I agree with whatever you said about the education in singapore! Although it's good, it's soooo stressful. It's not the studying that will make you stressed, but it's the people around you!

It’s because of the fast-paced life in Singapore. People here may not mean to be rude or unfriendly, but may be overwhelmed by stress and neglect the human touch while tending to their business and trying to get things done quickly.

@tia8396
@tia8396 7 жыл бұрын
wu Chuenyan Do you mean that people look down on Chinese in Singapore because majority of the population is Chinese, so I don't understand. Also, it depends on the person. Some people are stuck-up, others are actually nice, so while some people look down on migrant workers, others don't. Another case is that people may regard migrant workers as a threat so maybe they feel like they have to 'act tough', because they don't want to be fired for a migrant worker to take their place, as the demand for products like necessities or homes in Singapore is high, and the supply cannot reach the demand, so to lower the demand, they have to make those products more expensive, thus people would want jobs with good salaries etc, it's a little complicated

Delvin Ang I think a large part of it is because of parents, they say just try your best, but it's never good enough. Parents are a big influence on their children and so the children would have competitive natures, which, sometimes, would lead to someone who regards everyone around them as competition, even their friends. I have at least one tuition 6 out of 7 days a week, which gives me very little time to do other things, so yes, we have to rush. Another big part is that everyone wants a good job and thus they need good grades, to afford a house as well as necessities, and everything in Singapore is expensive because of high demand(large population) and low supply(limited land and no natural resources,we have to buy resources from other countries). It's true though, there's a lot of competition in Singapore. It's so depressing sometimes...

I totally agree about Australia's good point about the education system and that its really balanced (they let you live/enjoy the wonders of life) and i also appreciate Singapore's education system of instilling discipline, time and stressing coping skills (work ethic basically but doesn't mean i liked it). I am happy I found your channel. Just returned to Denmark after studying a semester in Australia and it was a great experience. The more laid-back attitude towards studying actually encouraged me to make an effort and gain more from the classes. Now I'm planning where to study a semester from July this year am considering Singapore or somewhere else in Australia, but Singapore intimidates me quite a bit as I feel it could go wrong with the workload.

I've spent plenty of time in Singapore, HK, Japan, Thailand and Australia. And I must agree Singapore is like a "ruder Sydney" without the clean air and fresher foods... That said I think the Singapore Government is much smarter and well run than Australia. I'd live in Australia by choice over any nation I've been to. But like everything life always throws you different options and so far I'm abroad still...

Your point about Australians being friendly & open was brought home to me in Tokyo. My wife & I arrived at a Tokyo JR station and wondered how to get from the station to where the martial art dojo was. The station guard/ticket guy helped me & even drew a little map, which really helped. After training the teacher assigned a senior grade to help me and my wife get back to the JR station. Later that night, at the station I spotted the same helpful ticket guy and gave him a wave and thanked him. Meantime the senior martial arts guy was kind of freaking out as if I was on drugs or made a huge cultural mistake. Meantime, my mate the ticket collector remembered us and was so happy to see me again & to see that he was helpful to an appreciative tourist. Personally I think the Japanese martial arts guy was scratching his head because maybe he would never do such a thing or maybe had not seen it before. Maybe similar to Singapore attitude?

As an Australia uni student on exchange in Singapore, it took me awhile to find the right balance in thanking the bus driver. Like, I can't just NOT thank him, so I usually just do a quiet 'thanks' and a hand raise if I'm getting off through the front door. I find Singaporeans really friendly once you've gotten to know them, they aren't as open straight off the bat like Australians will be to any old person they meet in the supermarket, but super kind and funny once you've laid down some connections. The main thing that screws me over is the sleep difference, like 8am is bed time in Australia, but here people are still running their errands at 11pm it just.... crazy...

Yes correct comparison. I have lived there for 3 years as well But u need to know that everyone likes a chill life. Who doesn't wanna chill and knock off work at 5pm or some at 430pm. But what is the impact on the economy? In singapore, we don't have resources other than ourselves... that's why we can't chill. If we chill, we don't get handouts from anyone... we are self-reliant and we are proud of it. Regarding saying thank you to bus drivers...I am not sure other than Australia, for example in New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Boston, Paris.... do people say thank you to the bus drivers?

