Same for me, I have experience flying, but not building. I’m making a twin motor plane with a 70 inch wing span. Almost finished with the wing.

Nice bench set up, might also mention calibrating the escs all together.... (In something like a twin it's important to be getting relevant thrust from each side.)

I've been looking to make a multi-motor/esc project this has an excellent explanation of the process and options. I haven't been able to find any literature that wasn't 20 years old on this subject , or that didn't give erroneous cautions or methods that just didn't make sense. My local hobby shop actually looked at me funny when I mention what and how I'd like to go about my project, you know like dogs do when they aren't sure what's going on. That was my big sign to find information else where. If you ever do turn this into a document I would gladly store it away with all the other articles and books I have on these subjects

Well done you made a very useful and well done video! Something like this was needed on KZbin🔝🔝

Maybe also worth mentioning that the colors on the 3 motor wires are not relevant - in case people have motors/esc with single colored wires. And maybe also to check the current drawn by multiple motors - make sure the battery can handle it if you use 4/2 motors on a single battery

I'm going to use multicopter escs now. They are smaller and lighter but don't have a bec. For that application i use a multicopter pdb with integrated bec where i can solder on up to 8 escs depending on your board. Now i only have to solder on a single battery connector and that's it 😉

Nicely done , thank you. If you want to power two motors on one bigger battery, do you mean more volts or more amps ? Both ? Can you plug à 6s battery to 2 escs accepting 2-4 s lipo without burning them ?

Good simple description. If multi-motors are connected to separate battery packs, one weak battery pack may result in one ESC going into low voltage cutoff and one motor cutting out. Using a single higher capacity battery pack may have some advantages in smaller models.

Great video! quick and easy to undersand. Will you make another one with differential throttle in the future?

I prefer leaving the ESC plugs intact and remove the power ("+") contact(s) from the Y harness(es).
@DrewHordubay25 күн бұрын
Great video ! Very helpful. I see that you are using y harnesses to adapt one or two batteries as your power source(s). My question is: Does the use of the y harnesses between the batteries and the esc's require the use of an additional capacitor ? I am currently building an airplane that I would like to install a 6 inch plug in extension between the esc and the battery but don't knowif it's safe to do without adding a capacitor. Thank you for any help.
@TroyMcMillan11 күн бұрын
6in extension is definitely ok no capacitor needed.

Since you disconnect BEC Red wire from esc from 2nd & 3rd motor. Can one easily "Reconnect" this red wire back to each connection without need to soldering or needing to buy a replacement ESC?

Hi, thanks for the video, excellent. I'm busy building my twin electric model. The twin system necessitated (or so I thought) in extending the leads between the battery and the ESC. I'm told this is incorrect and I will be in trouble; the ESC won't work properly, I should installed a capacitor just before each ESC. The leads between the ESC and the motor should have been extended. My leads are ~600mm long. How did you solve this problem on your multiengine planes? Would appreciate a comment.

How do you wire it to control power to either side? As in a dual prop boat setup?

Question about a tank setup, lets say i hook up 2 engines on a RC tank platform. each side of the track powered by one engine. Would i then link both engines to throttle at the same time but have them for example like this (ENGINE 1 -> Channel 1 /// ENGINE 2 -> Channel 2. Setup the transmitter for throttle to power Channel 1 and 2 with the same speed. And when i want to steer and use the steering wheel i could then setup my transmitter to infact Slow down 1 of the engines depending on where you want to turn?
@TroyMcMillan12 күн бұрын
Ya you would want to set it up like you said 1 engine per channel. I don't have a transmitter with a steering wheel I only have airplane transmitters but I would set it up as a mix in the transmitter in my case with rudder and throttle but for your case with steering so not actually have servo hooked up for steering but just mix it so has you add steering it slows down eng 1 or eng 2 depending on direction of turn.

Is it possible to leave the power wire in the other esc? I'm thinking it be OK since it's in parallel, it would also act as a redundant if the other esc were to fail.

If you are using a dedicated receiver battery that is separate from the flight packs do you disconnect all 4 of the power wires from the ESC’s since the rx is being powered by its own battery?

I'm experimenting with a Stock twin prop 550kv set up. 2x 40A esc, 1x 6s lipo and the max Amp draw is 62A. I'm assuming this is over the 2x ESC combined so my ceiling is 80A. However if I'm going to use 2x lipos I'd certainly not use 2x 6s lipos. The power of the 6s is shared with the 2 motors. I feel if I was going to go dual lipo I'd use 2x 4s lipos. (These motors are 4s rated in 4s planes and 6s for 1 motor would surely be into the 90A+). My question is how do I work out the RPM of each motor in my set up? How much voltage do I know each motor is getting on 6s set up? My aim is to change out the motors to 750kv hoping my stock 40A escs are within operating limits. Cheers
