Angelina lost her grandpa a couple years ago. I lost my mother about a month ago now. This song is a balm to me, capturing the connection and appreciation I have for my mom even though she is a million miles away. It is beyond belief that a 14 year old can express such sensitivity that brings expression to my feelings, grief and relief from sorrow. I hope others find solace in this song, as I have.

So glad you found this song Stephen, it is a balm to all of us who have lost loved ones. AJ's paternal grandfather died in March '18, and her maternal grandfather died in Nov '19. She was working on this song last winter (when we first heard to expect a new album).

@@nyima04011 Thanks for the information on Angelina's family and the loss of both grandfathers. She has strong family ties with her grandparents and so her heartfelt singing dedicated to her grandfathers is a wonderful remembrance and dedication to them. So wonderful to see a young girl so aware of the importance of her supportive family, and with such close ties to life surrounding her. Hopefully, she can sing more upbeat songs as well as the many blues, jazz and country songs about loss.

I'm glad you jumped ahead to this song. It is her first major release under her new record label, and it deserves to get attention. Angelina wrote this song with her grandfather in mind, but she dedicated it to everyone that has lost a loved one. She said about this song, "I hope this song finds a place in your heart as it comes straight from mine". I get the feeling that every single thing Angelina does comes straight from her heart. Everything she does is so genuine.

Every time I play this video I can't help but picture Angelina walking in the park somewhere holding grandpa's hand and looking up to him with love pouring out of her heart. Josh, of all the reactors (and there are a lot of good ones) you are very special and you have been right on target with this beautiful song by Angelina. And, to back that up, just look at the comments that her fans are sending you. I'm not ashamed to say that I love her very much and I'm sure there are millions (yes! millions) of people who feel the same way. People say she doesn't appear nervous when she performs and her voice is so emotional. It's because she is singing to us, for us to enjoy. That is her purpose. That's what she does. She wrote Million Miles about her grandpa but also made sure she wanted to share her message with people who have been in a similar situation, to help them. God bless her........

This song is dedicated to Angelina's second grandpa who passed away last year, and all who have lost loved ones. On her Patreon page on Nov 16, 2020, Angelina wrote, “I created this song for everyone that has lost someone special, for me, this was to my grandpa that passed away last year in November.” Her other grandpa passed away in March 2018, and she dedicated “Always On My Mind” to him then. In the American Songwriter interview Angelina revealed how she felt while recording this song. “When I was in the booth, while I was singing, my tears were running,” she says. “To be honest, it was like a feeling of relief that all my feelings were written down and I felt relieved.” That speaks volumes about Angelina’s ability to transfer her emotions to her audience, who in turn will feel the same. What a beautiful gift to anyone who has grieved for the loss of a loved one. Most of us have not had to endure the loss of so many relatives, associates and friends that Angelina has at such a young age. Angelina is truly a gift to us all. Thanks for your reaction. (Link to interview: americansongwriter.com/million-miles-Angelina-Jordan-song-interview/) This song was recorded before she signed with Republic according to Angelina. One of the producers played the song for Republic founder and CEO Monte Lipman, and that’s when he said he wanted to sign Angelina. Stargate, the producer duo (Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen) has produced or written for Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Wiz Khalifa, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Rita Ora, Normani, Mis-Teeq, Celine Dion, Blue, Janet Jackson, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Sam Smith, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Pink, Sia, Whitney Houston, Nas, Chris Brown, Khalid, Charli XCX, Trey Songz and others. They have been nominated for 17 Grammy’s and won 4. Quite a famous list of artists and recognition, which now includes the future legend Angelina Jordan.

That last "...is pulling my heart" after that long, heart-wrenching note, is so sweet and delicate. It's clear that the sincerity of this song is pure and runs throughout and there is no pretense or falsehood about it. That's why it penetrates the heart.

This song is hard for me to listen to, for some reason it keeps reminding me of Rimmy, a friend of mine for 14 years, i said goodbye to him 6 days ago. When they are with you for 14 years they feel like children when they go, i came home late that day from work, i held and rocked him in a chair for 30 minutes and then got up to get something to drink, tucking him into his dog bed, when i came back upstairs he was gone. This song just makes me think of him, and he is always in my head and heart, so he will never be actually gone. You are a special young lady AJ, thank you.

