Excellent vidieo.for the first time i can clearly decern the difference.2a3 more organic.kt88 has element of hardness,edge. Well done. Music ex choice.

Just ordered a KT88 and listening for what I'm in for, yes I've made the right choice for now. But I feel a pair of singles will be on my christmas list. Love your panchance and leaving all the guess work to the viewer.

Great video. Great sound, 2a3 for me!! More balanced and open. Could listen for hours.. I had 300b push pull mono blocks as main power unit. Once I tested a 2a3 SET there was no way back.

KT88. I don't have golden ears, but what I noticed is a much more thin sound on the 2A3. 2A3 has better decay and delicate details (nicer reverb) I've built a 6B4G SE direct coupled amp and for the added complexity, it isn't any better than my cap-coupled SE el34 and way less power. Just can't justify it. Honestly, if I build another amp, it will be the humble 6BQ5 SE.

thanks for sharing 😊 yes 2A3 is a very balanced and not warm tube. so for tuby sound other tubes are more tuby ;)

Yes most people consider it more natural and refined. But the speakers need to have some SPL

PP KT88 gives more clarity. Some notes/harmonics were missing (suppressed?) from the violin in the Storm (Vivaldi) 10:04”. I recognized the notes because I kept hearing this piece everytime my son practiced to play that piece long time ago with his orchestra group (multi violin players).

first song sax on 300B sounds deeper and bigger, more comfortable. On female vocals low mids are warmer and wider on 300B, but more clear and prononced on KT88. On electronic KT88 have deeper and better shaped bottom end. Very difficult choice)) I would choose 300B SET as more pure and minimalistic design and leave loud and powerfull musik for transistors))

KT88. More grip on the upper bass and … soft on the voices at the same time. Strange I heard more distortion on the 2a3 a few times on the upper mid range (feminine voice).

KT88 soundstage better envelops the listener, more 360, and better separates each instrument. The 2A3's soundstage has noticeably less width and depth.

I use a elekit Tu 8900 that can be uses with 300 b 8W or 2A3 3,5W in sigle ended , it is relay nice , tube rolling with cassor Linlai we300b or PsVane 300b acme or Linlai E series 2a3 or cassor We2a3 or EH 2A3 from Electro Harmonics. It is like i have several. 2A3 are like you where there, 300b have a velvety sound. I also have Vtl mono that uses EL34, they are more powerfull but less airy , less detailled, even in triod mode. For critical listening i prefer 2A3s. I was rely surprise at the spl that I can expect with 2A3s. With moderate sensibility speakers (91 db).

the single ended doesn't seem to have the strength that the push pull does...the push pull drives your speakers a little better...would love it if you had some James Taylor music playing...this isn't music I listen to so it's even harder to compare

I agree and since I like a bit more power than the 2a3 can deliver, I'd go for a PushPull amp here ;)

2A3 amplifier is only 4wt per channel? Isn' it too less for average speakers? Does it work only with some models of widerange speakers (not even any model)?
@justins.48394 ай бұрын

@VirtualHiFi9 ай бұрын
The difference is definitely minor, so you are partially right ;) with good set of headphones you will hear the difference for sure ;)

Maybe you have forgotten to compare a SE triode amplifier with a P-P triode amplifier. Since I love triodes and not pentodes this would have been a good chance to compare triode amplifier only. With the pentodes of course we get more distortion. So I dismissed them many years ago

Tried push pull amps are a very rare thing. Do you know any good popular amp that you recommend I'll try to get one for tests ;)
@paolo6033310 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I don't know any triodes P-P amplifier in the mainstream (maybe the VAC built some of them). I own a pair of DIY triodes P-P amplifiers with 212C tubes since I drive a couple of Sound Lab speakers and I am very happy with them
