Thanks for this reaction. I'd not heard this piece before, so it's great to hear it with someone who knows more about production and music than I do and can point out things I wouldn't have ordinarily picked up on. Kevin is a master at the cello! And composition, beatboxing...just everything !

Funny, your comment about the choreography. Somewhere in the middle of the song I had a vision of a paso dobles on Dancing with the Stars. That would be awesome.

This is my favorite of Kevin's and has been since I saw it years ago. What Kevin does is nothing short of amazing. As a singer and musician of various instruments myself for most of my life both professionally and for pleasure, what Kevin does in his Cello-boxing is mind boggling. The various times and rhythms and beat he has to produce, maintain in his head, while also playing a very technical instrument and singing is just incredible. I love to watch this man take one of his pieces of work and perform it, while we just sit back and are amazed. Enjoyed the reaction Jeffrey, very glad you did this one. ❤

When I first heard this I thought it was a tribute to the Styx song "Renegade" from the 70s ("Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life, From the long arm of the law"). It's definitely not a cover, but to me it has similarities. However, I've never seen any mention of the Styx song in relation to this so it may just be one of those musical synchronicities.

@JeffreyHackReacts As a professional, do you believe the audio for this was being recorded live, or is it synched with a studio recording? I'm having trouble imagining how it could have been recorded on location, but I don't know much about the industry.

The best way to tell is by looking watching their throat for any movements in the vocals muscle. But sometimes I even sing for real when my audio has already been recorded and mixed for the video.

@@JeffreyHackReacts Pentatonix regularly does exactly that - they record in the studio and lip-synch the video, by actually singing. So I don't doubt that Kevin was actually playing his cello and singing when this was filmed; I just wondered whether there's a good way to record in those conditions, with the microphone(s) totally hidden. I note, for instance, that it was obviously windy, but we don't hear the wind.
