Just a short clip of sailing Proasis singlehanded. She tracks very well and requires little attention on the rudder.

Stable indeed. Which of the two boats lowered speed to keep abreast with the other one?
@proasisproject2 жыл бұрын
I think the speed of both was comparable in these light conditions. The difference is that the proa keeps on getting faster in more wind while the yacht rubs into the hull speed barrier

@@proasisproject I also noticed an electric trolling motor with prop at the trailing edge of a foil, right? On both beams?
@proasisproject11 ай бұрын
@@lucdekeysercorrect, that's a 500W electric engine. It's fed by our solar panels and 12V battery and gets us 2.5 h at 2.5 kn in a calm. Also very convenient for short handed harbor maneuvers! The motor came with a round shaft and didn't seem to be particular efficient so we made a fairing to reduce drag.

New sail looks so much better - seems like pointing angle is much improved?

Thanks! She points ok. We are using a larger leeboard now, that made a big difference

@@proasisproject what foil shape have you used?
@proasisproject2 жыл бұрын
@@lucdekeyser for the sail? None, the shape is created by catenary curves between the spars. There is a paper on our website explaining this in detail

@@proasisproject for the leeboard, pls

@@lucdekeyser nothing special, round to windward, flat to leeward. There is a paper on the web about the theoretical properties of proa foil sections. That was an important inspiration.

where are you helming from...I don't see you? (that good at self steering?)

I'm holding the camera. The boat is tracking forever if properly set up.
