She’s really got the jazz thing going on, she makes it look so easy but jazz is pretty difficult to get right, it has different timing to anything else. I think Sohyang could be a very successful jazz singer, although I realise that I have said a similar thing every time I’ve heard her sing a new genre, that’s how good she is. It doesn’t matter how any Sohyang performances you experience, she has the ability to completely floor you every time. I am so looking forward to you tackling the rest of the ‘begin again Korea’ series, you have so many stunning performances to look forward to. These performances were done throughout the pandemic, hence the small audiences & masks, & this laid back, acoustic nature of the performances really leaves the vocalist/s nowhere to hide with the very minimum musical accompaniment, they are basically busking,and Sohyang excels in this situation where her voice is there for all to see. These performances are as current as yr gonna get from Sohyang because most reactors are reacting to performances from 4-8 yrs ago because there is a lack of Sohyang material available & she’s not on any media platforms like Instagram/twitter etc. I believe that leading up to this series she had a relatively long period of goodish health by sohyang’s standards & it really shows, not only does she look great, happy & relaxed but she sounds better than ever, which up until I witnessed her performances in this series for myself, I never thought I’d ever hear myself saying, because I thought it impossible!!! I’m not really into jazz but ‘Misty’ is my fav from this series, she looks/sounds so comfortable singing it. Others to look out for are: ‘I will always love you’ which I think you’ve already reacted to, and was the first song from this series to inc. Sohyang. ‘I won’t give up’ by Jason Mraz, OMG!! powerful performance, handkerchief alert!!! ‘If I ain’t got you’ by Alicia Keys ‘Marvin Gaye’ a duet with Henry where she’s just playful. ‘Stuck with you’ by Justin Bieber/Ariana Grande - a duet with Crush. ‘I’ll be there’ by Mariah Carey, she grew up with this song & she can sing this until the cows come home. ‘Day Day’ - a song in both eng/Korean in which you will find her rapping with the other members of the ensemble. Although Sohyang was the token elder of this group, she was chosen to sing the bulk of the rap parts because quite simply she was the best at it, even though she was surrounded by ‘young/er’ Korean pop stars whom one would imagine would be more au fair with the genre. She also does a solo performance of this song in her stint on the show KOMS. There are many other performances, not a bad one in sight both eng songs & Korean songs but I found that some of her most enchanting performances were those in her native language. I always feel that eng subs aren’t essential when listening to Sohyang because she has that ability to make you ‘feel’, even when you have no idea of the lyrics, but watching her performances via ‘Vimeo’ will provide the subs for you as well as in many cases a continuation of the video after she has finished singing where her fellow performers basically drool over her vocals, and all these are very famous performers in their own right.

Thanks for your reaction on this masterpiece performance. Paul Kim (on her right) was saying on interview after this performance "I didn't want the song to end" Lee Suhyun (second on her left) was tearing up, can you imagine how precious was for them performing with such a master? If you go down the KoreaBeginAgain road, prepare for great covers, I particularly enjoy the times when she is offering backing vocals to the young singers. This is the metal of a true master, enjoy offering.

I too loved hearing her do backups. She fit right in and appeared to be thoroughly enjoying herself. In an interview, one of the other performers let it slip that hey all referred to SoHyang as "mommy" which is so un diva like, but so sounds like she would enjoy it.

Thanks for your reaction. Enjoyed it much. Of course the song was originally sung by none other than Ella Fitzgerald, but So Hyang held her own. Loved it! Begin Again is a Korean show that started few years before the pandemic started. It featured many Korean musicians including So Hyang. In fact, the people sitting by her side are all professional singers. Previous seasons of the program featured singers such as Lena Park(one of my favorite), Yuna Kim of Jaurim and Do-Hyun Yoon of YB. You should really check them all out. They may not be SoHyang, but in their own ways, they are true artists and at the top of their crafts.

Composer Errol Garner recorded Misty on piano in 1954 and when lyrics were added by Johnny Burke, Dakota Staton was the first to record the song in 1957, followed by Sarah Vaughan and Johnny Mathis 1959 and then Ella Fitzgerald in 1960.
