Singkil is a Maranaw cultural dance, which put into action the legendary story of Princess Gandingan and her Prince suitor! This dance/story is already practiced by the Maranaws before Islam and the Islamic Faith was embraced by them! Thus, it is NOT correct to attribute Singkil to Islam!

Can I correct you that SIngkil is not a Muslim Dance. This is a Maranao Dance that existed even before the Muslim faith was introduced in Mindanao. Pls learn your facts. Thanks!!!

Prohibited or not, dancing, specifically the Singkil dance, ante-dated Islam. It had been part of the Maranaw culture before these people embraced the Islamic Faith!

It is related. However, Singkil was already a dance in the Southern Philippines even before the coming of the Arabs and the colonizers.

Mindanao today is Majority Christian. It is no longer majority muslim. Christian Settlers (Bisaya and Ilonggo) already outnumbered the Muslim (Moro) and Animist (Lumad) Native Populations of Mindanao. The muslims are only majority in bangsamoro region, a small region in western mindanao. Most of the central and eastern part of mindanao are now mostly christian and animist.
