I have an earlier 20U. You can also adjust the knee lever to control the stitch width regulator rather than the presser foot lift. Before computerized embroidery machines, machine embroidery was done essentially free hand. I've lost track of the videos but remember a few where it was amazing to watch a guy do perfect embroidery. My reverse has stopped working. It stops the machine from sewing forward but never quite gets to reverse.

I know this is an old video. I recently was having problems with skipped zig-zag stitches and was not able to tighten down my handwheel. I would like for you to make a video on this for a Singer 20U33 I think I have it fixed now but it was a lot of searching and not even on a Singer 20U video I found my "clutch disk" had slipped out of place. PLEASE make a video for Singer 20U and the clutch disk replacement. If it is out it causes so many problems

Hey Alexander, I bought a singer 20u33 for free motion embroidery work, but I don´t know how to fit the tension correctly. Big satin stitches are perfect, but I need straigthstitch to create more delicate embroiderys. I´m from germany and here is nobody around that knows what free motion embroidery is... I would be glad to get a response from you whether you can help me or not. Thank´s in advance

To sew a straight stitch you set the bight to it's most narrow setting. The tension setting should remain the same. It is great to hear from Germany, your English is very good. Thank you very much, I hope this helps in some way. Viel Erfolg

It is possible but spongy material is more of a challenge. Your feed dog should be in good shape and not too smooth from use. Perhaps the feed dog may need adjustment so that is is fully engaging the fabric and then the foot pressure would need to be considered as well. Good luck.

I have this machine but trying to sew twill and it will only sew two layers of twill. Also the thread cuts whenever it goes over a sean.

Typically I would recommend a walking foot sewing machine for thick materials and they don't always require zig zag. I always recommend trying to sew what you want to sew on a machine before purchasing if you can.

Hello my mom has the exact machine but she tells me that the machine is out of time or possibly out of sync. sorry if you dont know what that is or if i am saying it correctly i am translating from spanish to english. The needle is hitting underneath the plate where the bobbin is and breaking the needles. Do you know how to fix this of adjust it or maybe where I can find some documentation on this matter? I have a Singer 20U33 and have used it for many years but not much in the past year. I went to try to sew on it today and the black otter wheel spins and will not make the lever go up or down. Any recommendations for me to try? I have oiled it but it still does not work. It is like the belt does not turn anything.

Easy, just tighten the center knob on the hand wheel. It is there to disengage the rest of the machine while bobbin loading.

I tried tightening the center knob but even doing that the big wheel will not engage and make things move. I understand about loosening to wind the bobbin. Iam wondering could it be the belt has stretched and it is not enough pull on the wheel to turn?

Hey I was not going to let this problem get the best of me so I kept tying to find my problem and I found it. The Clamp Stop Motion Washer is worn. I flipped it over and the machine is working correctly now. But I went searching for a new one and Singer says they have stopped making this part. I searched the internet but did not find anyone who has a new one for sale. I found some used CSMw but as far as i can tell none say they are for my model exactly, So I am searching and will continue. I did contact Singer by email too see if they have any suggestions. +Joyce Weaver If your machine is difficult to turn by hand without the belt then the restriction is in the machine. The most common cause is a bunch of thread wrapped around and under the bobbin and hook. Give the machine a good cleaning, remove all lint and thread and oil any moving parts while you are at it.

Hi! how set the timing of the left and right position of the needle? Mine is only working on the middle and right position. when i switch to left position the hook won't catch the thread. when put to zigzag it works on narrow stitch but not on the wide stitch. I hope you can help me on how and where to adjust. thanks

Your machine is not timed properly. timing is not too tough and you may be able to manage. I can't really explain how to do it in comments. Time your machine so that is will not skip any stitches at the widest setting and all other settings will be good.

my only problem is the position of the left and right of the needle they are not even from the middle position the left side is more wider from the middle position. maybe you can have a video on how set the needle position to make it even left and right from the middle position.

Change your needle. Make sure you have good thread. Re-thread your machine. Check and adjust your take up spring. Hold your thread tails when you start.
