This a good quality machine, thanks for the video.Should be noted also this model has a one off bobbin case which enables it to do a chain stitch. The same PA motor was used in the 301, the 400,500 series and the whole line of Touch and Sew machines, 600, 700 series machines here in Canada. With all the Touch and Sew models with their plastic gears now coming to the age where the gears are breaking there are plenty of parts machines on the market to get both motors and slanted feet from at very cheap prices. If you ever come across a grey 611g, they are just an updated 411g, with a more standard bobbin case also with chain stitch capabilities. Love the 306/319’s also!

It's definitely of an era with that styling. But the difficulty in getting spares and accessories for it would rule it out as the main/only machine for me personally. But for a collector I'd think something like would be a must-have.

Yep loads of spares available because the same parts are used across a couple or 3 decades of many models. The motors are easily available but they can be easily rewound and repaired. Having said that, they just don’t pack it in. They are probably the best machines law a series ever produced. Powerful. Maintainable, super fast, industrial quality with loads of stitches and accessories.

The 319 is also a low shank machine so presser feet are widely available and inexpensive.

Just got one of these to take on some tougher jobs - horse blankets (rugs). My Brother SQ9050 was making ‘death thumps’. I needed something more robust so hopefully this works.

Interesting thread path "Automatic thread control ATC" that pulls on the top thread before going through the tension disks is also on my 401g but the American machines do not have this only the ones made in Germany. I have seen YT showing when you might get better results not using ATC on stretch fabrics. On my machine to to rotate the stitch selectors I find it is easier to set the stitch length to 1 it seems to reduce the turning force. On my 401g the lower bobbin flat tension spring had snapped between the two screws, bodge I flipped the broken bit over so it now traps / clamps the rest of the flat spring and it still sews. I do have some spare industrial springs that I will grind to fit. The bobbin case apparently is common across the range of the 400s and possibly the 500s ? Thanks it was a great demo.

Thank you, those are some interesting observations, I wasn’t aware of the ATC differences in the US. Good luck with your spring mods.

When you set the stitch "width" lever to 1, the zig zag is still engaged, so the stitch will not be the best. The "theory" is good though, but the mechanism is still turned on.

@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Yes, in the U.S. "Automatic Thread Control" was only available on the model # 500 and 503 machines. The U.S. market seemed to "balk" at the innovation..

I want to ask, is there any re-stitching at the beginning or end of the fabric?

If the start and end of the sewing run is in the seam allowance, there is no need to back tack.

You can see the "Chain stitch guide" to the left of the take up lever.. It needs a chain stitch throat plate and either bobbin case insert or bobbin case to chain stitch.
@cakesd41999 ай бұрын
Yes , I have chainstitched with my 411g. Remove either the straight or zigzag needle plate and use the chainstitch plate with the little "finger" underneath. Remove the bobbin, thread through the additional thread guide in the slot under the take up, lengthen the stitch, reduce top tension to around 1-2 and begin stitching!
