I'm not sure of the exact timing, but this was right around the time Kirstie went through a nasty breakup with her then-fiancee, and I've always suspected that a lot of that came through in this performance. Also, pretty much everyone has a similar reaction to that amazing chromatic drop.

Yes…the wedding was called off right before it was supposed to happen in late 2017. Coincidentally, this is right after Scott had a falling out with Todrick and Todrick decided to be a petty biotch and make it public on Twitter by tagging Scott in a tweet that was literally copied word-for-word by that Trisha person who was trying to shame Avi because she felt slighted by him (which definitely explains why Scott was feeling those lyrics in particular). Seriously, late 2017-early 2018 there was A LOT of upheaval and change (some positive, some not). Avi left, Matt joined, Kirstie called off her wedding, Scott and Mitch stopped living together, Scott and Todrick fell out, Kirstie starred in Kinky Boots…I feel like it was the period of time where they all started coming into themselves as individuals. There will always be upheaval when that happens. Good and bad. For creative types, when they channel it all into their art, we ALL win!
