I love how he used the three verses to show the anger that builds in the song for people continuing to ignore the warnings. The song itself is a masterpiece but David really made it his own!

Draiman covers roughly two-and-a-half octaves from bottom to top. His vocals are so distinctive. Disturbed had been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rock Performance for their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" while appearing on Conan. -David Draiman : "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right."

He is amazing! The band choose this song as they usually do one cover per album. They are a heavy metal band. This was completely different from their normal genre. I don’t particularly like their heavy metal but David, his voice, is just the best. Never do I see the band get credit for this. David is a member but the band picked the song and the arrangement gives many goosebumps. This is a song and rendition that at, even four years later, continues to amaze the world. Bravo! If they did an album like this instead of heavy metal, I’m so there. Conan has 1000,000 million views. The reaction videos probably doubles that. Classic, timeless and best rendition of a song ever. They owned it.

Draiman comes from an orthodox Jewish background and trained as a cantor in his early life but luckily for all of us, he chose to go into the music business rather than stay within his religious musical circles (which didn't go down well with his family). Thank God he made the right choice eh? God what a voice.

I appreciate as I'm sure many do, that you watched the song without interrupting it and commenting. Some reaction videos have the voice teacher talking half the time, without even appreciating how good the rendition is because they are too busy giving feedback. What a gift this song is for those who have not heard... today was the first time I'd heard, never imagined that Draiman could sing like this, never heard him outside of the Disturbed style that I was used to.

I like that you just mainly listened and didn’t pause every 20 secs. I enjoy seeing professionals genuine reaction, not their critique the whole way through. Vocal coach reactions is a different sub genre to common reaction videos, they usually talk in the middle of the performance for a reason. There are people who genuinely wants the commentary part, or wants to have insights about the performance as they happen.

His voice is pure soul and will, powerful and with such authority. He means every word, and he makes you feel it in your guts. He touches your deepest strings as soon as he opens his mouth. You feel like you're being called. And this version is outstanding. They say you can listen to the original song as many times as you want, but you never hear the song until you hear this version, and that’s when you hear the song for the first time.

When I heard David Draiman cover The Sound of silence, I was wowed just like you and curious who he was I also googled him and listen to some of his songs. The lyrics to his music made me wonder if he’d had a horrible upbringing. So I watched a couple of his interviews I must say I was impressed He is actually very smart and well educated man. His determination to succeed with his music is impressive and his fan base is huge. He’s lost some good friends to drug OD my only wish is that he would use his influence to encourage youngsters to kick the habit before the habit kicks them to the grave.

Most of their songs have a message...which impresses me...whether it be people sick in hospital; victims of crime or accidents; losing someone to death, alcoholism, drug overdoses or suicide; disabled children/adults; the mentally ill; abuse victims and unrequited love. Awesome reaction. I love the fact that you let the song play and enjoyed it to the fullest before commenting. So many others make a lot of stops to comment on the vocals, techniques used, etc. I get that it adds to the video, especially since many doing this are vocal teachers, but in my opinion the initial reaction should be of the whole song undisturbed, no pun intended, and then if need be, go back and comment on various snipets.

This song is AMAZING... probably the most popular reaction song E V E R !! The crazy part is this is so far from what it is that Disturbed does musically that people of any music genre were/seemed (bewildered?)! 100% of all the people that watch this video thought to themself, "What the heck am I experiencing here?" "Who is this Man?" "Where have I heard this before?" "Is this religious/spiritual in its nature?" (lol) and then once the song is over? (speaking of the sound of silence) almost all had to gather their thoughts and ponder many mixed emotions! Was this for real? How Davids phenomenal vocals were either never known to them or if known to them... What the hell this was? The sad thing was when watching the official video... many (did I say, "Many?") focused on his facial expressions and piercings; the dark imagery was intentional as well as exceptional! Was this a fluke? Not at all ...but... this was totally unexpected by the entire world of music as a whole!! ~just like Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" - these songs which are covers... are now theirs!!

This gentleman can sing. But...can also perform, tie it together. My favorite song from Disturbed is ‘Get Down With The Sickness’ because as a child, I was verbally and physically abused by my mom. She absolutely screwed up my head. It took reading and studying the Bible, and reading two dozen parenting books to break the cycle. My children never knew her, and that was by intent. I still get occasional nightmares but they faded over the years. Many people think the song is evil, and I say no..it’s about awareness to what child abuse does to a kid, it f**s them up for life.

