S. Smith's reaction is CLASSIC :) And I LOVE when the audience goes "OOOOoooooh" when they get the 4th square--everyone knew at that precise moment that Shelley had enough time to take him to the top!
@OddballExtreme13 жыл бұрын
Man, I love it at 1:08. Shelley jumps up and down while the John Oates lookalike stands there in shock for a few seconds, not realizing he seriously won that $100,000. It's just priceless!
@RicksTravelogue15 жыл бұрын
$100,000 was a lot of money back then. Still is today, but it's value has been dropped since the million-dollar game shows came around in the late 90's. It was serious and huge situation for the contestant. These types of situations still are huge and serious. We're talking life-changing for the potential winner. You still hear this asking for the audience to be quiet during the final spin and bonus rounds on Wheel of Fortune to this day.
@quincyhughes14 жыл бұрын
This was thrilling to watch, as someone else said here, but it was even more thrilling back when it first aired because this final lasted TWO WEEKS before someone could win the $100K. It was incredible stuff.

That was thrilling to watch! Very exciting! I was on the edge of my seat! Mr. Clark is Mr. Pyramid, no one else.

An amazing video. I, too, was wondering at first how "curved, wet wood" could have been a valid clue for the "Things That Are Warped" subject. I looked in the dictionary and "curved" doesn't seem to be a synonym for "warped" or vice versa. He won the $100,000 anyway. Congrats to the guy!
@rovert4013 жыл бұрын
@ProfMike789 They aren't synonyms. A curved hockey stick blade, for instance, isn't warped, since it was manufactured that way.
@GeekGameCulture14 жыл бұрын
@2themoon Actually, I think it would've been buzzed because of the prepositional phrase rule (you can't use them in the bonus round).
@BRBTheFireball18 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, Richard's PYL win was the very first PYL episode that aired on Game Show Network when they first acquired the rights 5 years ago. It's also interesting to note that Richard's wife (who can be seen toward the end of the clip) won $25,000 on "The New $25,000 Pyramid" a few years earlier. Richard and son Brian can be seen coming on stage to celebrate that win. So the entire Mahaffey family has won almost $150,000.
@DENo1MatchGameFan16 жыл бұрын
I also remember Richard Mahaffey being one of the first two contestants when "The $100,000 Pyramid" debuted in syndication in Sept. of 1985.
@PlayerWM8618 жыл бұрын
He was on the episode where Ann whammied on one spin and threw a fit. She was on the old '84 intros. $100,000 seems a lot harder to win nowadays no thanks to shows like Deal or No Deal, though. It seemed like in the '80s, the $100K was always up for grabs on Pyramid. Darn good times. :0)
@pjkrahn020218 жыл бұрын
The name of the 5th contestant was Denise Bumbliss. Im actually, going to try to find a way to post a profile on the site. I also have an old episode on tape of the 11th $100000 win from Tracy Trench. I would like to see this show come back. I personally did not like the Donny Osmond version, and if it does come back, it will have to be close to the original way. Same concept to qualify for the tournament.

I thought she had said "Earths wet wood" but I can be wrong; I just found this site yesterday (8/21/06) because I was looking for old pyramid clips. I use to watch reruns of pyramid alot. Shelly also helped a contestent win the 5th tournament after winning $5000 in a 21-21 tie. If I was in the tournament I would want her to be in the winners circle with me

Hello, I have read that the reason why the entire audience rushes out of their seats is that they wanted "camera time", or that they just wanted to congratulate the contestant in case his or her relatives could not make it in person. Whatever the reason, it never bothered me any; I just thought it was to make such a win more exciting than a $10,000 or $25,000 win.
@DENo1MatchGameFan16 жыл бұрын
Dick Clark was and always WILL be "Pyramid" as far as I'm concerned. The only emcee that came close was Bill Cullen, and sadly, I never watched much of his version of the show. It sure is sad that Dick can no longer host game shows again - he was one of the best!
@sdjimbob15 жыл бұрын
Well I doubt the judges had Word for DOS as their reference. However, Microsoft's MSN Encarta lists warped as a synonym of curved. I'm glad the guy won, but I still think there should have been a BUZZ!

To add, not only do I think curved is a synonym, but I think "curved wet wood" would have fit under the too discriptive rule. I'm not saying this to be mean, but IMO it would only be fair to the other contestants competing.

Man, Ms. Cluegiver should have gotten buzzed TWICED, once for her "Crazy Mind" which would be a synonym of "Warped" in that instance, and then for "Curly Wood", another synonym for "Warped". In later eps, the judges were very strict about this, in this one they were asleep :p