Her grandmother did the artwork for Angelina's book that she wrote years ago, I believe they used that. She gave her shoes to a barefooted girl scraping a bit of money with bathroom scales..in her diary she wrote..it felt like my heart was filled with light and a ladder appeared between heaven and earth... I believe she was younger than 7 when she wrote that in her diary, theirs an interview with subtitles somewhere..she is amazing..❤️🔥🔥

Thank you for your appreciative reaction, especially for your validation of this song as a masterpiece. That means a lot coming from a singer such as yourself. You may know that Angelina's maternal grandmother is a highly regarded painter. She is teaching Angelina to paint, and they did the artwork together for the video. It is in the style of the illustrations that the grandma, Mery Zamani did for the book that Angelina wrote. She became Norway's youngest published author at age nine. The thing Angelina does so beautifully here, what people call a run, I call a primal wail. It puts me in mind of the pain and passion expressed in the cries that Spanish Flamenco singers use so effectively.

She opened up her diary and poured her heart out for her beloved grandpa as well as for everyone. While I listen I envision her going on a walk with her grandpa, holding his hand. Her desperate cries in the song, trying to reach him in heaven. Angelina said she had tears running down her cheeks while recording this song and we can hear that's true. Both of her grandfathers (the Swedish one and the Japanese one) died in the last couple of years. I think the illustrations are based on the book she wrote when she was 8, making her Norway's youngest's published author. The book describes how she met a street girl who had no shoes when was 6. She met her in Iran and I'm guessing spoke to her in Farsi. She gave her her shoes and vowed to always perform barefoot so we would be reminded there are children in need--a promise she has kept.

Thanks for doing this reaction! There's so much to say about it and Angelina's intention when writing it and releasing it at this moment. About the drawings, they are based on the ones that Angelina's grandma did for Angelina's book "Between two hearts" and complemented with others done by videographer David Kitson. In an interview in American Songwriter she says it all. She explains she knew she wanted to be a musician at an early age but wanted to wait until she felt ready to put out something meaningful. Wow, did she accomplished that with this song! americansongwriter.com/million-miles-angelina-jordan-song-interview/

Josh, thank you for the wonderful and sweet reaction with Angelina's new song, I loved. It is a very sweet and very intense song dedicated with infinite love to the grandfather who passed away and to all the people who have lost someone, but it is also a song full of hope, with beautiful lyrics, especially if you think it was written by a girl from 14 years old, and her voice is so incredibly "made in Angelina". She and her grandmother Mery are a beautiful story of a fantastic family. ❤️ ❤️ I love her grandmother's background paintings, they are so "right" for Angelina's voice and story as Angelina's slow climb up the steps of the stair until of the moon and the her grandfather is of infinite sweetness. This song is a beautiful portrait of her and it encompasses everything, her sensitivity, her family, her affections and her love 🤗❤️ The grandparents for a child, and this grandfather died that Angelina was not yet 14 years old, he is often a companion of fantasies and desires even more than his parents, who normally have work and everyday life to take away the time in the relationship of love, therefore the loss is often intense and is usually also the first loss children face in life.

That was a very touching reaction- I feel the seeds for this story were down back when Angelina was 8 years old, Fly me to the Moon, it sets the scene, probably already meant something relating to looking at the moon together, in that song Is the phrase "in other words hold my hand". Also for her the phrase "fill my heart with song, let me sing for ever more" would have resonated. Also at this time she was writing her books, Between two hearts, the book was published when she was 9 years old. The illustrations to the book that she helped her grandma

Continues... Grandma paint includes the ladder and the moon (opening image in the animation), and the closing image is with her holding hands with the girl that she gave her shoes to. She can no longer hold her hand as they must have lost contact, she didn't even get to learn her name. So for me this song is about coming to terms with those we love that have passed away, but also those who are out of reach, especially during the restrictions due to Covid-19. Angelina is a gift to the world in our moments of greatest need. I truly hope that she has a long and successful career, but most of all that she will be happy.

I don't know if this was the actual idea behind it, but the feeling I get from little animated Angelina climbing the ladder is that it is related to the lyrics "He said I'm watching you from the moon" and "I wonder are your friends the stars", with a broken-hearted little Angelina trying to climb up to where she thinks her grandpa might be, so she could be with him again.

