When you're cooking, one hand might be dirty. The other hand is open to grinding up spices for your marinade. I found this item to be very useful and allows me to grind fresh salt and pepper on my food without using two hands. And now they have a rechargeable version which is a complete no brainer upgrade or if you are new to a electric grinder, I would get a rechargeable version to save on buying yourself the rechargeable batteries.
