Had to watch your reaction again! Also, I was so busy praising your interpretation of Yebba's vocals that I forgot to praise Yebba. Of course she's insanely talented, BUT, as much as this is one of my favorite performances EVER. I haven't connected as much to most of her other stuff. Believe me. I think what makes yebba so amazing is that she PERFECTLY exudes with her voice whatever the emotion she is singing. Like if a word (or abstract concept) had a sound she would know how to sing it. Does that even make sense? Haha her voice isn’t only beautiful and technical, it’s emotional and she does it so effortlessly unlike anyone I’ve ever heard. It’s exactly why I don’t care to hear anybody do covers of yebba songs. Because even if a person can hit all the same notes as yebba they usually are lacking that special quality yebba has.

Yebba is wonderfully talented. I wish that we wouldn't be rushing so fast to give her a Black music identity equal to the soulful greats. In her voice, I hear Eva Cassidy, Dixie Chicks' lead singer, Adele, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, a little Cheryl Crow plus a scattering of country-western yodeling, rock-n-roll belting, some Indian music techniques, and a consistent sampling of Black music styles tucked in for seasoning. In her first album, her music sounds like alternative songs. When she sings with Black gospel back-up and singers and Black musicians and arrangers equivalent to, for example, a Stevie Wonder-type band, she produces music more in an R&B style. I respect her artistry very much, but I enjoy it when we itemize the multiple influences in her sound rather than jump to the easy comparison that she (in her twenties, no less) equals the Black female greats sounds. I look forward to seeing her live.
