Unless you're going for fish in Twisted Strand or Devil's Spine, you typically don't need mangrove or volcanic fishing capabilities. So I personally don't feel like the versatile rod is worth the space it takes up. I also got the deluxe edition, so I have the sign of ruin, which takes up a rod slot. My loadout is currently sinew spindle, encrusted talisman, sign of ruin and fathomless winch. I'll swap in the right equipment for mangrove or volcanic when I need it. But this is my late-game fishing loadout when I'm just messing around.

I spend a pretty equal time in those biomes so find it's easiest just to use that rod instead of switching them out constantly, but I see your point. Yeah I didn't get the DLC, or else I'd use the Sign of Ruin too. I'm tempted to do what you do and switch out the Versatile Rod for the Sinew Spindle when I'm aberration hunting.

That's a nice "all your needs are covered" setup. I do think it's a bit of a shame the boat slots don't allow for an "all aberrant gear" loadout, as the winch, rod, spindle, and talisman shapes don't allow for all 4 to be equipped at once. Since the shrine rods cover everything except for volcanic between them and double up on shallow it might've been alright, and it seems like it could've been a neat/ flavourful setup.

I'd have settled for just being able to carry ship components in slots beside their designated ones, at the cost of not being able to use them. If the bonus to aberants still applied, I'd definitely do that while filling out my encyclopedia. It could even add the possibility of switching out gear while out at sea, adding some interesting tactical options.

I like the Ultra Jet, just like my speed. Plus sign of ruin and the small fishing hook to finish out the slots.

Between the 2*2 trawl nets options, I did a deep dive and counted the fish that can be trawled for costal & volcanic vs shallow & mangrove. In the majority of regions, the costal/volcanic one is the better option, since there are more fish you can get from trawling for those categories. Of course, if you're in Twisted Strand for a few in-game days, you'll benefit more from the shallow/mangrove trawl. Kind of. You'll still catch the same number of fish. What changes is the types of fish. If you need fish specific to Twisted Strand, switch over, but if it's just for money, I haven't done enough research to decide what's best. But you'll get far more types of fish globally with the costal/volcanic one. Figured this might be useful.

I’m a big fan of the total jet drive setup. Lets you abuse the turbo once you get it. Let’s me get anywhere insanely quick with no risk of popping a larger engine and leaving me stranded.

The game is all about changing your layout depending on what you are going to do. As empty space is important. There are also fish that can only caught by a net.

bruh you didn't even cover how op crab pots are. these things made me get 10k to 30k money or gold or whatever you want to call it every 10 days or less. its is a really good investment worth the effort of emptying them and repairing then placing them back (i have over 300k money / gold) also if you are reading this, do you know any good dredge or inscription type games ? don't get me wrong dredge is still very fun tho, worth every penny spent on it. also good video keep it up

Yeah that's one of the reasons I ditch the trawl net is because crab pots are hardcore worth it especially once you get upgraded ones. Check out Sunless Sea. It's not a fishing game, but is kind of similar with it's eeriness and upgrading your ship.

I use pretty much the same, but I go for all jet engines since at those speeds you really don't need to be going any faster than you already are, and the added safety is too good not to have. I tend to forego a net or the talisman entirely in favor of the extra space. I find that the net takes up way too much space in the early game, and by late game you already have way better money making strategies. Not to mention the cost in research components, which are far better spent on more important things, like engines and rods. Also fishing speed becomes largely unimportant by late game. With good lights, you can stay up all night anyway, so by the time you get the talisman, it's no longer useful.

No its in the game. There are 3 map pieces around the Stellar Basin region that shows a location for a treasure chest.

I'm fond of using the unholy fishing equipment found on ominous shrines by ritually sacrificing fish. The only fish type you can't get with those is volcanic, meaning you can largely ignore the fishing rod section of the research trees until you need volcanic fish. Frees up a lot of research doots for other things. The net from the frozen DLC is excellent, too.

did this come out before the DLC? there is an aberrant net in the Ice area that is the most versatile in the game. Shallow, Costal, Oceanic, and Ice. you wont need Ice outside of the DLC area but the other 3 are everywhere.
