This has literally changed my life... I've been stuck at G being my highest chest voice note for about 10 years!! Using this technique I effortlessly got to B and even C although it needs a bit of practice to get sounding good. Thanks!

I've been following your suggestions along with mark Baxters,Ken tamplin and dr. Dan. Been working on mixing my voice for the past six months (been practicing singing seriously for 2 years and aimlessly been singing for the past 7 years) and just the past few weeks I began noticing that I've bridged the GAP y'all been talking about. Wow! It is indeed possible but takes fuck loads of time. I just graduated from Uni and started work. I'm not sure where I should go from here. I mean I'm not sure if I should be a full time Musician or not. Besides singing, I can play piano and guitar. I've written a couple of songs and I listen to tonnes of music from different genres. Currently my range is from E2 to C5(full) to G(5) falsetto. It used to be G2 to E4.Now I'm working on mixing C5 onwards and enter the whistle register by the end of this year. Also, working towards a strong vibrato,vocal riffs and runs and really strong sustained notes upward B4. I also would like to extend my range downwards to hopefully C2 if that's at all possible. I just started working a sales job so I'm gonna see how much I can earn(the prospects seem good) and set aside a budget to have your classes if you offer them over Skype. I'm extremely excited about this breakthrough and can't wait to have some real one on one professional training!

This was absolutely revolutionary for me. I was wondering why do I strain so much around A4 Turns out I didn't thin as much as I needed! Even now, I can feel the tension whenever I pull too much weight up Now I can absolutely hit those notes with way less strain, though I still have to get a feel for the thinness. I still have to work towards Ab4 B4 and C5 I have to practice this to thin out even more But for once I actually experience what the teacher is telling me, and I can actually see myself being able to sing higher!! Not a single person on KZbin could get me such a deep understanding, and nearly INSTANT results in terms of knowing why I strain I absolutely LOVE your approach!

Hi, i’m struggling as whenever i try to go up my register my larynx always seems to follow. Iv been trying for ages to find exercises that will help prevent this but i’m still getting the same results. It even happens in my chest voice. I get a feeling around my Larynx whenever i finish and it feels very worn out. This prevents me from going up higher, some notes that i can reach don’t sound right and eventually i just can’t go any higher as i choke. I don’t feel its a problem with my breathing as i think i have good support (then again i could be wrong) i’m running out of ideas and i’m constantly looking for help or advice but everything i see or try just doesn’t seem to help. It would be good if i could send a video to you to see what you think may be the problem, i don’t know if you do that sort of thing but i think it could help me out massively. Thankyou🙂

Do u have any idea regarding muscle tension dysphonia? It happens when a singer usually pulls the chest voice much too higher to reach the top notes. Its really a pathetic ailment. I am a baritone singer. Used to sing so much once but now for three long years cant connect my vocal cords correctly as it shakes and trembles and then no sound with only air pass around f f# note. Tension all around the neck and back. Been to a plethora of therapists but of no good use as there is no physical damage. If you think any exercise can do anything?? Thanks man for such awesome lessons.

Hi +Ayan Saha sorry to hear about your frustrations. Yes I've dealt with singers who have had similar issues to you. In fact I went through a time myself where I had similar vocal issues to what you describe. The key is not about roaming youtube for exercises because the problem is HOW you are using your voice. Once you work out HOW to utilize your voice, you can do all of the exercises you used to do because the way you do them will be different. I can tell you that you will not find the information you seek anywhere on the internet because almost no one knows it as you've already discovered by trying to work with therapists etc. You need 1 on 1 lesssons with me over Skype, there's no way around it. you will need to learn how to completely remodel your voice from scratch. I will show you. www.grow-the-voice.com/singing-voice-lessons.html

Hi, Phil! Thank you for your great singing lessons! And I have a question =) Could you please make an observing video on Matt Bellamy's from Muse vocal technique? @philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 9 жыл бұрын
Hi BMSTUAlex there isn't really any "special technique" that each singer uses. There's no "matt belamy technique". He's just singing. Think about it. Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't use the "Arnold Schwarzenegger technique" he just lifts weights. Ronnie Coleman doesn't use the "Ronnie Coleman technique" he just lifts weights. What they try to do is lift weights as correctly as possible. Using the best movements with the right rep scheme etc. There is only ONE singing technique there's no such thing as different singing techniques. All the different names and methods are just brands that are trying to strive towards GOOD SINGING TECHNIQUE. There is BAD singing technique and GOOD singing technique. just as there is a best way to lift weights there is a best way to sing. If you want to know whether you are approaching the song correctly, record yourself and email it to my vocal assessment at Grow-The-Voice.com. simply sign up to the mailing list and you will be able to send me a recording.

