I absolutely hate how this station has been brutalised, the soul and character has been ripped out of a once characterful station. Less is more.

The front doors remained closed because the ‘end door cut out’ button was pressed (to be used when a train overruns the platform slightly) and needs to be reset before the normal open and close door buttons become in sync with the rest of the circuit.

I can now understand why the 1972mk1 had the bad reputation on the Northern line, they were notoriously difficult to operate and had technical problems. It was basically the 7 car, manually driven version of the 1967 stock which included a guard.

Great to see the unrefurbished A-stock and old 115s. Remember travelling on those. However, that was a great catch with the class 101. I never remember seeing those on the Marylebone run. You learn something new! Great video as always!
@markcf838 күн бұрын
The Class 101 was only on the Western Region out of Paddington in very limited numbers due to the door configuration. I'd be very surprised if they were used long term on the Chiltern. As for the 115s,many were not fitted with gangways between the coaches unlike the 117s we had out of Padd
@robbiefstrains90838 күн бұрын
@ I do recall passing Greenford on the Central line in the early 90s perhaps and instead of the usual single car 121 unit, there was a 101 two car unit in the bay platform. As you say, very rare for them to be used on the Chiltern.

Wish flagstaff was still as it was in the 90s. No annoying music, no advertising screens, just an underground station that’s like an above ground station. Completely calm and silent. Perfect.

Really bizarre seeing London Underground trains in corporate livery this early in the 90s. Now in retrospect, watching this footage and comparing all three trial mockup liveries, LU corporate went with the best and most iconic one.
@CitytransportInfoplus17 күн бұрын
Yes, the best design won. I took part in the public consultation and voted for this design. The design with the blue stripe around the windows would not have lasted very long as it later became the rule that to help people with reduced visibility the doors should be in a contrasting colour.

In 1953/54 Glasgow Corporation acquired 46 Green Goddess trams to replace the aging standard trams but were confined to 2 routes due to being 2 ft longer than the Glasgow tram size and was withdrawn by 1960 2 years before Glasgow Corporation Transport closed the tram network. 869 was one of the Goddesses that operated in Glasgow and was renumbered 1055 when painted in Glasgow Corporation livery.

When I was a kid in the late 90s we went to kew gardens by train a fair few times. We came down the ECML on stoppers which were also class 313s, and then the north london line to kew (i don't remember where we interchanged? might have involved the underground?). We went on the tube a lot going other places, but those two aforementioned lines were the only national rail routes I experienced as a small child. So in my head, there were only two types of train: "underground trains" (the tube) and "overground trains" (class 313s). Then at some point I learned about high speed intercity services and had my little mind blown.

I used to commute through here from Richmond between 2010-2014 on District Line D-Stock. Fascinating to see how it used to be back in the 90s. I do miss NSE days. Also, I never knew they used 710s on this route now. I've been back there a few times in recent years and only saw 378s.
@BREListhebestbcuz45522 күн бұрын
i don't think its that common of an occurrence
@CitytransportInfoplus17 күн бұрын
Only a few 5 car 710's were bought for services to / from Stratford (other Overground routes use the 4 car versions) and therefore it is relatively rare to see them 'out and about'.

The 1959 / 62, 1960, 1967 and 1972 tube stock fleets plus the A, C and D subsurface trains were all built using unpainted aluminium - which looked like white. Some R stock trains were also unpainted and eventually the rest of the R stock fleet was painted white to match. The reason was that the trains were lighter (weighed less) so used less electricity and therefore more economic.

NSE was so long ago. I always found the North London Line branding very strange (the diamonds with varying different colors), as opposed to the most straightforward ones NSE employed such as with Thameslink.
@CitytransportInfoplus17 күн бұрын
I think that diamonds design might date from before Network SouthEast when the Euston - Watford service was known as the Harlequin line (named after a shopping centre in Watford)