To call her a chameleon is absolutely right on. And here she is channeling Grace Vanderwall. It might almost be also-"youngish" Grace having written and sung what we're hearing here. This is not to take away from Angelina. For me, what is special about Angelina at this time in her singing is how very fine an instrument she has to work with, her timing, her syncopation, her pitch. But of course she's only fourteen . . . and a natural-born chameleon. And, to switch metaphors, I can't wait to see what sort of butterfly eventually emerges from this chrysalis.

I hope this song finds a place in you heart, as it comes straight from mine”. Thanks for an insightful reaction, Josh. Angelina, as always, was masterful. I've listened to the song dozens of times and it brings me to tears every time. The song is beautiful, delivered by a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice and an even more beautiful heart. I think the imagery used in the video is amazing. It's based on artwork from Angelina and her grandmother Mery Zamani, a noted Iranian artist and poet. There are a couple of things that jump out at me. First is the image of her climbing the ladder, which reminds me of her interview on Anne Lindmo's TV show talking about her book. Anne asked Angelina to read a passage from her diary that she wrote after meeting the girl and giving away her shoes. Angelina wrote in part that, "It was as if there was from earth to heaven, a staircase. I climbed up the stairs." If you haven't seen the interview, you really should watch. It is extraordinary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5SmfXePZaiGkJo The second is the image of the girl with her arms outstretched like she's holding the moon. It is strikingly similar to the end of the video for "Fly Me To The Moon": kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ_Rq5WaqZmSiKc

Music and incredible lyrics by Angelina. Lyrical artwork by Angelina and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. In an interview with American Songwriter, Angelina said that while in the recording booth tears were running down her cheeks. While listening to the song, I can visualize this and the emotions just flood my heart. I can only hope that Republic has plans for promoting this wonderful song (and they are very good at that), as so many have lost, and will continue to lose, loved ones during this horrible pandemic. What a wonderful, heartfelt reaction, Josh. I could tell that this song had a real impact on you (as it does with most everyone). I just don't get the feeling, though, that "Million Miles" is getting the exposure it deserves. Early in November, I mailed letters to over 200 local, state and national hospital, hospice and funeral home executives and owners, and included a page with the lyrics of "Million Miles", information about Angelina and ways to access it on KZbin, streaming services and for purchase. I asked them to copy and distribute the information to the families they serve who have lost loved ones for any reason, but especially during this scourge of COVID-19. I had a tremendous response from many of the people I contacted. Also, today I mailed two letters to Republic Records, one to Robert Stevenson, Executive VP and Head of A & R in New York, and the other to Ben Adelson, Senior VP of A & R in Los Angeles. In short, I told them that "Million Miles" is too important not to be heard throughout the world. I encouraged them to do whatever is necessary to make that happen, without regard to immediate profit motives. Having Angelina sing that song for the masses will give comfort to millions of people who are grieving and will also give her massive exposure which will ensure greater future profits for Republic Records. I really appreciate that Angelina gets signed to a label and sets out to create her first single while signed and does she create a pop anthem or some other song? No, she creates something from the heart about someone she loves and pours her heart into it. I really am excited to see what she does with her career, whatever it is I know it will be wonderful and heartfelt.

She has released 3 different Official Video's, this one with drawings another in B&W like her "I put a spell on you" video and the last with a mix of home video's with her grandfather. The home movie one is my favorite.

What I love in spending time with you, Josh, is the intimacy that you create for us to enjoy in each and everyone one of your reactions. In that intimacy lie your calming tone of voice, your sincere and acute observations, your controlled emotional response, your love for high quality music, your choice of artists to react to and your awesome knowledge of vocal art. In what I would label as professional reactors in this kind of video reaction activity on YT, I count you as one of the happy few. I always expect the best out of your "performances" and you always meet the challenge and never disappoint. By following you diligently in your both Dimash and Angelina's journeys, I learn little by little each time how to appreciate to its fullest the multidimensional secret of the joy of vocal music and of its dazzling miracles in my life.

