The seats in those old buses. So narrow. People must have been so much smaller then. Don't forget. No spitting upstairs

As a little kid on the 46 London tram (Woolwich-Southwark), I remember a sign upstairs at the front: “DO NOT SPIT” I admit, I hadn’t though to doing so.
@johnjephcote76364 күн бұрын
Sadly, the early idea of replacing London's trams with trolleybuses meant that no consideration was given to (as on the Continent) of providing reserved tracks and kerbside loading or even central road loading on reservations. There was no law to require motorists to stop and allow boarding of trams in the centre of the road. The Kingsway Subway and a very few examples of safe boarding areas, as at Victoria, were implemented. Post-war, with the trolleys , ten years after the trams giving way to diesel 'buses London lost a potential surface system that other cities developed, especially abroad. We could do with more cross-river routes than the second generation tramcars we now have.

The conduit system has definitely been restored, although not wired in since there's nowhere to use it nowadays. Full on recreation as it was removed in Leeds, but with an original plough (I think)

Most people associate this voice as Oswald Laurence, but upon reading some online material it transpires that the Mind the Gap announcements were done by Peter Lodge, a sound technician who worked for the Underground. It's said that after recording his announcements, Oswald expected to be paid royalties every time MTG was played, which would've been dear for the Underground's budget. As a result, they re-recorded it with Peter's imitation of Oswald, who wasn't told that his voice would be used. As a result, the famous "Mind the Gap" voice at Embankment on the Northern line is Peter Lodge, not Oswald Laurence.

I fhlly expected the pan to be on the bus and raise up train style. This is an unusual arrangement, it'd be interesting to know why this version was chosen.
@CitytransportInfoplus5 күн бұрын
Not having the pan on the bus reduces weight (of the bus) and saves money because far fewer pantographs are required. There is a different (commercial rival) bus charging system from a company named Schunk which does have the pantograph on the bus.

I loved the D stock trains, only started riding them on my first trip to London since 2011, including the C stock. Shame there was an opportunity for me to ride the A stock but I never did, due to not thinking of doing so. Really can hear the motor sounds give away the nostalgia. Today all you see is boring S stocks, where their motor sounds are soo terrible and no variety of rollingstock to see of A, C and D stocks

Now the current year is 2024. I honestly remember the class 47 loco 😝 😜 🤪 hauled trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 that previously ran between Exeter St Davids and London Waterloo via Exeter Central, Honiton, Axminster, Crewkerne, Yeovil Junction, Gillingham Dorset, Salisbury, Andover, Basingstoke and Woking until 1993 when they weee previously replaced by class 158s and 159s is because they are more comfortable. At present 💝, it’s called SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 that has replaced its previous franchise SWT - South West Trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 is dated back in 2017 is now 7 previous years ago. Train 🚂 🚊 🚆 company SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 has comfortable seats 💺, first class accommodation, luggage 🧳 rack, rectangle windows 🪟, automatic operating doors 🚪, no smoking 🚭 accommodation is because it’s prohibited 🚫 on all trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 , buses 🚍 🚌 🚎, trams 🚈 🚃 🚊 , ferries ⛴️, boats 🛥️ 🛶 🚤 , railway 🚃 stations 🚉 , cable cars 🚠 🚡 , enclosed public places and inside the buildings around the world 🗺️ 🌏 🌍 🌎 , bins 🗑️ 🚮 provided, air conditioning, a carpet, toilets 🚻 🚽 🚾 , gangway throughout and are second generation DMU - Diesel ⛽️ Multiple Unit trains 🚂 🚊 🚆. On the railway 🚃 track 🛤️ , it’s been a single track 🛤️ since around June in the definite year 1967 for almost 😅 60 years is under 9 previous years before I was born. It’s probably very sad 😔 😞 😢 that a single railway 🚃 track 🛤️ happens is because it’s a long distance train 🚊 🚆 🚂 service. It’s been privatised since bank 🏦 holiday Monday 1st 🥇 January 1996 (New Year’s Day) 🎉 🥳 🎈 for over 28 years that had previously replaced the BR - British 🇬🇧 Rail 🚆 🚃 and it’s a pain in the neck. At the date 📅 📆 is around hopefully 🤞 🙏 is Thursday 3rd 🥉 May 2029 in under five 5️⃣ years time 🕰️ , if Labour wins its election 🗳️, it will return back to BR - British 🇬🇧 Rail 🚆 🚃 which its good 👍 😌 😊. If train 🚂 🚊 🚆 company SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 loses its franchise in around 2025 and is founded to be replaced by an alternative train 🚂 🚊 🚆 operator, it could be called GWR - Great Western Railway 🚃. By 2040, all DMU - Diesel ⛽️ Multiple Unit trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 will be removed in England 🏴 , Wales 🏴 and finally Scotland 🏴 and replaced by EMU - Electric ⚡️ Multiple Unit trains 🚂 🚊 🚆. SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 runs its services everyday including public holidays except Christmas 🎄🎅 🤶 🧑🎄 Day and Boxing 🥊 Day. 👍

Hello, thanks for watching and commenting - not the Epping - Ongar branch but when I filmed this I used to work near Debden and sometimes made local journeys after work, especially in the summer. I very much think that the station where the doors opened on the right would have been Loughton. The station where the doors on the left could have been anywhere in that area. Regards, Simon

And now, at last, they’re all about to be replaced as the first 3 new HF1 trains by CAF just arrived in Essen and are about to enter service early next year. They will completely replace all existing older trains including these P86/P89 and all other older Stadtbahnwagen Typ B trains.

Hello, thank you for the information. It will be sad to see the Docklands trains being replaced, but trains cannot last forever. Here in London the Docklands Light Railway is also getting some new trains - these also come from CAF. The first of them should already be carrying passengers but there is a delay. We have not been told the reason for the delay.

I actually think that reusing the former Eurostar terminal at London Waterloo was a good idea. Because it meant that trains operating to Windsor & Eton Riverside and Reading can use the former Eurostar platforms. And to allow longer commuter trains to operate in and out of London Waterloo. As well as trains working on other long distance routes.
@CitytransportInfoplus18 күн бұрын
Yes it was a very good idea - but just a shame that it took so long to make the required changes for the Eurostar terminal to be used by domestic trains.
