acton depot. The stock survived in engineering use as a Rail Adhesion Train until March 2018, when it too was scrapped, giving the stock a total life of 57 years. However, on the night of May 24, 2018, was the final time an A stock unit ran under its own power on the London Underground network. Set 5234/6234/6235/5235 worked train 710 from Neasden Depot to Ealing Common Depot. The set was subsequently removed from the adjacent London Transport Museum depot at Acton Town by road for disposal on July 17 and 18, 2018. R.I.P A Stock June 12, 1961 - September 26, 2012.

5:04 Why did the train skipped the station?
@CitytransportInfoplus
@CitytransportInfoplus 7 күн бұрын
Some of the footage dates from a Sunday when the station was closed and there was an 'emergency exercise' .... the trains were passing through without stopping. In those days this part of London was much quieter on Sundays.

I've deduced that the 1990s footage was likely taken on 19 July 1990 as a Flickr image shows the unusual steam loco rake passing through Harrow that Sunday (22 July).

Growing up in the 80s and early 90s in Oxford (well Cowley) myself and a few mates would often go down the station on our bikes trying to go down the stairs there (often chased off by the station manager) but never recalled seeing any trains older than the 165 and 166, but noticed an older slam door dmu on the bay platform that would serve Bicester on this video. Nice.

Yes, many people would agree with you. I most certainly do and even suggested this to some people who work on the Central line. I suggested using these trains as heritage trains to bring in extra income in the summer! I was told that it is not possible because London Underground Ltd welded the doors closed on the 1959/62 trains used as Rail Adhesion Trains

The bombardier’s were pretty much still brand-new in 1998 at only 3-5 years old. When the first 18s debuted into passenger service in 1993, they proved to have an amazing design and beat out the one of the pullman standard’s. The 01700s were only 9-11 years old. The 015 and 01600s were 29 years old in 1998 and 4 years past their expected retirement date.

A60 Stock is my top favorite type in Metropolitan Line, I believe two cars is preserved which is 5034+6110. Couldn't they revived few cars? I wish 4 cars or 8 cars could survive into preservation for heritage services like 1938 Tube Stock...
@CitytransportInfoplus

The problem with the A stock is that they had asbestos. As long as the bodywork remained intact there was no safety risk but it was feared that if sold off to preservation societies someone would one day drill a hole in their metal skin .. and allow the asbestos to come out - in the process creating a severe health hazard. This is tragic, as a working four car unit in preservation would have been loved by everyone.