I agree. I am in the same boat as you. When I was younger, I suffered through a lot of emotional and verbal abuse from my biological father and witnessed him physically abuse both my biological brother and biological mother. Then when I was 12, I was sexually abused by my uncle( my biological father's brother) and have suffered from emotional scars of the incident. I have PTSD and extreme hypervigilance because of it. Due to my PTSD and hypervigilance I have a lot of trust issues.

Yes, I was molested, too. By a few men starting at age four. It doesn’t bother me as much as the hateful words and physical abuse from my mother. I guess when I think about it, they were creepy perverts taking advantage of a child..what a heavy burden they must have carried to their graves. I had no choice, but they did. I can’t imagine having a filthy mind like that, riddled with demons. Hurting a child. Shame on them. Keeping my head on straight and working hard to be objective I can only give credit to Jesus. And I didn’t want to devote my life to hate and mental instability. I wanted other things..I chose to move forward. But PTSD does creep into my thoughts...one time I saw a grandmother at the park with her grandchildren. They adored her. My children never knew their grandmother..it made me cry and shake. Then I would snap out of it...remembering ‘I’ am at the park with ‘my’ children...my mother never took me to a park. While my children ran around with big smiles in the open air, I remember being sent to the basement all day or being locked in my room without a light bulb. My children say I’m a good mom...they still hug me everyday and tell me they love me, and they are grown up! Yup...chain broken.

@@blondek767 I did go to court to press charges against my uncle for sexually assaulting me. Sadly though, it in a deadlock (hung jury.) I will never forgive my uncle. However, I don't dwell and I don't hate on men for what he did to me. In fact, I have an international friend that I have been talking to for three years now and we have some similar situations mainly with verbal abuse and bullying that we have suffered. He has actually mentioned that if could come visit me ( I am from Montana and he is from Kolin, Czech Republic) that he would ask me out on a date. We have some much things in common that we are kind of like soul mates.

I married a guy who had the same issues as I did. We call ourselves ‘Generation One’. He switched religions, from Non-Denomination to Lutheran so we could go to church with our children as a family. I’m not kidding, we had to read many of books and took actual parenting classes, we admitted to each other that neither one of us had anything to draw upon. He had a wicked step-mother, suffered with permanent nerve damage from beatings, and spent much time in foster homes. He was very screwed up. Like I said..reading the Bible gave me clarity, I could think objectively. I no longer take the abuse I suffered as personal. I really do believe, if it wasn’t me, it would be some other kid in my shoes. But I still struggle with anger..our kids deserved normal grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins to play with. It was difficult filling those voids for them. Abuse can effect multiple generations. I’m fully aware of the demons Disturbed spoke of in Get Down With The Sickness’, and think nobody but someone who has experienced abuse as children can understand. I will pray for you. My advice is you should read the NIV bible, cover to cover. Discover why God created you to begin with, and how he wants you to think, live, and how he can heal you. It will give you new eyes. If that makes sense. It can reverse much of your PTSD, like it did for me. Learning that humans are flawed creatures, all of us, will give you better perspective. I ask God to let the Holy Spirit guide my path because sometimes I don’t know what to do. It’s essential to not become weak willed, and constantly feel like a victim. We only get one life and I’m determined not to waste it on the past. My only flaw is my anger and lack of forgiveness...I’m hoping God will give me ‘a pass’ on that. God bless you. ✝️

@@blondek767 My friend from the Czech Republic has dealt with tons of bullying and verbal abuse from teachers and students due to him have brain damage. However, his brain damage was not caused by a car accident or physical abuse, no, it was caused be a premature birth. He had a special paper from the Psychology Committee that said he could not be evaluated from arts because of his inability draw/paint correctly due to his brain damage. But his art teacher ignored the paper and openly bullied and mocked him for his inability to draw/paint properly.

As i like to say David Draiman and Disturbed as a band are the gods of music. They have many songs that are above amazing. Also their music always stands for something and has a clear message. I've always been drawn to sounds like Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. David Draiman was another. Many of his songs are simply amazing. His coiver of Sound of Silence is probably one of the best songs ever recorded. Amazing voice.