Anyway, just wanna know more from people who had migrated from Singapore to Australia. How did you migrate and get a job there? I heard it takes months and I have to be there first to get a job rather than sending out resumes from Singapore? Is that true? Another thing, how does Brixit have impact on Australia economy? More employment or opposite? Thanks for your input in advance.

I found people are not so hardworking.. Really laid back. Very slow pace. We in Singapore are very very hardworking n very, very responsible, n efficient, maybe too serious, thats why we progress so fast. Culturally we are more reserved. Once you meet the right friends, they can be warm n caring. Parties we do have even in apartments but not too rowdy. Maybe, if you stay longer you will meet some Singaporeans who can be genuine n sincere people but kiasu in a way. Don't forget we are only a small dot but has done very well. Thanks for comparing us.

@@annachia6891 Hi Anna, sorry to hear such bad experience. My experience was the opposite of yours. I was in Perth alot of times for holiday and there was this one day that my sister told me to use her car and drive wherever i wanna go. It was 5 years ago and apparently i manage to reach the beach. However, when i wanted to go back, i was lost. So i was going around looking for something familiar and finally i made up my mind to ask the people along the way. To my surprise, they helped me find my way back.

hi, there are several points i would like to clear up with you as a singaproean who has lived in 5 different countires n 3 continents for the last 20 years. Firstly, many headhunters have told us that they expel some nationalities who have a reputation to be lazy. Having a culture of being too laid back may be an advantageous breeze for you during your youth, but when you try to carve a career for yourself on the global scene, having a reputation of being a laid back australian isn't exactly beneficial. You are still young and will understand what I am talking about when you seek overseas top notch positions one day. Secondly, many western schools like the ones in Europe have limited English and low standards on the primary, preschool or secondryr level, as a result, many european youths finds it hard to pass through the entrance test of inernational schools, thus being a barrier for themselves to be international. Singapore children have never had a problem passing through the top international schools. Thirdly, Employers of tomorrow don't wanna hear that you are here for an interview because you like the skiing possibilities or life enjoyment opportunities, which many westerners surprisingly said during interviews. You will never heard an aisan saying such things during an interview. Forthly, no succes is possible without hardwork. Everyone is creative, but few are hardworking and self sacfricing enough to achieve results. I have lived in a Scandnavian country where the language is one of the most diffcult in the world, demanding 45 changes in one single word. I have not seen a single Australian succeeding ing in our class. I saw only 2 Austrlian students and they gave up pretty fast. It is the asians who continued to persist even though they may not be lingisitcally talented . Ultimately they still succeed by a large extend as compared to the Asutralians. So Delvin, pls think twice and be aware of what you wish for. You are still young now, and have not encountered the realities of the world. Do you think we would be the most competiive country in the world without resources if it hasn't been for our reputation? Australia isn't having a reputation for it's education and neither are you guys on PISA top 5. Singapore has been number 1 for the last 10 years and yes, our kids do sports and our mathematics skills require critical and creative thinking already at age 12, whereas an Adult Australfian journalist can't even solve our mathematics problems in our elementary schools. That' embarassing for your country. The future is Asian, the world's economy is in Asia. So i suggest that you be a lot more hardworking and learn Bahasa or Mandarin, your hugely accented Australian English isn't gonna put you in a comfotable position when you wanna blend in the asian working scene. Australia is having a problems with racism, unemployment, drugs, poor quality of housing, insufficient global language skills, and many Australians are speaking rather poor hard to grasp English despite being English native speakers, There are many things whcih I don't fancy about Australia either. So before you critise others, pls view your opinions hollistically and intelligently.

To add on Delvin, If you have enough of travel experiences from all over the world, you wlll notice that Europeans in Scandnavian countries and many parts of Asia do not greet you easily either. Singaoreans aren't the only ones. But i have come to notice that Singaproeans are less racists than Australians, more hardworking, more willing to give up their seats to someone in need and we bullshit less, We use actions to prove our ideas and does not beat someone else down just becaue they are more successful than us, as compared to the west where high social welfare society means the society is equal and mediocre people prevails. So if you get someone being oustanding , he or she is judged and slammed down. We aren't like that in Singapore. Devlin, you are still a student, therefore you experiences in life is rather limited and one sided. i suggest you be a little bit more mature, cause you might need to seek employment in Singapore one day, the future of the world's economy will shift from China to SE Asia, if you wanna be part of us, stop looking at us through the eyes of an Asutralian, we are not australians and we do not aim to inherit the problems of Austalia.
