I am Manisha Srivastava, Bhojpuri folk singer, Sasaram native, but presently living in Patna. I have been working continuously in the field of Bhojpuri folk music for the last 18 years. My singing training started at home in which my grandfather played a vital role. I have done my graduation in music from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Prayagraj University. In my music career, I have worked to cherish Bhojpuri folk songs and doing it passionately. Our youth are forgetting the folk music, which needed to be cherished. I am presenting such songs while embellishing them by giving vocals on the instrument. In Bhojpuri folk music, we have included -“Batohiya, Videsiya, Poorvi, Barhamasa, Chaita, Chaiti, Holi, Kajri, Sohar, Jhumar, Pachara, Jantasari, Dhobia Geet, Jatiya Geet, Shringar Geet, Marriage Song, Sanskar Geet” compiled in the form of an album, Which people really love. So far, I have performed cultural programs in many prestigious institutions. Be it literary or political or any other kind of stage. We have tried to give height and respect to Bhojpuri folk everywhere. So far, I have received hundreds of honors from various forums, mainly including "Bhikhari Thakur Samman", who is said to be the Shakespeare of Bhojpuri, "Mahender Misir Samman", the father of Eastern, etc. I have made my presence on TV channels due to my unique presentation of Bhojpuri traditional folk songs. Which includes DD Bihar, ABP News, Mahua Channel, Big Ganga, Zee Bihar Jharkhand, News 18 etc. Apart from this, I have judged many local level music reality shows. While singing Bhojpuri folk songs, I felt the need to find the essence and ideology of “Mahatma Gandhi” in Bhojpuri state and Bhojpuri folk. when he came to Bihar for the freedom movement, where did he go to and how did he connect with people. Meanwhile, a program was organised by former Rajya Sabha MP Mr. RK Sinha regarding Gandhi Yatra in different districts of Bihar. The "Gandhi Ke Ram Rajya - Modi Ke Suraaj" Gandhi Sankalp Yatra, ran from 2 October 2019 to 30 January 2020, started from Bhitiharwa. In this journey, I performed Gandhi songs all over Bihar with pride. Including songs which were very popular during the “Champaran Satyagraha” to bring public awareness in small villages and towns by singing songs on drug de-addiction, cleanliness campaign including “Charkhawa Chalu Rahe”, “Saiyan Boas Na Kapas Hum Chalaib Charkha”, etc. I gave cultural performances on all the subjects on which Gandhi had emphasized. visited places like Bettiah Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Ballia, Buxar, etc. In the meanwhile we realised that Gandhiji was there in each and everything. The Bhojpuri region of Bihar has played a prominent role in preparing them psychologically and financially for the freedom movement. Bhojpuri folk songs were used a lot to create enthusiasm and zeal among the people against the British. Every gathering then, used to start with Bhojpuri folk songs. The popular Bhojpuri folk songs of that time included the spinning wheel, which is popular among the people even today. While looking for Gandhian in the public, I realised that the things that Gandhi had emphasized in the past, the respected Prime Minister of our country, Mr. Narendra Modi, is working on the same subject at present. Bapu worked hard to increase Khadi Village Industries, Launched drug de-addiction campaign. Campaigned for clean India and at present our Prime Minister is also compulsively working on these subjects. I used to sing in Gandhi Sankalp Yatra "Gandhi ji ka Rahal Khadi Ke Sapna, Khadi Apnaal Maan Modi ji Ke Kehna", “Gandhi ke Ram Raj-Modi ke suraaj,ihe chahe sakal samaaj”. Therefore, for my contribution in the traditional and modern folklore style of Bhojpuri folk songs and on the basis of Gandhi's discovery in Bhojpuri folk I am submitting an application to the government for the “Padma Shri award”. I am enclosing the picture of some important work done by me with this application. I hope that in view of my unique work and dedication for Bhojpuri folk and Gandhi's discovery in folk songs, my application will be accepted with this worthy value.
