While standing, go the corner of where two walls meet/the apex line... put your nose as close to the apex and try singing... you will hear every nuance/inflection/resonance in your voice and will instantly sing better. This works especially well with common drywall walls. A great place to practice!

I am a vocal coach and I have heard the mixed voice placement described like this. I will say though I think for the tenor and bass voices the slide up is easier. Those voices are strong in the lower registers and soprano/alto voices are stronger in the upper. But this is brilliant. 👏👏

Transitioning from high to low is easiest for me (no voice break). For reference, I’m an alto, and I sing most comfortably between E3 and E4. My natural speaking voice is D3/E3. When singing low to high I experience the most breakage when transitioning from A4 to B4.

Do you have a lot of air coming through on those notes? You may not be getting enough cord closure. Try adding a “nah” sound to your words to get the cord closure.

Going from lower to higher is way easier for me. I can definitely hear the transition, but my voice doesn't crack like when I go from high to low. It really helped when I opened my mouth on the inside to make the transition smooth going from lower to higher. I did it! But I absolutely can't go down without a break. The only improvement is my voice doesn't crack. :P

Please don't take this personally. I'm also working on my Mix Voice, and some KZbin videos here, including yours, have one thing in common. You explain everything wonderfully, but what about the breath support? I don't see anything there. Without that, you end up very quickly in the head voice.

High to low is easier for me, my speaking voice has a lot of ping where my head voice naturally has none, so the change is easier going into the resonance because i gradually lose it going up. This highlighted a long standing issue for me and confirmed I'm on fhe right track with focusing on the CT muscles at the moment and working out the balance from their side.

I have like a 3 note range in chest voice. Not 3 octaves (yeah right). No, literally 3 half steps. Alright maybe like 7 max. A#3 is highest. Then it breaks and jumps an entire 5th to D#4. Oh well, it only skipped all the notes in the middle of the piano, nobody ever needs those. Conclusion: Unmixable. Unusable really. Some people just shouldn't sing. Glad I watched this.

Depends which time I try and the exact sound I try with as to which direction the break feels more 'awkward', like there's a 'lump' to get over. Sometimes up, sometimes down. I don't know until I get there how awkward it's going to be either, like I can't feel what's happening until it goes wrong. The stronger the resonance, the worse it is when it goes wrong if anything, like I'm locking myself into chest or head voice, not into resonance. Weird.

Voice Teacher here. This is a good “mix basics” video. That being said, I wish you would touch on the lateral cricoarytenoid muscle and producing a mix by stretching the vocal folds and tilting the larynx, without having to focus too much on resonance. I have the resonant mix mastered pretty well I feel. Regarding the resonance focused mix, outside of pop and classical though it’s usage is limited I feel. It would be interesting to have you touch on the modal mix and vowel modifications needed to bring the modal mix up.

That's not all there is to it though, keep in mind. I think in order to do this right you HAVE to push from your stomach and your throat needs to be frickin loose. You'll want to use your throat to try to manipulate it to make it mix, but you MUST resist. I think you have to lean into the air.

I find it much easier to from low to high. I used to crack going both directions but now I can control low to high but still not high to low. Not trying to learn to sing, I'm actually trying to learn how to voice act multiple characters. I have to play both a deep voiced male British lucifer character and a sweet high pitched voiced American female character and they are talking to each other... I'm finding it very hard and thought this video might help.