This is a good exercise to warm up to connection, but i have a problem - i succeed in these exercices and can do sirens up and down without breaking, but when i try to place the music of songs into these exact sounds (sounds that i can siren with) i break again. its like i do Ah-ah-ah like you do without any problem, but if i try and do a music from a song that goes over these notes - i break. i dont get it :\
@davidphilipsmusic
@davidphilipsmusic 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe try breaking the songs you want to sing in to small parts. So find a certain part that is difficult and turn it in to an exercise in itself, using this video as a base. I always find breaking things down in to very tiny pieces helps when I'm trying to learn them or deal with a problem area. I find it with guitar students sometimes too.. they will tell me they have trouble with a certain phrase but then run through the whole piece to practice that one problem area rather than isolating the problem and using it as an exercise. Not sure if that'll help.

@philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 8 жыл бұрын
Hey +Francisco Alcoba you have to learn how to delay the vocal break by stretching the chest register. you wanna get your f4 break pushed up all the way to the A4 or even C5. This has to be done carefully and properly without strain. get your hands on my singing program, this video is one little piece of the puzzle. There is a whole process that needs to be learned in order to learn how to sing strongly and powerfully. You won't get the answer in a little tip.

Quick question unrelated to the video. When some male rock singers sing notes in the lower parts of their range, what is it that causes them to sound like they're 'reaching' to hit the lower notes when the note itself isn't actually that low. M Shadows is a good example of what I mean. Something to do with keeping the same coordination and compression as the mid range? Thanks
@philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 7 жыл бұрын
most people hold larynx tension in their speaking voice and it affects their singing - so when they go to sing low they have this restriction that causes tension in the low range. Also remember, what might not be low for you may be low for someone else!

interesting video,I have seen another guy doing this exercise but with the tongue all the way out :) , this staccato sound apparently strengthens the pharyngeal resonance which helps with the mixed voice,but I have a question,is this exercise will help with belting as well? cause I noticed I was able to sing the chorus and intro of the song LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN by bruno mars,now as a beginner its quite hard for me,and I was straining a little but it didn't really hurt that much like it used to. now back to my question , if I wanna do this exercise for belting do i just do the staccato sound louder like belting to strengthen my belting muscles?
@philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 8 жыл бұрын
For belting you need to move from staccato to legato (smooth connected lines) and work on bringing more weight into the sound with more of an UGH undertone to the sound. Check this video out for more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4DVdaF-j6qGe9E

Hi Phil, It sounds like with the exercise you will be glottal attacking? Is this the case?
@philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on where the singer is at in terms of what issues they need to overcome but ideally you will want to avoid the glottal attack and try to fade in smoothly so the throat doesn't close up on the first note.

Hey Phil, first of all I got the same guitar. :) When starting to connect and sing in your full voice, does it still feel like chest or more like supported falsetto? I'm not shure if I should do the excercise with a lighter (still bright and not breathy) sound or with a stronger sound (feeling like chest voice) that is a little tighter and harder to sustain? I can apply the lighter one to songs it sounds connected (not airy) but still wimpy and not really full. Do you have any advices of what I'm doing wrong?
@philmoufarrege

@@philmoufarrege I feel strong resonance in the back of the throat, is that supposed to be where the sound is placed? Or is this the reason I'm getting a sore throat?
@philmoufarrege
@philmoufarrege 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that cannot be answered without me hearing you. The sensation of where you feel resonance doesn't really mean much because you will feel whatever you are not used to feeling. For example, if you are used to singing very nasally then when you sing correctly you will feel LESS resonance in the face. If you are used to singing weak and airy then you will feel MORE resonance in the face when you start singing correctly. So two people will feel completely different sensations based on what they were used to doing BEFORE they changed their technique. The way I tell if you are doing it right is by hearing you do it. I can hear if it's right. Relying on your own individual description of it doesn't offer me any useful information to determine if it is right, except for the fact you said you're getting a sore throat which is a red flag that something is going wrong. It could be many different things and I can't tell you which one without hearing you.

Hi Stefan, it's very hard for me to know without hearing you unfortunately. It could be that the exercise is warming up your voice nicely. It could also be that you may be doing the exercise wrong and irritating the voice in which case the voice may become deeper and have more vocal fry or crackliness to it. These are just guesses though. I would need to hear you.

it is a very very light connection, so I guess you could say it technically is a mix, but it is not stable enough for you to use this in actual songs and you won't be able to make it more stable by just continuining the way you are training. You need to learn how to sing bigger into your chest voice and stretch it through that connection so that your voice thins out later.