Wow. Thank you so much, Jacques. Your kind endorsement means a lot to me. I really do try to bring my very best to each reaction and so it takes more time than your average YT reactor to publish each one but time is one of our most valuable assets and I want to be sure to make the most of all of yours. I am trying to improve all the time in that area by learning more to bring to the table, using more succinct words and thinking through each statement carefully. Also trying to really connect with the artists at a deeper level to bring something other reactors may not. So, thanks again for your kind words and God bless you, my friend. And always feel free to comment as to how I can improve my content. :-)

@@SingerDadReacts Thanks to your wise initiative, Josh, and unique among your peers, I might add, to read initially with us the lyrics in most of your video reactions, we can enjoy fully the performances of the singers, words carrying as much creative emotional charge, if not more, as musical notes. When you will decide to react to Angelina Jordan's second classic, her amazing cover of James Brown's This Is A Man's World at age 12 !!!!, you will have the distinctive opportunity to underline a major dimension of her genius usually unnoticed: her artistic, poetic and musical use of transformative phonetics to give to songs, like that one, especially, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (in her mimicking of the sound of the owell in the woods), their true color. I already cherish in my mind the day when I will realize that you finally granted my request. Together with Angelina's diverse armies of Angels, you will be profundly touched by her precocious genius unmatched within the whole group of known vocalists. Will you then explain to us how, in your view, a child, not even a teen yet, can venture. like she did at barely 9 years old with her I Put A Spell On You, with such a fearless, clever, magical and splendid panache in the realm of innovative creative vocal art?

Amazingly, now is only 10 months or so after Bohemian Rhapsody. She had grown a lot. I understand she wrote this song in her journal right after her grandfather died. No doubt she had help in the process of getting it to this point .. oh .. and her grandmother, who is extremely creative and was the jazz influence in Angelina's life, is who did the art for the video, with Angelina saying what she wanted .. and, I believe, the "style" of the art came from some little drawings Angelina did in her journal. I very much appreciate you and your reaction and especially your sensitivity in speaking about her and this song in particular. Blessings to you.

I watched your reaction and felt I needed time to collect my thoughts before commenting on it to you so I have returned. Your reaction was just terrific. You touched on and explained how all of the elements of this performance worked perfectly together to result in final product that you described as a masterpiece. The lyrics, the melody, the simplicity of the instrumentation, the video and of course Angelina"s vocalization and interpretation combined to produce something truly mesmerizing and unforgettable. Thanks so much for describing the interaction of all these parts so well. Looking forward to seeing more of your Angelina reactions as you move through her vast and wonderful library of work. And to think she is only 14........

Thank you for that wonderful reaction.Angelina's masterpiece as you rightfully called it has brought the very best in empathy from reactors and fans alike. She has said that she wants to use music to spread love to the world as her primary vision goal. This perhaps is key to the mystery of how she reaches inside of listeners so consistantly.

Thank you Josh for a heartfelt reaction. I actually felt I could see the color of your face changing as the emotions hit you right in the beginning of the song. I love your quiet reactions, which are somehow very soothing. And much respect to you for always reading the lyrics out loud beforehand. I love this animation which Angelina and her grandmother did. But also check out the version of her sitting in her room thinking back to her childhood. Her uncle plays the role of her grandfather and her sister the role of Angelina in the flashbacks. It's very beautiful. Also the shoes and the coat. Please watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnKUkHaLlrJoaKs

Wonderful heartfelt reaction....Of course you know the little girl climbing latter is Angelina age 7 and 8. Angelina and Grandma did the art work with Angelina hand writing the words for the book. Angelina wrote song and the melody, as said by Angelina herself. She also had tears thru out the recording. Oh yes, she puts her whole heart and soul into every performance. : )

All the drawings and writing in the video were painted by the animator, David Kitson. He said they were inspired and based on Mery and Angelina's artwork in her book. Here he is drawing the ladder and others things in the video: instagram.com/p/CHS6Vb6ISiS/?igshid=18yhthtpxe4kl Angelina had a wonderful team of composers/lyricists helping her polish and fine tune her lyrics. Here are the writing credits: Composer Lyricist: Angelina Jordan Astar Composer Lyricist: Tor Erik Hermansen Composer Lyricist: Mikkel Storleer Eriksen Composer Lyricist: Sophie Ann Elton

Sweet reaction... I recommend that you watch Angelina's "Live in Studio video of Million Miles". IMHO the lyrics make this a classic for anyone who has lost someone. The illustrations are predominately by her grandma (Mery), who was an art and poetry prodigy in her native Iran. As you watch many Angelina cover videos filmed in her house, Mery's paintings are hanging on the walls.