Singing in the mask is bad. Squillo, or ping comes only from the chest voice, the thyroarytenoid muscles. Singing in the mask only makes one squeeze, raise larynx, constrict space, nasal. Pharyngeal resonance in the back of the mouth under the uvula is the most important resonator by far. Singing in the mask technique has destroyed singing today. The voice is made in the throat and amplified almost entirely in the back of the mouth. Most people have a very weak chest voice, a singer must really develop those TA muscles, create space, and release the sound, like blowing through the open throat with only the vocal chords to impede the air. This gives a huge clear sound, especially while the larynx is also down.
@titaniascarletknight
@titaniascarletknight Жыл бұрын
People literally talk in chest voice, it's not weak. Pushing the chest voice higher than it is meant to go will cause tension and squeeze on the voice as well as raise the larynx. Developing the head voice, which is naturally weaker and under utilised in speech and working on the ping or resonance which comes not from the vocal folds but the sphincter at the top of trachea, will help to get the TA and CT to work together. Certain accents also have more ping than others, so some singers will naturally have more and don't need to add extra in their chest voice. Trying to add extra resonance to the area of the voice where it's already abundant leads to squeezing and raising the larynx. Everything in the vocal tract can be independently controlled, and it all serves a natural purpose.
@RememberGodHolyBible
@RememberGodHolyBible Жыл бұрын
@@titaniascarletknight Ping or squillante does not come from the sphincter at the top of the trachea. That is called the valsalva maneuver and it is what you are pushing aginst when you are "pushing" your voice. It is bad. The noise that may come from this constriction you speak of at the top of the trachea leads to small dull singing that we see across the board today. Yes people usually talk in chest voice, but in order to bring the squillo that comes from chest, which is the only thing that is squillo, you must engage the TA muscles which contract to shorten the chords. Think of Patrick Star from sponge Bob, Larynx is down but not enough firing of the TA muscles, so you get that hollow muffled sound. If you lower your larynx, and then fire the TA muscles the squillo is immedately there. This is what all the great singers have done in time past. Chest voice (TA) must be strong and built in stregnth because it must fight against the CT muscles that are trying to lengthen the cords. Proper head voice has TA participation but it is dominated by CT particpation. Balanced chest voice has CT but is TA dominant. Engaging the TA as you go up and keeping it FULLY ENGAGED without lessening it AT ALL, but bring in more CT allows you to maintain chest voice to the top of your range as a male. Yes after C5 or D5 around there, the chest voice may have to become head voice to continue to ascend in pitch, it is physical and has limits. But for males one should maintain balanced chest voice through the whole range (except when singing softer dynamics, then head voice is required to soften without closing the throat). The instruction you are giving in your above comment is why basically all singers today has micro voices that cannot be heard well without a microphone in a large venue. Whereas in the past the great singers, even the lightest of voices, male or female, that were trained in the old school of singing with balancing the two registers, chest and falsetto, could be heard clearly above orchestras without a microphone, even in open air venues. That is impossible today for modern singers, because they do not know what they are talking about, and how to achieve maximum efficiency in vocal production. The "This is opera! ARCHIVE" channel explains more in detail, with clear examples of demonstration of all these things. Also Jeremiah Silver's blog is worth it to read through, invaluable info on singing. The man is a heretick when it comes to sound doctrine of the Bible, but technically, with vocal production, he knows what he is talking about. www.thesilversingingmethod.com/2009/

Hi Rachel, open vowels are tricky. If I’m understanding your question correctly I recommend you lean towards the middle of the roof of your mouth. A good way to practice getting your open vowels less “spread out” and more focused is to produce a closed vowel and then glide over to an open vowel while focusing on the same resonant placement, e.g. oo to ah. Hope it helps 😊

Hi Jymmy, thanks for sharing 😊 I definitely understand that the theory is much simpler than actually doing it. I had so much to say about this topic that I could not fit all of it into the video (otherwise it would have been too long). one thing that might help with bridging is to make sure that your larynx (voice box) does not move a lot with your pitch. It allows the vocal folds to stretch and contract more freely. I’ve made a video about larynx control that I suggest you check out. Let me know how it goes. Hope it helps😊

It need the flow of the air and also the the muscle not being too tention from throats. And the most important things the keep everything into balance. I found out it worked. But Not everytime. I do the scale slowly to find out the blending area (bridge). But I guess I did the mixed voice but. Sometimes it sounds like I am applying Pressure to push the larynx downward. But I can't really maintain the larynx. I really thanks for your reply.
