Really you are right. This college engineering faculty has something special, gives an open environment , liberty and opportunity to express thought. Student of this university has a self confidence and pride, this might be the reason for highest percentage of IIT/IISER/IISC professors/ researchers globally are from this college. Last but not the least 50 to 60% students are from poor and under privileged background

today i am a phd student at IISc (I too left newer IITs and NIT Trichy ECE for JU CSE). Ask any professor here - where they get their best students from. Most will unanimously say JU. Yes there are a lot of logistic issues - no denying it. It is the 4th best Uni in India and always within top 10 engineering institutes. Yet due to political tension between state and central govt, it did not get the 1000cr funds as an institute of eminence. Besides it has the most open minded students and gives you a flavour of democracy everyday - not talking about some 1-2 spoilt brats who enjoy bullying juniors.

DTU and Anna University is having better attractive Infrastructure, Curriculum, better course, Faculty with Phd which also comes under State Govt. There is also better Startup cultures in these colleges. I don't think Jadavpur is no where near to IISc, IIT, NIT, IIIT. Faculty in these colleges are having Foreign Degrees and Foreign Phd. World Class Curriculum, Laboratories and Research facilities, better Startup cultures, Way better funding, Way better Industry tie ups for R&D and in long run they have proven to do well in their core competency around the world. Several international patents and invention are registered by these colleges. Neither I heard any famous Author from Jadavpur University in Engineering field. Recently Jadavpur University is denied Institute of Eminance status as Mamta Banerjee denied further funding to upgrade College Infrastructure. So it's not worth to join this College at the cost of IIT or NIT. Only thing is it is Cheap to study here. But Cheap educations comes at price of Quality education and Quality Infrastructure. The students will be less employable in the future.

Mera dost JU cse chor ke iit kgp mechanical chala gaya tha and to add salt to the wound he told another one of my friend that who also got ju cse that tui ganja kheye ju te pore thak , ami chollam iit kgp ……..It means that you’re are gonna smoke weed and get high while i am gonna make a bright future for myself in iit kgp . And JU btech is any day better than iit bhu, dhanbad , indore etc etc…. For masters its an another story as I myself left JU to study in iit dhanbad . Masters of JU is extremely weak especially for mechanical engineering.

Thanks for covering JU. I happen to be an alumni of this institute from the Science Faculty. I wish you would have covered a bit more of the Faculty of Science departments - Geology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics - they are one of the best in the country and the research output from here is a major contributor in making JU the 4th best university in India (according to the NIRF). The Geology Department for instance has greater placement than many IITs.

There are extremely poor students who study here. The alumni network donates. It is a different culture here. If you have that intelligence, JU welcomes you. For honors , they take an exam conducted by the college. The faculties set q paper. 60 percent marks is the requirement for boards and you take the exam and voila !

There may be some misconception regarding the 40 % placement in ETCE which the UG4 dada just mentioned, actually the important point to note is that placement has just started and it will go on till June, so by the end of the process, the placement %age will be almost 100%.

you are wrong. Kolkata and West Bengal are most welcoming and no discrimination. Every non Bengali whom spends time here , grows up here has fond memories and there are many articles by famous people including South Indians about this. There is first of all no caste discrimination. We are peaceful and welcoming but it is now changing seeing how hateful and protective other cultures are.
