Whistle voice can go much higher. Whistle voice is very breathy.

This depends on how it is handled. Whistle voice can be very sharp and piercing, strong like a flageolet but much more relaxed and calm in the throat

Thanks for the video. Would love to hear you speak more on this topic, especially on how to strengthen M3. I can only do it quietly (it's also shaky). I'm trying to build consistency and fullness, but I'm struggling. If I keep working on a clean head voice, do you think it will help with making flageolet stronger? Or is there a better way?

I was so wrong about flageolet as not being a swallow position, that I actually started having breathing issues as a result of trying to carry the airy falsetto too low in range. It made me choke on liquids and some foods. I believe that is because falsetto does not bring the front of the vocal folds together, only the back. Flageolet only brings the front of the vocal folds together, guarding the trachea. So, it's just reason that when you only train the back of the vocal folds to come together, your interfering with the swallowing mechanism, as well as the breathing mechanism. Is unbelievable that some voice teachers still think this is the way to go. That line of training fights our natural physiology and makes no logical sense. So, another thing some people do is force the flageolet louder. That causes splitting of tone, which shows up as creaking. Doing it very quietly will get rid of that creaking. I've learned a lot in the past few years and am singing better and more consistently, even shouting up to A4 at times. Thanks for getting me to question what previous teachers have taught, and also for the valuable discussion about flageolet back in 2018. You are a vocal BEAST!

Vocals are so tricky and moldable you can probably extend your vocals by exercising it. There are plenty of videos of vocal extensions for males. It might take you a while because you may need to train your nasal and head voice. But it is possible. And most importantly do not say I cannot do it say I can probably do it. When you say I cannot do it you produce a mental blockage and because the mind and the vocals are connected you are already telling it no.

Range maybe a couple steps, but a baritone only needs the high end resonance. Nothing else is written as far as range needed. Only a couple songs go above an A. But also I am old so its already amazing that I have 4 octaves and nothing is written at more than 3 octaves. But thanks for the input and of course correct about 'I can do it' attitude. Lucky I'm retired and can pay attention. @@MaraKapso

@@dougcard5241 Well, I wish you all the best, as a singer/songwriter try not to put limits on what I can do with my voice, if I really want it I will work on it. I hope that you achieve your goal. God bless.

I did what I think was flageolet today, for like 30 minutes...and I pushed A LOT, so I'm so afraid I damaged my vocal cords (but right now I can speak normally, I'm only tired, so I don't think I damaged them...BUT I'M SO SCARED 😂😂😂). Anyway, beautiful video ❤️

@H. Minh Lam you never want to push your flageolet, because that will make your voice creaky and you will not be able to get a clear tone. With flageolet, you want to do it quietly, only loud enough to make a whimpery sound, and you want it to be clear. It will be breathy at first, that's fine. The more you practice it, the clearer it will become, and the more you will find that it seems to control your full voice, as though it was a little string you tug on to raise your pitch like your throat was a marionette. Because the flageolet consists of only the mucosal layer of the true folds, pushing that isolated sound too loud can damage that layer. There is an example of a guy who did that on youtube, and he sounded like a train whistle. As long as you respect the volume limits that are possible with the flageolet, it will only strengthen your entire voice, instead of tear it down or make it heavy and clumsy. You can even use it to warm up before singing. Pushing it to a louder volume than it wants to go during that warm up will tire your voice out before you even have had a chance to sing, and you will find that you will be singing very flat as a result. For this reason, there are some who say that you do not have to warm up your voice before singing. I think you do, but you need to make the warm up gentle, so that it doesn't do the exact opposite of its purpose- to loosen up the voice so that it works better and can be more expressive with a decent amount of range.

@H. Minh Lam Whoops, didn't see that comment before I replied! You said it right, exactly. Pushing flageolet causes the splitting. It took a long time to realize that, partly because of a book that had a mistake that never got corrected.
